  1. I'm not sure I'm understanding this. 3 players will take part in a one day "election"? How do you have an election with 3 people? Will it really an election or will those guys just decide who is on the remainder of the two rosters? Is it an election or is it a selection? Pretty sure I read their will be a vote to get the top 3 for each position, then there is an election day between those 3, for all positions. Oohhhh! I was reading that as the top 3 vote getters over all have a one day "election" where they are the "voters" (basically they select the rest of the team). In regards to not being able to remove "pitchers that don't have it", I understand that walking a guy on 4 pitches does not automatically meant that a pitcher does not have it. My point is I don't like hampering the flexibility of a manager in a crucial situation. Lets say there is one guy on base late in a close game and the manager brings in a new pitcher. The new pitcher walks the next two batters and appears to be having some control issues. Now you have bases loaded. Most fans watching will probably be yelling at the TV or from their seats...get him out of there!! The manager does not always do this, but he should have the flexibility to do it. I don't care if these types of situations are rare, I don't like rule changes that take away that much flexibility from a manager, especially when the game may be on the line.
  2. I actually think this happens quite frequently The intent of the rule change seems to be to speed up the game. I think not allowing a mid-inning change at any time (even if the previous pitcher only faced 1 or 2 batters), would defeat the point of the rule.
  3. Well...if those intentional walks don't score, that is. This change does not sit well with me. A reliever comes in at the start of the game, walks the 1st batter on four pitches and clearly does not have it...now you are forced to leave him in there for 2 more batters?? That is too big of a change to the basic rules of the game in my opinion. If they allow for pitchers to be removed because of injury, I can see managers/trainers "pretending" they are seeing an injury related issue and removing wild pitchers for "precautionary" reasons.

  5. We'll have to see when the full details are released, but I would think that with the purpose being pace of play, then between-inning pitching changes would be exempt. I mean if they weren't, then the pitcher would go out there for a batter or two, only to likely have another mid-inning pitching change which kind of defeats the purpose. A better change, for some reason less reported on, is the shortening of commercial breaks I've seen the split screen model used more recently in golf. Not sure why all sports don't start incorporating that. In football do we really need a full screen for a kickoff that is a touch back 98% of the time? Also, I sure hope that between inning pitching changes are exempt.
  6. The other day I saw a Brewer's plate that read "WIN99". Not sure what it meant since they have never won 99 games (unless you count playoffs). GM163 or WIN96 would be nice plates to have.
  7. I believe you had to pay extra for the physical tickets. Maybe $35-50. I'm pretty sure I went with the ballpark app. I see. I must have missed that. May have to contact my ticket rep to see if I can still get them. It's not that I'm an old guy afraid of tech. I work on a computer all day, do all my banking and bill paying electronically, etc. However, I do have a fear (as illogical as it may be), that I'll get to the park and my phone will not function properly and/or I will not be able to access the ball park app for some reason. In addition, my wife has a work phone and is unable to install "unapproved" apps on her phone. So, I can't transfer tickets to her and I would have to show both tickets on my phone as we are going through. Not sure why I prefer not to do that, but rather not deal with that. I think it's more of me having a phobia of holding up the line behind me (same reason I hate the TSA check - doing pre-screen is the best money I ever spent).
  8. We pretty much do the batting practice every year and have received it. The best part is just being on the field. We also choose the Refillable Cup as our "Blue Reward". Got the season ticket package last week. No tickets? I didn't really look through it thoroughly (was out of town last week and just kind briefly looked at it when I got home). Is there some communication I missed that they are not doing physical tickets this year?
  9. When you get your season ticket package you will also get your membership id which will allow you into the games early. You also will get a Media Guide, information on the park and so on. Inside of there will be coupons to bring extra people in for early entry. My understanding regarding those coupons is that it's not for "extra people" it's just something you need to give them (along with showing your ID) in order to gain entrance. We have two seats in our plan and my son and I have taken advantage of several of the early entry games. I guess I never thought about it, but they have never asked for extra "proof" that I have two seats, they just let us both in with the ID. Biggest complaint I have about the early entry is the long line. We have arrived at the park 20-25 minutes before the early entry starts and have been pretty far back in line. Sometimes by the time we get in, it's only 10-15 minutes before general entry. I have suggested to our ticket rep that they check everyone in and use a "holding area" until the early entry time.
  10. Even if the ice is fairly thick, I find if you put some salt down on it and wait a few hours, it becomes easier to break up the ice and shovel it away.
