  1. It's about to get better, they said. The Reds are coming to town, they said. This team just cannot get out of it's own way.
  2. Counsell literally did this exact same thing in the series finale against the Pirates before the AS break and had it work out the exact same way.
  3. Great work, Jennings. Has pulling Williams for you ever worked once?
  4. It was basically an intended walk where they were totally fine with just setting up the double play but wanted to see if Orlando would give them a free out instead. And he gladly obliged.
  5. Of course after they give it away on defense early on the offense makes up for it by going into complete hibernation.
  6. Wouldn't be a Kratz start if he didn't cost us a run on a passed ball.
  7. Did you ever play Little League? I was a 3X All-Star in that and Pony League thanks to my old Coach Cooper. It's too bad he died early from lung cancer because I always thought he could manage better than 1/2 the MLB managers today. I highly doubt that the Cubs organization signs a youngster without looking at their past social media history. Odd that they seemed to be okay with Aroldis Chapman's domestic violence history then.
  8. Heck of a job by the bottom of the order. Always a treat facing Sal Romano. He's like the modern day Wes Obermueller.
  9. Shaw. 2 in scoring position, 1 out, 2 strikes. You've absolutely got to at least go down swinging there. Come on. Know the situation. Understand the situation.
  10. Who knows if they even have insurance on Yu's contract, insurance is not a standard thing on every MLB contract and even when it exists it doesn't cover 100% of the contract.
  11. It's fun to root against a team or even wish injury on players?? I saw that from a poster here a few weeks ago that they were hoping Byrant's injury is "serious". Of course it's fun to root against a team. I hope the Cubs lose every game the rest of the season. Why wouldn't you? You don't think the teams competing with us want us to lose too? As far as a poster saying they hoped Bryant's injury was serious, I'm here basically every day and I don't remember seeing that. I'll certainly stand corrected if I'm wrong but with all due respect I think you should provide evidence of such an incident if you're going to make that kind of accusation.
  12. Wouldn't it be better to win the NL Central proper and not "back into" by having the Cubs go on a huge losing streak?? Would that really give us the post season confidence that this team has not had? Big Al Of course it would be, but #1), If we win the division, I don't really care how it happens. If the Cubs and Cardinals tank in September and we win the Central with 85 wins, I'm certainly not going to be bothered. #2), Our scoreboard watching has absolutely no bearing on what happens on the field for any team.
  13. As long as it's just the fans doing it and not the players, I really don't see the harm. I don't think anyone really thinks its helpful, but it also isn't harmful. Sure, we control our own destiny, but its just the reality of it that any loss by a team you're chasing is valuable just like your wins are. So yes, it does matter. And it's just part of the fun of it. Gives you some baseball you're invested in to follow when the Brewers aren't playing.
  14. Sure, if the goal is just to get the biggest names you can find. The Dodgers are 2 games under .500 since acquiring Machado.
  15. I still very much tend to doubt that we win the division. Obviously 3 games isn't insurmountable, I just do think that experience here does count for something and the Cubs have been here and done that the last few years. In recent history the Cubs have been a 2nd half team while we've been a 1st half team. Obviously things can happen. I just wouldn't put the odds at any more than 10% or so to win the Central. It's not just us and the Cubs, the Cardinals are right with us too. But a WC I think could still happen.
  16. Schoop is not getting DFA after 50 ABs. Just not happening. I'll never say never with Stearns, as he lives way, way outside the box at times, but I don't see how Murphy makes much sense for us. Moving Schoop for Murphy is kind of an interesting idea, except Murphy can't play SS and isn't RH so I don't see that really fitting either. Plus it's nearly unheard of to take that big of a loss on a trade just 3 weeks after a deal.
  17. I guess it's a big thing in that they would host if they end up tied for a WC, but if they tie for the second WC they'd still have to play a tiebreaker game anyway.
