  1. Absolutely, yes. He's playing chess while teams like the Pirates perpetually play checkers. In addition to the moves noted, it's also noteworthy that two of his much-maligned 2019-20 offseason acquisitions, Garcia and Narvaez, have performed well as key contributors this year, showing that the weirdness of the 2020 season had more of and impact on the 2020 results than perhaps already assumed. I see your point and generally agree, but the Pirates aren't even playing checkers. They are playing "try to lose on purpose". Teams like the Yankees are playing checkers. Need 1b, trade for 1b. Need LH hitting, trade for LH hitting. Stearns finds value/flexibility and makes it work. That is a very fair distinction.

  3. Well, I for one will be having tons of fun watching their short game.
  4. I think that was discussed around that time someplace here, possibly in a TR thread. Yes, Josh was fired by JJ before whatever this thing is/was.
  5. How do? Now he gets a MLB check for a few months. Sounds good to me. Not sure how it backfired. Gave up nothing, had nothing to lose, and his performance lost nothing. Didn't use the word backfired, so I'm assuming you're responding to someone else on that point. I'd think that blowing out your elbow and needing surgery/rehab wasn't the result Axford wanted, hence working out poorly for him. If you think he was purely in it to get an extra check, then you have a fair point.
  6. I believe that only non-vaccinated close-contacts are required to go on the IL. As I understand it, most of the Brewers' COVID-IL moves are because the players actually tested positive.
  7. Well, you could definitely argue that this ended even more poorly for Axford than it did for the Brewers....
  8. At this point, we should probably assume that this will work its way completely through the staff and pray it doesn't go further through the lineup.
  9. Didn't he give up like 7 runs in an inning? Would he be better? If he's not better than Blaine Hardy then he's not our top prospect. Dfa him. Well, they each pitched one inning in the bigs, and Hardy actually performed better.
  10. It's a bad situation, though. I doubt Curtiss pitches three of four days, immediately after arriving, if they had any other real options.
  11. Well, Perdomo didn’t hurt himself! There’s that… True. At least he didn't spike himself on the way back to the dugout.
  12. Neither of them have any command. Is there anybody left down on the farm that could help? No. That's literally why the ghost of John Axford pitched yesterday.
  13. We will agree to disagree. Apparently. You seem to think that this was entirely a publicity thing, which makes zero sense. When you strip away what makes zero sense, what's left is the truth- they acquired a guy that they thought might be able to help them.
  14. I am legit surprised by that.
  15. Kind of figure Thanasis will be on the roster. Also assume Hill is signing a vet minimum contract which means the Bucks will have the TPMLE to bring in a player during the season. Hill is the one recent signing that I’m not sure will be the minimum. Very interested to hear the details on his deal.
