  1. No, and it wouldn't even be close. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/rb_hr7.shtml To me this is why Babe Ruth is a complete legend and was possibly the most dominating player in any sport. One example, 1920, Ruth hits 54 HRs, the next closest is George Sisler with 19.
  2. I forget if it was during the 2008 or 2011 playoff run, but I remember being at a late season game and the scores of some other games that were important in regards to the Brewers playoff status were not being updated on a timely basis (kind of like what you mentioned - still had 1st inning score when it's the 5th inning). Yes, I could get the scores on my phone, but it still really bothered me..so much so that I eventually went down to guest services to complain about the issue. To me that's part of the fun of being in a playoff chase at the end of the year..scoreboard watching.
  3. I don't think pretendastronaut posted a link to the article as an example of "new evidence" that changes something. He posted it to show that Porter Fischer is not a "new whistle blower". The new piece of "news" that recently came up is the TMZ article in post #364.
  4. I won't argue that finishing in a good fielding position will help a pitcher in regards to "come-backers", but most pitching coaches don't preach that anymore and it's not a necessity in order to pitch effectively. Also, just because you don't finish in a good fielding position does not mean you are "throwing across your body"
  5. This is inaccurate. Back when I played Little League we used wood bats. Today's aluminum bats are much more dangerous especially for the pitchers 12 and under throwing from 46 feet, the ball really jumps off of these modern bats I'm 40 and have never played baseball with a wood bat at any level growing up. (not to mention a hard coach who like to drill grounders at me from the pitcher's mound while I played SS and also like to drill kids in BP so they would know what it felt like to get hit by a pitch and not be afraid) There were always the newest hottest bats each season from at least as far back as grade school when I remember actually talking about the bats. Technology has certainly improved but leagues can limit that easily enough by certifying the bats through testing. Plenty of adult softball leagues have banned bats and placed limits on the technology. I'm 47 and the bats we used in little league were a mixture of wood bats and metal bats, but mostly wood bats until I think 6th or 7th grade, but the metal bats were not very good back then (they would actually dent and they were much heavier than today's bats) so a lot of the players would still choose the wood bats over the metal bats. Also, as I mentioned in a earlier post, in HS and College you can not use a metal bat unless it has BBCOR stamped on it. Youth levels are a little "trickier" because I don't think they make BBCOR bats yet for the youth players (who use bats with greater than -3 drops).
  6. Thanks Crew07. I actually saw that same video. He has a different hook up than I do and he's using 3 monitors. I really only want to use the two external monitors that are the same size and sit up at the same level. If I can't get it figured out I guess I'll just have to use one external along with my laptop monitor.
  7. Need help connecting dual monitors to a laptop. What I want is just to use the two external monitors (as extended screens - not duplicate screens) and not use the laptop monitor. I figured out how to get the laptop monitor to work with the external screens in an "extended" mode, but no matter what setting I use the external monitors just duplicate themselves. Perhaps my connection is wrong. I purchased a USB Powered VGA Splitter to connect both monitors to the laptop. Any help would be appreciated!
  8. They pretty much have already done this at the High School and College levels with BBCOR bats. The new bats have much less "pop" to them than the old bats. You no longer hear that *ting* sound. Just about every sport involves some risk of serious (and sometimes even fatal) injury. After over 100 years of baseball being played and pitchers not wearing protective head gear, I would be very surprised if they started instituting something like this now, especially at the "non-youth" levels.
  9. You could also try to contact the news team of a local station and see if they would be willing to do an investigative piece on this. See this type of stuff all the news...like "4 on your side" or "Consumer action I team" or something like that.
  10. Seems like some of this stuff may belong in the political forum.
  11. Wow..you have to be kidding! I can't believe how self absorbed some people are. I'll never understand why people having conversations (either on the phone or not) need to talk any louder than is necessary to enable the people they are talking to hear them. Some people talk so loud...unless they have hearing issues, it just seems like arrogance to me.
  12. Excellent post JimH. There are a lot of Brewer fans out there still living in denial.
  13. He failed a drug test and is associated with a shady character like Bosch. His defense for the Bosch connection wasn't "Hey, he wrote my name on a piece of paper but I don't know this guy at all". I'm not sure how anyone can continue to believe Braun did not take PED's. What really upsets me is that he just didn't own up to it. I would have had a ton more respect for him if he had just done that and admitted the error of his ways.
  14. I think a lot of it is players just playing pranks on each other because of the reputation of the hotel.
  15. To be fair, there was nothing to show that he slammed his helmet because he disagreed with the umpire's call. I think he was frustrated with himself because he thought the ball was going to get past the SS and so he did not hustle out of the box as quick as he should have. I think the getting in the face and bumping the umpire afterwards is not excusable but players throw their equipment all the time in anger/frustration.
