  1. This doesn't affect the Peralta situation as much as the quality of any offer they'd get. He's inexpensive; if somebody blows them away before the season they would pull the trigger. If the season doesn't go well they now have two starting pitchers they could deal at the deadline (although if things don't go well it could very well be because these two are not effective or are hurt). In any case, this gives the Crew a chance to have a very good rotation.
  2. Yeah, I figure he's the guy. But if the Marlins don't protect Joe Mack I'd be sorely tempted to take him in the Rule 5 draft. Don't think there's much chance of that though. And I haven't ck'd today to see if he's been added to the 40 man.
  3. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bauers and Vaugn form a true platoon at first, which would mean that Jake will play more.
  4. His agent knows what his market is. He's going to get a multi-year deal, but it could be with the Brewers. If his health scares off teams because of the cost and the draft pick, the Brewers could sign him for 3 yrs $45mm. But there's a darn good chance that the Yankees will give him 3 yrs $60mm, so my guess is he's gone.
  5. I think their problem is somewhat the same as the Marlins. So many of the folks that live down there are relocated from elsewhere and aren't interested in the Rays. Perhaps the new stadium will help, but it hasn't seemed to help the Marlins.
  6. The chances are good that Durbin's elbow injury caused the swing speed decline. The chances that he is actually better at the plate next year outweigh the chances that he is worse. But I'd still love to see a signing to play third and move Durbin to second with Turang at short (assuming his arm is healthy enough and strong enough to play there). Ortiz as a late inning defensive replacement with the ability to move Durbin and Turang to second and third or just moving Turang to second and Durbin to the bench. Mona as the other infielder. Man, I'd love Bichette but he is out of the Brewers' price range.
  7. One thing that the pending lock-out might mean is that the Brewers could be very conservative in spending additional money or signing any contracts over one year. Of course, they wouldn't be the only team to think that way, so there could be some bargains available. I guess what I'm saying is that I have no idea what the team will do; at least now I accept that and am comfortable with it.
  8. All of the remaining teams are daunting in one way or another. Hit 'em where they ain't. And hit 'em hard.
  9. Batters are simply not going to swing until Mis starts getting ahead of hitters with strike one and/or strike two. He has to get ahead of hitters no matter when he pitches...start or relief.
  10. It also allows Durbin to get R & R for a while. He only has one speed, never taking an at bat or base running play off, and will probably run into a dugout or tarp given the opportunity. Protecting him from himself until September when things ramp up. And Caleb attracts baseballs while batting like a super magnet, and isn't interested in getting out of the way.
  11. No minor moves. Add a significant bullpen arm if you must, but find a team that is underperforming with a significant older player that can play third well, switch hit, hit with power, and steal bases, and is getting older but is controlled for three more years, and use some of those prospects piling up in the system. Unfortunately, a player like that will probably have a no-trade contract and his team won't really be interested in trading him. Sigh. But...go big or stand pat, more or less.
  12. The only addition I want is impossible...go big or go home. But Jose Ramirez has a total no-trade contract, probably wouldn't agree to come to Milwuakee, is a Cleveland icon, and the Guards are kinda still in it. But man oh man...
  13. Can you have an MLB contract that extends an extra year if a pitcher has TJ surgery? Would you want to?
  14. It'll come. He has smoked some balls very recently. Woulda been weirder to have the power come back before the swing adjustment. Also...if the finger is still bothering him he may not have the bat-to-ball skills he did pre-injury.
  15. Then again, Joey is a 1 war player so far. Willy Adames is a 2 war player. So keeping Willy wouldn't have made much sense. Those young shortstops can't get ready fast enough.
  16. Yeli's swing is much freer (for lack of a more scientific term) than pre-surgery. He's still adjusting it, but the results are definitely on the upswing. If he stays healthy and continues to fine-tune the swing, I'd expect 35 dingerz and 110 or so ribbies.
  17. 85 wins, miss play-offs. Sigh.
  18. Marshall, I will expect you to predict change in results from noticing batting stance changes from here on in. Of course, change isn't always positive...
  19. I dunno...it has to be way more consistent than umpires. For sure within a game; the strike zone can widen or tighten at a moments notice. And the calibrations will improve; the up/down is supposed to shift with each hitter. I mean...Angel Hernandez? C'mon.