  11. not sure what the problem is. Players are doing pretty well. Old players or flawed players aren't getting overpaid though. Still, some basic reforms should solve these issues. You're not sure what the problem is? Really? You have no clue? Everything is hunky dory? Look, I get that plebs have their opinions on baseball's labor situation, and that's fun and all, but their (our) opinions don't mean jack when it comes to how the player's union feels about the situation. All indications I've seen from players, the people that actually count in this situation, is they're pretty unhappy about the recent events in free agency. So yeah, there's a problem. Isn't there already a thread or two that covers this ad nauseum in the Major League forum? I think we should keep it there.
  12. Ok, makes sense now. I was thinking if that's not Ned Yost then Ned Yost should try to locate that guy and see if he possibly had a twin brother that was separated from him at birth.
  13. The first year we went there, I asked around about Hotels with indoor pools (which are hard to find in Phoenix) and a lot of the responses I received were "Why? Its Arizona. It will be hot and sunny". Not always true. First year we went I was worried my wife would never want to go again because of the cold and rainy weather that we experienced (not sure it got much warmer than 60 the entire week we were there). In Feb/March the temperature can be all over the place. We had some years where the temps stayed in the low 60's and others where every day seemed to be around 90. So don't just pack with the expectation that it will be pleasant and sunny. Check the forecast before you leave. Also, we always noticed that on cooler days, passing clouds while we were sitting out on the outfield berm made a huge difference. One minute it felt like 75 and then some clouds would pass over and it would feel like 60 (I'm guessing that is because of the low humidity).
  14. Why is Ned Yost in this Verizon commercial (about the 21 sec mark)?

  16. Pretty much the same for my wife and I (well, except neither of us scheduled any type of medical procedure for today). Valentines is also about half way in between our b-days, exchanging cards is about the extent of what we do. Had to laugh at the 11 day birthday thing as this is also a running joke for us. For several days before and after my birthday I will say "But it's my birthday" in response to any chore or topic that I may not be exactly thrilled about around the house.
  17. The sheer stupidity (& selfishness) of the parents literally boggled my mind numerous times & just when you think they couldn't possibly be any dumber they go & do something even more idiotic. The way they continued to communicate with him right up to almost the very end. The cheerfulness they still had in their voice after several years when they answered phone calls from him, "Hi B!", just odd. However, I do believe it was an era where basically people were more trusting of others in general. There was very much of a "Well, he/she would never do something like that" towards anyone who seemed "normal" or "nice". Even the FBI guy, how he talked about the fact that they didn't even know what the word "pedophile" meant. It wasn't a term they used. Parents kept less tabs on their kids than they do now and were a lot less fearful that someone would do something bad to them. They just thought if they lived in a "nice" neighborhood and their kids were somewhere in the neighborhood, everything was good. All the neighbors seem to be nice people. Scam artists tend to target older generations. Yes, some of that is due to just taking advantage of old age and the deterioration of the mind, but I believe some of that is the current population of the older generation. They didn't grow up as "on guard" and as cynical as the generations that came after them. They have a harder time believing that there are people in the world that can be so devious and untrustworthy.
  18. Have you ever seen "Where the Buffalo Roam"?
  19. I think the fact that there is so much weight that is put on good and bad pitch framing is a sad commentary on the ability of MLB umpires. Shouldn't there focus be on the ball as it passes over (or around) the plate, not as it land in the catcher's glove?
  20. I live in Waukesha as well and yeah, many people in our neighborhood that are normally pretty diligent about clearing there driveways and sidewalks still have a sheet of ice covering them from last week. I was out of salt and went to Kwiktrip last week Wednesday, they were out. I then went to Sentry and they were out. I then called Ace hardware on Sunset and they said they had a small supply left but they were going fast. There were about 5 people in line when I got there and they were all buying salt. Fortunately, I was able to get 4 small bags. Because of the thickness of the ice and the low temperatures, the salt only made the ice more "breakable". We still had to go out the next day and breakup the ice and shovel the broken pieces off the driveway and sidewalk.
  21. I'm 52, my son is 20. He laughs at me for some of the terminoligy I use to describe things. One that comes to mind is I occasionally refer to the gas station as a filling station. Another that my wife and I use once in a while is "Tyme machine" instead of ATM. I think that is a regional thing because when ATMs first came out, Tyme was the company that operated most of them in the Milwaukee area.
  22. +1 I am a daily lurker logging in for the first time in maybe years to agree with this. Anyone actually bothered by this change needs to sit down and take a deep breath. It bothers me that you are so sensitive in regards to other people's sensitivity about other people being sensitive.
  23. Did you mean to post this in blue because there is no way you can be serious. I can't express enough how much I disagree with this entire thought process. It sounds like bizarro world, especially the part about the union eventually deciding which players go to which teams. You must really dislike owners and employers (not to mention GMs).
  24. I would also be shocked if they made such a major rule change with such short notice. I understand what the players are hoping to accomplish, but what's the rush? I think 2020 would be soon enough.
