  1. How exactly did it backfire? How did it not backfire, it was a joke. The guy is done, we have no need for that kind of shenanigans at this point in the season. Backfiring and not working out are two different things. The move literally didn’t hurt them at all. You’ve probably noticed that the Brewers have a major issue with a situation in the bullpen right now, and it had the immense misfortune of happening after the trade deadline. They identified someone that they thought might be able to eat some outs in the meantime that they were actually able to acquire. Otherwise, enjoy the Sal Romano types, who won’t be much better….
  2. But a vet who was out of baseball for 2+ years, and is working with new battery mates and coaches, throwing to batters he doesn't have a book on. I'd think an extra day or two would have helped with some of that.
  3. I'd have to agree. Yeah, he'd have a chance of unobstructed playing time on a bad Cubs team or the like, but he's a strong candidate for a roster-expansion call-up, and possibly more considering the status of our 1B situation.
  4. In a lot of ways, bringing him in last night was a disservice to both him and his potential usefulness for the team. Right off a plane and very little time to work with the catchers and pitching/bullpen coaches. Not a guarantee that it would have been better results-wise if that had been delayed a couple of days, but it certainly would have set him up better for the possibility of success.
  5. Not sure this is a cause for optimism!! In theory, wouldn't it be best if the Brewers finished with the 2nd most wins in the NL? Hypothetically, let the Giants play the winner of the wild card game between LAD and SD, and the Brewers can play the Mets/Braves NL East winner. This is correct- at this point, we'd probably prefer to be the 2. Basically guarantees that two of LAD/SD/SF are out before we would even play them.
  6. My bet is that Hood also signed a minimum deal, as he too is a journeyman-type that doesn't really do anything overly well. Seems like they may be interested in carrying a few of those types to see if they stand out for a deep bench-type roll, but I'd still expect someone more significant with their MLE.
  7. Obligatory reminder that this thread, as the Yelich thread was, is the place to discuss factual items related to the Hader situation and isn’t going to be a place for opinions regarding the virus, vaccines, etc. Mod tolerance of anything else will be nonexistent. Thanks for keeping this thread on track.
  8. Hill does seem like a great fit. Though I might prefer to use the exception on a better 3-4 guy than semi to spell Giannis.
  9. I’d be a little peeved if they had signed Semi to anything other than a minimum deal. Seems like he’s one of those guys that plays nearly half the game off the bench and manages to accumulate like no stats since he doesn’t really excel at anything.
  10. At this point I think we need to start assuming that much of the bullpen will either get it or be close contacts....
  11. Good grief. As I noted earlier when he was 'suspected' of leaking the locker room tape, this is so out of character from the player he appeared to be back in the day. "For example, a team source noted Tucker would tell one player to ignore the coaching points of a fellow assistant in charge of that player’s position group." That's absolutely outrageous behavior from an assistant....
  12. From Will Sammon… In case you're wondering (because I was): Trades can in fact still be made — just for non-major leaguers. Players who were previously on a major league contract this year but outrighted off the 40-man cannot be traded, either. Brewers find a way to trade. Needed RHP with guys out. So just to expand on this- if we wanted to trade Turang for, say Robert Hassell, we'd be able to do so right now?
  13. Guys, this is a thread about John Curtiss. Please continue any discussion about Vogelbach, etc in a more appropriate thread.
  14. Always makes me feel dirty when it feels like and ump call literally changed the course of a game. No guarantee we win if CB gets that right, but I doubt we lose by 7….
  15. A couple of great 4x 100 relays from the men & women tonight to finish off swimming. Great races!
  16. While Woodruff is a nice hitter for a P, he is still pretty bad, and there already are 2 outs. That is the exact time an 8 hitter needs to hack on 3-0. Especially since Pina has been seeing it well lately. EDIT: If a PH is a foregone conclusion, then, sure, take on 3-0. It wasn't though. Nah, take the walk and take a shot with the pinch hitter. The absolute most they were going to get out of Woodruff anyway was one more inning and they only ended up getting one more out. No one was up in the Brewers pen. No PH.
  17. Ads changed for me too in the last day or so. I get an ad when I change forums or refresh a page. Yes, I’ve started getting mobile ads the past two days as well….
  18. This quote seems like he is being treated like a “snowflake”. Give him sometime to be comfortable to play first base. Council virtually quoted my comment from the McCalvy tweet. So no one actually called him a snowflake, and one person posting something that you yourself interpreted as such equals everybody? Bit of hyperbole, no?
  19. That’s literally not true, as the Brewers’ offense has been above average since the Adames trade. You’re focused on May numbers for some reason, but again, we’re two months removed from May.
  20. By what standard would you say the Brewers offense was good or very good in May? Moral of the story is that it isn’t May anymore, and they haven’t performed poorly in two months.
