  1. Replacing JBJ’s bat with even a passable batting line from Cain the rest of the year could indeed be a massive upgrade.
  2. Good lord, Nightengale is just terrible at this. How is he still employed?
  3. No one was worried that Escobar was going to cost too much... this was exactly the reasonable move most people were always on board with, going all the way back to this past offseason. Yep. If it’s a lesson in anything, it’s that the Brewers were always going to make some moves to make the team better, and that lesser moves can and do make the team better. Which is what most people have been saying all along, as you noted.
  4. I MIGHT do Turang/JBJ for Donaldson, not Turang and Cain. I’d agree on a deal if Buxton was involved.
  5. Donaldson is indeed logical if you can get one of the OF contracts sent back as well. Otherwise, cost would definitely be a factor.
  6. I just think that there are different players available to acquire, differing levels of talent in your own farm system, and different needs to fill than there may have been in previous years. Hence, I don’t think past performance is necessarily indicative of future results.
  7. Credit to Tom S. For the thought, but under Rodgers’ philosophy with regard to aging veterans, Rodgers himself wouldn’t have had a job here, right?
  8. Well, I’m certainly on the record as stating that Bowden is a doofus, but if this is legitimate, then no one can say they’re not seriously looking. Still doesn’t mean there’ll be a deal, though.
  9. On Nelson, I’m reasonably certain that it was reported that the Packers DID offer to bring him back on a reduced deal and it was Nelson who declined the pay cut. Not sure his story is the same as Bulaga, Lang, Jones, etc. as a result.
  10. And I think the counter argument to that would be that he shouldn’t. You have a 12-13 year veteran, a guy that knows the relationships of the locker room better than the coaches, and the move you make directly impacts his job...I don't see how that's out of the question to just check in and see what he thinks about it. Yeah maybe the answer is still no. And I guess that’s the heart of the question- is he happy just to have his opinion considered, or is he going to have the same (or bigger) hissy fit when they don’t act in accordance with said opinion? Based on his history, I’d have to bet that wouldn’t go over well and would just result in the same stuff we’ve seen from him since may.
  11. This seems like an unusual way to judge potential deadline deals. First, many of those players DID have modest value when traded. Second, I’m not sure you can judge any potential deals based on historical deals because we don’t know what other deals they considered previously, whether they judge their playoff chances differently now vs the past, hence a greater willingness to make a bigger deal, etc.
  12. I don’t disagree that he’s no longer a third base option, but what data are you citing to support a claim of poor performance at first?
  13. And you know this….how?
  14. What’s the Brewers’ record vs the Padres and Dodgers this year? Also, what moves have the Dodgers and Giants actually made thus far?
  15. And I think the counter argument to that would be that he shouldn’t.
  16. I’m certainly not the first to say it here, but yeah, between Adames and maybe Rowdy, he may already have made the most impactful moves they will make this season. This is hard for me to believe. I fully expect some relief help but with Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta leading the rotation and Hader closing things out Stearns knows he has to take advantage of an elite pitching staff. We have been scoring runs lately but I it is obvious that offense is one of our more glaring needs especially with Yelich/Hiura not coming around. Would relief help be more impactful than the Adames trade?
  17. Without looking back officially, your recollection is the same as mine.
  18. Sorry, though I absolutely follow you, I can’t agree with this. This is the stuff that makes fans and, apparently, other players feel good, but gets teams into both cap trouble and a talent issue when you’re suppressing young talent to play a fan-favorite that doesn’t have it anymore. If the team thinks a guy is worth $3 million and the player can get 10 on the open market, they shouldn’t pay him 6 just to make Aaron feel better.
  19. I’m certainly not the first to say it here, but yeah, between Adames and maybe Rowdy, he may already have made the most impactful moves they will make this season.
  20. Why in the WORLD should they be offered a contract when they’re no longer useful? That’s a guy who is upset that his friends are leaving. Sad personally, but a horrendous way to base personnel decisions on.
  21. Check out his OBP, lack of left/right disparity, defensive ability, and position flexibility. HIs OBP is nice, but keep in mind the team around him. Teams are pitching around him. You can pretty much guarantee that if this team still had Grandal at 1b, everyone would be ********. He even has a higher OBP. Splits - He bats .209 vs .244 - Still not very good. Position flexibility is good, but if he comes here, he's playing 1st or 3rd, thats it. If they’re constantly pitching around him, how does he have 25 home runs and a .500 slugging percentage? And no, he’ll get plenty of time in the OF here. If not this year, he 100% will next year. But he’ll undoubtedly play out there this year as well. This team needs guys who get on base, and drive runners in ahead of them. Gallo is a perfect fit at both.
  22. he was asked specifically about that. it's sped up to condense time. Don't think Rodgers talks this fast He keeps saying he wants to be a part of conversations. The key is he fine when the decision isn't what he wants. Woodson was a mistake to not keep but man his other examples and his reasoning for keeping this guy's is sentimental at best but not how to run a team. Woodson and Hayward are about it. The Packers simply don’t let guys go and have it come back to bite them. They’re extraordinarily good in that regard- they know when a guy is done.
  23. Also, to the comments on wanting to give the front office input on who they should bring in each year: they literally did that with Jimmy Graham, and it was a massive failure. Hard pass.
  24. I appreciate his answers as well, but also for the fact that it shows how absurd his thinking is. He literally rattled off a list of vet players he wanted resigned that weren’t, all of whom promptly showed with their next organization that letting them go was 100% the right move. Don’t let the man anywhere NEAR the GM office.
  25. Check out his OBP, lack of left/right disparity, defensive ability, and position flexibility.