  16. I have very little faith in Weeks finding his stroke any time soon (or ever for that matter). Because of this, I'm not against bringing Gennett up. However, not to sound too much like Alan Greenspan but...I often think that some Brewer fans have an irrational exuberance when it comes to some Brewer "prospects". I see Gennett as nothing more than a very light hitting infielder. I don't see him hitting .300 at the MLB level. Maybe .250 or .260 with very little power. There is a reason he was drafted in the 16th round.
  17. Passively-aggressively calling people 'fairweather fans' who have lost interest this season & last because of the manner in which the team has been run. Nice. You know, I can only speak for myself, but I've watched as many games as possible of this team whether they've been good (rarely) or stunk (all too often). But if you consider someone fairweather because he/she recognizes that the way Melvin & Attanasio have run the organization has led the team to the precipice of having little talent on the MLB roster & having a pretty barren farm system, then I'm not sure what to say. I guess it makes you feel better to belittle someone? Relax. Ok. I won't be "passive-aggressive". If every time the team "goes south" you whine about the owners and management and stop watching games, then yes, you are a fair weather fan. Call it "belittling" if you want, but I don't know any other way to put it. I don't watch every single game from first pitch to last pitch, and I'll admit that a team is a lot more fun to watch when they are winning, but I'm not going to stop watching a team all together because they go through a period where they seem stuck in a "rut". It happens to just about every team in the league at some point or another. The Brewers might not be contenders for another 10 years, but what am I going to do, become a Yankees fan?
  18. I've been a Brewer fan since the late 70s. I have seen a lot worse Brewer teams than this during that stretch. I have absolutely zero regrets over what the Brewers have traded away in recent years in order to make playoff appearances. There is a word for "fans" who only show interest in a team when things are going well. I think people need to step away from the ledge.
  19. I have thinning hair, pretty much bald on top. A little less than a year ago I decided to give up the "illusion" that I had hair and just went with the "buzz cut". However, I still only go to the barber once every 3 months or so, so it tends to get a little long and shaggy (where it still grows on my head). I guess I just have this conflicted feeling about going to the barber. It just doesn't seem right to want more of something and then go someplace where you pay a person to take a bunch of that something away from you.
  20. Did you read this somewhere? Just wondering. If she can get $350 for a single ticket, more power to her!
  21. I have to pretty much agree with cubsdie and his assessment. Perhaps it was just the optimism of my youth, but I really thought the Brewers were the team to beat in 82 and their loss in the WS to the Cards was an "upset". It also seemed like the national media had a love affair with that 82 team and the likes of Vuke, Thomas, and Harvey Kuehn. They were definitely a blue collar, working man's type of team. Also, remember that back then only 4 teams total from both leagues made the playoffs (not 8). So, it was easier to dream and feel confident about winning the WS once your team made the playoffs. It was a shorter path to that destination.
  22. The author is not related to Terrence Mann is he?
  23. I was 16 years old and had seats in the left center field bleacher for each home post season game in 1982. So, yes, I remember those days and that team quite fondly. However, my memory is a little foggy on exactly how I got the tickets. I believe my mom entered a lottery and we were selected (I still have the stubs. If I remember I will take a picture and post them in this thread tonight or tomorrow). We got 4 seats and even though the tickets were dirt cheap by today's standards, my parents could not afford to purchase all of them. So, I took one seat for each game and sold the rest to my friends for face value. I remember that the scalping price was much greater than the face value and at least one of my friends was making noise that we should sell the tickets. I convinced him (and the others) not to sell and, to this day, I'm so glad I was able to do that. We all jumped the outfield wall after game 5 of the ALCS and stormed the field. I think one of my friends was jumping before Cooper even caught the throw from Yount and he may have been one of the first guys to the crowd that was around the mound. After things "settled down" and they start "ushering" people off the field we all caught a city bus to downtown. We got off the bus around Van Buren and Wisconsin and walked westward down WI avenue slapping hands and celebrating with the throng that had filled the streets. I think we made it all the way to around 50th street when we decided to call one of our parents to come pick us up. I remember the a fore mentioned line drive that Andujar took off his body in the WS. In our teenage foolishness we kept yelling "Juaquin is dead! Juaqin is dead!" Until it annoyed the middle aged woman behind us who finally replied with a very curt "Is Juaquin dead?" Of course we all stopped, looked at each other for a brief moment, and started laughing.
  24. Did the sale go smooth with the previous owners and do you still have their contact information? Perhaps they would be willing to help you out and call Rainbow and get the replacement (since the warranty is non-transferable).
