  1. Any reason for why Corey slowed up headed into the bag there too? Man alive, do we run out ANY ground balls any more?
  2. Tommy Lasorda is huge douchebag, you should hear how he treated his dying son and that would eliminate any warm feelings you had for him. Fact, or urban legend though? But on topic, Carey seems like a pretty good choice for the gig. He should do well, but he'll always be compared to Bob, and that'll probably get him fired or make him quit at some point.
  3. I wonder if Johnny had his head down and thought that Conine tagged first before going home. He wouldn't have continued to "run" to first.
  4. What a lazy schmuck. That's inexcusable..... better be Miller in there tomorrow to wake Estrada's butt up.
  5. Thanks for making no effort to run hard there, Johnny. Grrr.....
  6. Make it rolling a 1 or 2 on a 6 sided die if it makes you feel better but it's such a small sample, it doesn't even matter. A .300 hitter is more likely to get a hit in any situation than a .200 because he's better vs. the competition he's facing. Who is to say that's not true on individual matchups as well? Either way, I'd be wasting my time. Buy a used stats 101 text book or google "sample size". Don't pull that crap when I'm asking a valid question that doesn't necessarily fit into the 'laws of sample size'. Every time someone posts an opinion about something without facts/evidence to back it up, you call them out for not basing their beliefs/opinions on something without evidence. Now the shoe is on the other foot with you not citing evidence, and you're getting huffy and evading the question. So, I'll ask again: Where are the facts that say that the statistics of a batter vs a particular pitcher are irrelevant? Without evidence to the contrary, your opinion is just that.
  7. A couple of ugly K's for Hart as well.
  8. Jeez Graffy, he hangs you a slider on the first pitch and you pop into the IF fly rule.... ugh.
  9. Jenkins sure has been back to his flailing at crap in the dirt ways all night here.
  10. It's similar to flipping heads 5 out of 7 times and thinking that's evidence that the coin might not flip 50/50. That's a very poor analogy, as the best hitters aren't going to get a hit 50% of the time. Put it this way Russ: Mench is 5 for 7 against Harang with, say, runners at the corners in a 1-1 game in the 9th, while Estrada is 1 for 7 in his career vs. Harang. You're telling me you wouldn't prefer for Mench to hit there? Do you have any ACTUAL proof that hitter vs pitcher individual match ups are worthless? Until you show something to actually back that up, it's simply your opinion, and not fact.
  11. It's not proof of anything. It's proof that he's had success against said pitcher in the past, for whatever reason. You have proof that it's meaningless? If not, then it's a reasonable idea to play the matchups.
  12. Not PHing for Harang here seems pretty questionable, despite how well he's pitching.
  13. Vargas is actually Brewer property through the end of 2009.
  14. I feel obliged to point out that a 7 AB sample is pretty much worthless for predicting future success. I'd say that batter lines vs. a particular pitcher might actually be something worth noting. It's possible that Mench sees the ball well out of his hand, or has noticed a tip or something.
  15. Poor plate discipline, misplaying balls in the outfield and being overrated as a player. Since when is misplaying balls for Jenkins an issue? I know you don't like the guy and have an agenda against him as a result, but come on.
  16. With defense Utley laps him, but defense and MVP almost never go together. Yeah, the MVP is a lot like the Gold Gloves in that aspect.
  17. I was at the game when Mike made his ML debut on the 16th of July 01. Terrible to hear.
  18. He visited with both Uke and Schroeder/Anderson on Friday.
  19. And the bounces keep going against us......
  20. Villy needs a few long days off.
  21. Villy is becoming mortal at a bad time, it seems.
  22. Villanueva has been pretty crappy since the break, and actually in much of July.
  23. Anyone still think Mench is "fine" defensively? Ugh.
  24. Bonds' elbow guard is just absurd. It's like a bionic arm.
  25. I have a good source- my sister's boyfriend (who looks exactly like Ryan Braun, and thus must be a great source of insider info) has a cousin who has a friend who cuts Steinbrenner's hair, and he says there is a strong rumor we're getting Jeter for Gwynn and a PTBNL. For reals.
