  1. Before we traded for Wheeler, i'd rather Stearns/Counsell simply tried Burnes in the rotation. Nope, they want their strong bullpen and I agree with them. Get a solid starter to hold down the fort. Putting Burnes in the rotation isn't going to keep them from having a strong bullpen. Just got Albers back, just traded for Soria, already got Hader, Jeffress and Knebel. Pretty loaded with or without Burnes.
  2. I can live with Posey getting you for a double, what I can't live with is losing all control against the bottom of their weak order. Friggin unacceptable.
  3. When he walked a pitcher hitting. 034 on 4 pitches, you knew it was going to be a really bad inning.
  4. Just can't do that. Unbelievable. He's hitting. 034 and he's trying to give you an out. Just get it over the plate.
  5. He's a big catch-22. When he gets hot, you want to play him a lot, but he's at his best when he's getting regular time off. Beautiful swing.
  6. That'll happen when you do things like trade potential superstars like Glebyer Torres for a short term reliever rental. I get that they were under enormous pressure to win it all, 108 years will do that to you, but I'm pretty convinced their drought would have ended anyway. They were built to last and they kind of sacrificed all that to go all in for 2 years.
  7. It will be interesting to see how they approach the lineup vs. LHP with Moose here. Braun should play, Aguilar could probably use a day off but I wouldn't do it against a LHP. This is a time we could use a healthy and productive Santana to start in RF, with Braun at 1st and Jesus at 3rd. My guess today: CF Cain RF Yelich 1B Aguilar 3B Moustakas LF Braun 2B Saladino C Pina SS Arcia P Guerra I'm guessing they generally start 1 out of Moose and Shaw against LHP and keep the other on the bench. Maybe they go Perez at 3rd or 2nd instead but my guess is they're not really planning on platooning Moose much.
  8. Every prospect above spot 62 has a lower K rate than Ray. Once you get to 62-100, there are several players with similar or worse K rates. One interesting comparison Monte Harrison. Ray's K rate and every other stat are significantly better than Harrison's, but Harrison is the 80th ranked prospect while Ray is unranked. Harrison is one year younger than Ray, and they both have been in AA all season. Yeah, Harrison being 80th makes the whole "We love Ray, he just strikes out too much to make top 100" argument look pretty silly. Harrison: 37.2% K rate, .233/.315/.382/.697, 13 HR, 22 SB Ray: 27.9% K rate, .263/.350/.523/.873, 22 HR, 32 SB Same level, same league, nearly same age with Harrison being 11 months younger. Explain to me how Harrison is the better prospect than Ray.
  9. It also depends on what you mean by "beat". Does 3/33 beat 1/15? Guess it depends on your perspective. But absolutely no way do I think he does better than $15M annually on the open market. Tough to gauge the years he'll get.
  10. What's the problem with that? It's a message board. We speculate on things a lot.
  11. I would guess Moose gets somewhere around 4 years, $50M. While I think he'll have a better market than he had this spring, I think the days of guys like him landing 9 figure contracts are pretty much over for right now.
  12. There's a natural aversion to losing guys/changing things for fans who follow teams too closely. Case in point, I don't recall ever seeing a single person on here praise Kodi Medeiros as a prospect, and suddenly lots of people were aghast at losing him for Soria. I don't know how much time you spend in the minors forums, but Kodi definitely had his big fans here.
  13. I didn't realize how low of a strikeout guy Moustakas is. I just kind of assumed that a low OBP guy with a lot of power is going to be a high K player.
  14. This guy has got to have some seriously wicked doob.
  15. I don't mind having Moustakas around, but it does bother me to an extent how lefty heavy we have become in the lineup. The troublesome part about this trend is how poorly it matches us up with the main competition in our division, the Cubs, who are almost exclusively left handed in their rotation. It essentially neutralizes 3 of our biggest offensive weapons in Shaw, Moustakas and Thames. I guess it probably is helpful to Aguilar and Braun to some degree but not as much as it hurts us when you have to take out Shaw and Moustakas for Perez + Villar or Saladino basically every time you face the Cubs.
  16. I really don't think you do something as drastic as move your 3B to a position he's never played if this is your thought process. I think it was a little more than that.
  17. I'm just surprised they haven't gone Aguilar at 3rd, Shaw at 2nd once or twice this year to at least test the waters on something like this before pulling the trigger.
  18. New lineup vs. RHP: Thames Cain Yelich Aguilar Moustakas Shaw Pina Arcia Spitballing here...they have become very lefty heavy.
  19. No, I don't think so. I think we're out on Dozier, out on Schoop. I think the plan is Shaw at 2nd daily and that's it.
