  1. You think of that Simpsons moment, I think of this one... Kent Brockman: But first! Let's check the death count from the killer storm bearing down on us like a shotgun full of snow. Weatherman: Well, Kent, as of now the death count is zero. But it _is_ready to shoot right up. Kent: Oh my God! [shakes fist at heaven] Darn you snow!
  2. What is the timing for this whole thing? When will the worst hit? I'm trying to gauge what my drive home tomorrow and my drive to work on Wednesday will be like (and what the likely hood that there will be a snow day).
  3. I'm a bit surprised there are no advisories for tonight. Predicted totals must have gone down a bit.
  4. Sounds like we could be in for some more snow over the next few days. 1-3 tomorrow night, then a potential for a bigger storm Tuesday night into Wednesday.
  5. Menards has a loss-prevention team at their corporate headquarters. One of the jobs of this team (they are employed by Menards) is to fly to different areas and go to the stores to test how effective the stores are with loss-prevention. Do they have tight security? Can people just walk out with anything they want without ever being questioned? I'm sure Menards isn't the only company that has teams that test their stores' security.
  6. This doesn't have much to do with the check-out people, but Menards has teams that go store to store and they try to steal stuff. Essentially what happens is the store managers know they are coming, and the security people try to get as much stuff out of the store as possible. Anything they take goes to the next store, and is taken off the culprit's inventory. I have heard stories of bathroom sinks and display Christmas trees getting out of stores without being caught.
  7. This snow wasn't in the forecast before this morning. Flurries, yes, but not 3-5 inches.
  8. I'm not sure if this is Bo Ryan's signature victory, but it is in the top 5 for me. They played out of their minds in the first half, and were just good enough to pull out the victory. Excellent win!
  9. Yes...at least they did a few years ago when I still lived there.
  10. There have been numerous proposals regarding the BC. I have heard that a new arena would be built to the north of the BC, and then Potawatomi would take over the BC and convert it to a casino. I have also heard (but discussions died a couple of years ago) that the BC would merge with the Wisconsin Center District, which would give more flexibility in remodeling. But the WCD was hit hard before the economy tanked, so that won't happen. I know they are looking for a private donor to fund a new arena. I'm not overly surprised the Senator hasn't come forth for a new arena...he forked out a bit for the Kohl Center and wants to sell the team. Regarding the comment about it having the feel of a hockey arena and not a basketball arena... If I remember correctly, the Petits built the building with the intention of securing an NHL team. I think they were hoping a team would move to Milwaukee. In the late '80s, teams weren't moving around like they did in the mid-90s, so the only way he was going to get one would be through expansion (which the NHL did in '93), but the franchise fee was too high. I remember at the time, the Admirals were out-drawing a lot of NHL teams, so a team made sense at the time.
  11. Parking normally isn't that bad before a game. We normally park in the Lake/Frances St. ramp...$4 pay-upon-entry. We also have sought out free street parking within a few blocks of the Kohl Center, and normally have luck (and have only a 10 minute walk). The earlier, the better, obviously, no matter where you park.
  12. That was a beat down last night. We played half the night in the offensive zone...maybe more than half. Lots of penalties, however, something that wasn't good to see. UAA lost their composure, so they were chippy and fighty, and UW got tangled up in all of that. This team has the potential to be special...I hope they don't blow it.
  13. He gets great talent...the problem is they all have been drafted by NHL teams by the time they get here, and all leave early. This is one of his most experienced teams he's ever had, the other being the national championship team. I agree, though, they always seem to underachieve, and I'm hoping they don' this year.
  14. Great game again last night, though I thought Minnesota was a bit more physical in the 3rd period. I have been amazed at how few shots on goal the Badgers are giving up over the past couple of weeks. Minnesota was held to less than 20 (including 5 in the 3rd period). This team has really looked good for a few games in a row now, and I'm hoping it continues.
  15. TLB, how could you forget Magnus? You lived right next to it! I have heard great things about Magnus...a very nice place. Sardine is also pretty nice. Not on the square, but a wonderful place.
  16. Sigh...WOLX in Madison is all Christmas music. November 5 (and may have been earlier, I don't know) seems pretty early.
  17. I was at the game last night. It was a good, old fashioned butt whooping. NH scored on a short-handed 2-man break-away, and the guy made a decent move to beat Bennett. The fact they only scored 4 goals is mind boggling...their goalie didn't make a lot of great saves, but the Badgers never had a guy in position to score on rebounds.
  18. That was my favorite episode so far. I think dressing up Lilly like various pop-stars was great.
  19. We used a buyer's agent, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. He acted as our buffer when we came in with a ridiculously low offer, so we were shielded from the swearing and name calling that went on. He did all of our paper work, arranged everything for us, and made it very easy at closing. The sellers left our house in a disgusting state, and he even paid for someone to clean it. I was incredibly happy with our agent.
  20. Stay as far away from these things as possible. Sure, they'll sell you a cheap laptop, but when you get home, there is a 50% chance it won't work. When I worked at an expo center where these were held, more people complained about them than any other event we had. People tried returning stuff all the time. That, and the vendors sold drugs to each other...
  21. 75 cents for air at the gas station. If it's not free, it should only be a quarter.
  22. Heard "Wizards in Winter" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra today on the radio. We are 2.5 months away from Christmas, and 1.5 months until shopping season. I understand the radio station wants to advertise for TSO's concert on November 9, but come on...the whole song?
  23. There are way too many get out of debt commercials on the sports radio stations in Madison (and IIRC, Milwaukee is the same). There is even one that starts out, "There are a lot of commercials where you hear of people getting out of debt." Those, and the Fat Jack commercials during football season.
  24. Buy them used on Amazon, then resell them when you don't need them anymore. You save tons of money, and get a lot more back than you do at the bookstores.
