  1. Didn't upgrade at C. Didn't upgrade at SS. Arguably downgraded at 2B. Didn't upgrade at SP. Everything we got is what we decided we wanted. We wanted Arcia's weak stick back, we wanted Schoop's free swinging bat, we wanted to stick with the guys we had in the rotation. We wanted to stick with Pina and Kratz at catcher even though very good rental catchers were available for far less than we paid to rent Moose and Soria. In every sense of the word, the Milwaukee Brewers got exactly what they wanted this trade deadline. I appreciate what David Stearns has done, and he's the right man for this job, but let's be clear-- he blew it this trade deadline. This is a learning experience he needs to own. Whether by coincidence or intent, he's began a bit of a trend in unconventional, outside the box moves. He got away with it when he kept the OF logjam in tact after Yelich and Cain were acquired. He did not get away with it this time.
  2. This is why when people start threads after 2017 like "Trade Corey Knebel?", instead of just laughing them off like they're loony, sometimes it's best to keep an open mind. Sometimes unconventional ideas often end up being good ones.
  3. Hope we enjoy watching the Cubs and Cardinals square off in the NLDS. Because we all know that is going to happen.
  4. Didn't see it, but I'm guessing he was hoping Travis Shaw would not follow up with the worst AB of the series by anyone.
  5. LOL Shaw. That was mighty clutch. Takes the first pitch he sees, than wildly hacks at w pitches out of the zone. Awful.
  6. Now or never here. My money is still on never, but we'll see what happens.
  7. Oh really? Guess I assumed that since this is the Cole Hamels thread and all, that we were using the Cole Hamels trade to justify how much better Theo is than David and how David missed out on his big opportunity. Didn't realize we were going back and evaluating Theo's every historical move here.
  8. Considering CC is gone there may be a "so you're telling me there's a chance" chance. CC still makes the calls from the locker room, no way getting kicked out keeps managers from managing the game. Pat Murphy has an unread text message from CC waiting on his phone as we speak that reads "Time 2 start firing up Lyles and Jennings double barrel action k?"
  9. I guess I am not quite clear what your point is. If we acquired him on deadline day, the time from July 14th until then is not relevant to us anyway. Yes, we would have missed him for 2 weeks after that and he would not have helped us then, but we would have been no worse off than we were anyway in those 2 weeks, and in the present and the future we would be much, much better at catcher, for a cost of basically nothing. Given how close the wild card race is that would have been very beneficial compared to the position we are in now of throwing Erik Kratz out there every day.
  10. Except that Ramos has been on the DL since before the deadline, and just came off on the 15th... I get what you are saying, but he would have been zero help on the DL, until now... He missed 2 weeks. That's it. We knew he would. Everyone did. He would have been back before Pina got hurt.
  11. I'm going to laugh if they put in Hader tonight just to get him some work after not using him in a 1 run game yesterday.
  12. Adding a catcher wasn't going to make the difference. Ramos over Kratz would be a significant difference. Kratz single handedly just cost us 3 runs, also.
  13. So to review: - Theo trades arguably the top prospect in baseball plus for Jose Quintana, gets a highly mediocre 4.46 ERA and 4.85 FIP. - Stearns signs Jhoulys Chacin for 2 years/$15.5M. Gets one of the best free agent starters of the 2017-18 class. Highly effective #2/#3 type results. - Theo gives Tyler Chatwood almost 40M over 3 years. Utter disaster. Can't hold his spot in the rotation. More walks than K's, makes Freddy Peralta look like a control pitcher. - Stearns signs Wade Miley for basically nothing. Injured until summer, but when he comes up, first 8 starts are better results wise than anyone could have imagined, ERA just north of 2. - Theo gives Yu Darvish a massive 6 year 9 figure deal. Injured and effective so far. - Theo trades for Hamels. Great thru 4 starts. So yay Theo, boo Stearns for all that? Man, tough crowd for David.
  14. I am so glad we stood pat on catchers when good catchers were available for basically nothing and are stuck with a near 40 year old journeyman career replacement level catcher as the only healthy one on our roster.
  15. One single season of exception 7 years ago, in which they won 96 games and still didn't get passed game 6 of the NLCS, hardly disproves the narrative.
  16. It can be argued that we possibly have one of those guys in Corbin Burnes. Unfortunately, he is being used once a week in relief. So true. As our rotation continues to falter I continue to hate this decision more and more. And to be frank, not like Burnes is having a major impact in the pen that a guy like Hader has which has made him so difficult to remove.
  17. Don't know why roster management would have or should have been anything of a concern. They would have just DFAed Kratz when Ramos got healthy and Pina would have become the backup. They had an open 40 spot at the trade deadline that Ramos could have been in in the meantime.
  18. 1. Christian Yelich (L) LF 2. Lorenzo Cain ® CF 3. Mike Moustakas (L) 3B 4. Jesus Aguilar ® 1B 5. Travis Shaw (L) 2B 6. Keon Broxton ® RF 7. Erik Kratz ® C 8. Orlando Arcia ® SS 9. Wade Miley (L) P By my count (although I'm sure Braun is available to PH), we are playing with 3 guys day to day and one available catcher who is 38 years old. Nothing like rolling the dice with a skeleton roster in a pennant race.
  19. Come on Brewers, I've almost reached the acceptance stage, take me back to anger or at least bargaining.
  20. I was okay with taking a flyer on Lyles, but I kind of just assumed when we acquired a career 5.35 ERA and -3.5 WAR career pitcher, that the plan was not to have him pitch multiple innings late in a 1 run game with literally every other reliever in our pen fresh and available.
  21. Okay, it's now continuing. Sophia threw out a softball asking if Chase struggling early is like Freddy struggling early. Next question another easy one asking what their approach will be now that the standings are tightening. Now he was finally asked about Jeffress and Hader in the most roundabout softball way possible -- he was asked if his approach will change with them and if he regretted anything. He basically said he needs those guys for when they lead and they needed Lyles for the 8th tonight. Was prodded slightly to ask if that will change later and Counsell said maybe *if* they're rested. Then he was timidly asked if even though Lyles was struggling if he still had confidence in him. . Duh. Just absolutely the most softball tossing group of reporters that you could possibly ask for.
  22. What an absolutely gutless grilling of Counsell. Did nothing but asked him how Thames is.
  23. Might be 24 hours away from 3rd place. We continue to collapse down the stretch. It happened in '14, in '17, and appears to be happening again. At least we might be able to stop hearing about what the Cubs are doing every damn day, like it matters.
  24. I'm pissed that Counsell can now slither out of this with a "well we didn't score anyway".
