  1. Curtiss seems like one of those great 7th/8th inning guys that will help when Williams/Hader are down. Nice get.
  2. Curtiss is 28, right-handed, and has performed very well as a reliever for Miami this year and Tampa last season. This is his first 'real' season in the bigs, depending on how you quantify last year.
  3. Payton Henry heading the other way, per Heyman.
  4. Man, that NL West race is going to be nuts.
  5. ...AND they got an extra month and half out of Adames...AND because they didn't have the competition that they would have had if they waited until now, they probably would have had to give up more than they did to get Adames. Good point. I'd bet a decent amount that they'd have had to pay far more than they did if they had acquired him today.
  6. There's still about 15 minutes left. I can't see them hanging onto him. He was the one guy I thought for sure would be on the move. Yep. He's so ticked about the service-time manipulation that he's undoubtedly going to leave.
  7. Well, at some point the teams' have to take the offer that's on the table for free-agents-to-be. A deal headlined by Turang is way better than a QO/comp pick situation.
  8. Unless the Cubs pick up his salary, Bryant should not be that expensive. But it seems the Cubs have been picking up salary to get better returns. Ways to get Donaldson and Buxton from the Twins if the Brewers want to take on salary. I do wonder if this is one of those 'trade him to anyone but the Brewers unless they're the best left at 2:59'-type situations with Bryant.
  9. You guys are talking like this is over and nothing else will happen. For at least another half hour, it's still possible there'll be a move.
  10. Bryant, Story, and whomever the Twins are considering dealing are really the major names still out there.
  11. I have to say, kudos to the Cubs for actually going all-in on a sale. Thought they might be hesitant to tear it all down due to PR, etc., but they're doing it and will shorten the time of their rebuild as a result.
  12. As a non-Cubs fan, this trade is infuriating. The only thing that would make this more annoying is if they had gotten that type of return from an NL team.
  13. "Friendship" isn't the reason, but no doubt he's forced throws to Adams and Nelson over the years. It worked more often than not though. Yep. He prefers to throw balls to guys he can trust. The problem is, Adams/Nelson were top receivers in those situations. Rodgers hasn't seen Cobb in almost three years, and Cobb isn't the player he was the first time around.
  14. The trade was officially announced by the Brewers.
  15. This is where I'm at until he proves he can bring his numbers vs. RHB back into line.
  16. LOL No...Here's the thing guys..I look at the postseason and the Padres and Dodgers specifically and I ask myself do the Brewers legitimately have enough to compete with them in a 7 game series, without pretty much needing everything to go right. The answer to that is no. Yes, there is ALWAYS luck involved, and the Brewers aren't going to come close to the talent the Dodgers have, but what I would like to see is for them to try to eliminate the need for absolutely every single thing to have to go right. In order to do that they need more pieces. The bigger the better. You aren't going to completely eliminate the "luck" factor, but I do believe you can at least try to minimize it. Well they have been a full run better in ERA than any other team in baseball the last month, and they have arguably a better top 3 in their rotation and a better closer than either of those teams, which are widely considered important components of a playoff team. So I don't know what exactly you are seeing that the rest of us are missing in the comparison. By the way, one if not both of the Padres and Dodgers will have to win a do or die single WC game just to make it to the first round. Also, the Brewers HAVE already played the Padres seven times and won five of them, so they have already technically won a best of 7.
  17. Except Pomeranz sucked as a starter and then improved when he went to the pen. Norris sucked in the bullpen and we are...keeping him in the bullpen. Wasn't it you who yesterday chastised me for citing a partial season's stats for Berrios, now you're doing the same with Norris?
  18. Yeah, Voit has red flags all over his stat lines, and I agree with endaround. Seems like a guy that from here on is about 50/50 odds between toast and a major rebound candidate. I'd rather roll with Tellez, personally.
  19. His LHB/RHB splits are noteworthy. I do think if there's a valid criticism of CC's managing, it's that he doesn't always setup his lefty relievers for success. Rather than using them mainly as out-getters vs. LHB, he often wants to use them in a multi-inning role. Norris seems like a guy that should be brought in when the 'due up' is LHB/RHB/LHB, and he probably should be limited otherwise until he shows that those splits are reverting back to his more modest career splits rather than the absurd difference from 2021 thus far.
  20. I'm on the record as stating that Kennedy would be a great get.
  21. His ERA inflated, per his FIP of 3.78. He's been productive in the past two seasons, but not so much this year. Likely hurt by his bad Tigers team, but also possible they see something they can tweak to make him effective again. This staff certainly has a great record of doing so with pen guys.

  23. That's not really an accounting trick in any way. Whoever is paying the guy the salary has it count on their payroll.
  24. Do we know the actual final deal yet? Reports were Ruiz/Gray + multiple mid-level prospects. I'd be interested to know how mid-level those guys actually are.....
