  1. Why does BA sound so surprised Manny is being lifted here? He's thrown 90 pitches, and his command is off today. Add in that it's a scoring opportunity for the Brewers, and this shouldn't be that surprising at all.
  2. Yeah, it's more of a netiquette thing. Typically if it's a consistent issue, the staff has sent friendly PMs initially, usually it's not much of an issue for anyone beyond that. But I can tell you that there is already an update in the works for the rules of conduct that will mention some issues like consecutive posts and AOL-speak (ETC) more specifically, as you suggest.
  3. Rickie has single-handedly flubbed away two outs already today, and it's the 5th inning. It's becoming harder and harder to live with Rickie's defense, honestly.
  4. Manny doesn't seem to have any control at all over any pitch other than his fastball. The Brewers need to end this outing quick, or this game is going to get out of hand fast.
  5. Manny needs to throw strikes, and Rickie needs to not botch plays on defense.
  6. Man Billy, throw the ball home!
  7. As JJHardy7 brought up in a thread in the ML forum, how about trading Fielder FOR Sabathia? They'd get a good, major-league bat that they'd control for three years which is great for them since they'll be ready to compete again next year (unlike a team like the Giants or Royals), and they can fit in Fielder however they'd like since they can have him DH, especially with Hafner's status very up in the air right now. Plus, the Brewers can backfill 1B fairly well, though they'd better be darn sure that LaPorta or Nelson or Gamel or whomever can come up an hit reasonably well to replace him for the remainder of the year. The Brewers would essentially be getting Sabathia and either a first/supplemental pick or supplemental/second for Fielder. Seems very possible to me and a good fit for both teams.
  8. What about trading Fielder for CC? I know it very well might be a stretch and to be honest I'm not 100% sold on it, but it would clearly open up positions for Gamel and LaPorta next year if Fielder is gone and they'll be cheaper options. Just a thought... It's actually enough of a match to work, and simple enough that I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up yet. Cleveland gets to re-tool with a good, major-league bat that they'd control for three years which is a good fit for them since they'll be ready to compete again next year (unlike a team like the Giants or Royals), and they can fit in Fielder however they'd like since they can have him DH. Plus, the Brewers can backfill 1B fairly well, though they'd better be darn sure that LaPorta or someone can come up an hit reasonably well to replace him for the remainder of the year.
  9. Today my fiancee and I went to see "Get Smart" (which I thought was very funny and would recomend Not to push things too off topic, but my sister called me last night after she saw Get Smart with her Fiancee' and said the same thing. She's pretty hard on movies and was a fan of the TV Show, but she said she laughed a lot.
  10. Since Weeks has already been making 7 figures, pretty quickly. I think Weeks gets a modest bump next year (barring a breakout yet in 08) up to maybe 1.5-2 million. Again, as they're paying Grudz 4.5 million right now, he won't be more expensive than that for probably another 2 years. If the Royals trade Greinke its going to be for more than one hole filler for a few seasons. I don't think anyone in either of the threads discussing Greinke has suggested that. They'd be getting another top Brewer prospect as well- Gillespie was mentioned here, Escobar mentioned elsewhere.
  11. and yes it would be awesome to have a Sheets/Sabathia front end of the rotation. It would be pretty awesome to get to a three-man playoff rotation of Sheets/Sabathia/Suppan. In fact, it would be insanely awesome. I would just want to make 100% sure that Sabathia could put us over the top first. Understandable. But regardless of when we'd get Sabathia, we're still going to have at least two full months left in the regular season, and a ton of things can change in that time. As long as the Brewers are in the race (within a couple of games), it'd be hard to fault them for making the acquisition, even if the team finishes 4 games back in the WC race when it's all said and done.
  12. If you want to trade LaPorta (I wouldn't even think about trading Gamel) for a few wins, you better be darn sure those wins will be needed for something important. Agreed- we'd need to be in the race for sure, and we'll have to see where the team is in a month to determine that. While there might only be a couple of wins difference between Bush and Sabathia, there could also be a trickle-down effect with Bush in the pen (ie, Bush is probably worth a few runs over a guy like Choate or DiFelice, etc). Where the real value could be though, is in the event of injury, as Sabathia over our sixth starter could be a sizable gap. But still, it's a lot to give up for a handful of wins at most.
  13. It'll be interesting to see if McClung can get through the 7th unscathed. Nope, ugh. He's clearly hitting the wall.
  14. Looks like the original poster has a lower-case yount.
  15. Ok, both sides have had their say here, time for this back-and-forth to stop, please. Back to normal vent thread from here.
  16. so why would they take on an oft injured 2B about to get really expensive? How expensive do you expect an oft-injured, poor defensive, mediocre offensive 2B to get? He's not going to be more expensive than the 4.5 million that they're paying Grudz this year for another couple of years.
  17. Where did you hear that he'll miss 4 starts? I'm guessing it's just a reasonable assumption- he'll miss 3 starts because he's on the 15 day DL by definition, plus you'd think it's fairly likely he'll make a rehab outing in the minors at some point. I think 3-4 starts is a fair guess.
  18. I think the fact that Doug didn't flat out deny he would trade Fielder is a clear indication that he's gone at least at the end of next year, if not this year. I noticed that as well this morning. Doug was more wishy-washy in denying a possible Fielder move than he ever has in the past, which to me says they're very, very open to a deal and practically inviting the other teams to start making offers.
  19. Further note- If we lose Sheets this is EXACTLY the type we need to acquire I agree completely. Weeks/Carlos V and someone like Escobar is probably a great starting point for the Royals.
  20. What do you mean pay considerably? I would think Gamel/Escobar and a pitcher would be a pretty solid starting point. If we're really looking to upgrade the rotation, it's almost certainly going to have to involve one of our top 5 prospects, even if it's for a rental player. That said, two comp picks at the end of the year would help offset that to some degree.
  21. He's signed for 9.5 million next year and 11 million in 2010, with a 2 million buyout or 11 million option. So he'd be guaranteed 22.5 million over the next two years to be worse than Dave Bush if he doesn't rebound.
  22. You do know the saying Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Right? That is exactly what I was referencing with that. I thought it was extremely obvious to see that in the post. As a reminder, this is the vent thread. People come here to vent without fear of counter-argument. This isn't the best place to start an argument about what Yost should have or shouldn't have done last night.
  23. Arroyo would certainly be cheaper, but he's also been pretty bad this year- Bush has actually out performed him to date. If the team is really looking to upgrade the rotation, they're going to have to look at a guy like Sabathia and they're going to have to pay considerably to get him (or a guy like him).
  24. While it was the right decision to have him bat last night it doesn't change the fact that he absolutely blows right now. I agree- while I was hoping for some vintage Hall heroics, I pretty much figured that the result would have been better with Branyan hitting. Hall is just that screwed up right now.
