  1. Brewers really have no Drury equivalent value wise. Arcia probably has more value, and Villar less value. McKinney and Stokes are probably pretty close valuewise. Would you guys be comfortable trading Arcia and Stokes for Happ? Absolutely no chance, but I also don't think Arcia and Drury are anywhere close in value. I think Villar is a way closer comp.
  2. I generally hate mutual options because they just seem dumb to me. It's literally nothing more than an arbitrary 1 year contract agreed to well before either side knows what the player's value is going to be with a chance for both to opt out once they know. Most of the time that value is not going to be right there in the middle and so one side will decline. That said, given how scary the market was for guys like Greg Holland this year when they willingly went on the market, if Soria pitches well the rest of the way I could see this being one of those rare mutual options that gets exercised by both sides.
  3. Right. Let a deep pockets team spend that kind of money on a reliever. That's not were the Brewers should be spending that kind of money and I believe Moneyball thinking also states not to spend a lot on relievers. Unfortunately that makes the deal Kodi+ for a straight up reliever rental which is less than enthralling. I was okay giving up Cordell for one last year, I'm a lot less enthused about giving up a pitcher with the upside of Medeiros. Especially with how barren we now are on the farm for lefty arms. There is just nothing now. Not that I think the return is unfair but I would have rather given up someone like Diplan, Ponce or Brown.
  4. Well, yeah, true. Lol. Just saying I think money is about 10 times a stronger factor in free agency than winning.
  5. Two top 10 organizational prospects plus more? No thanks.
  6. Bingo. Winning with 10 million other reasons to stay. It's all about the money. If we win the World Series and his agent tells him his FA market should be about 2 years, 25M, he'll walk.
  7. Ehh. Drafting Trea Turner would have been a fine move too.
  8. I have to wonder if this frees up Burnes for the rotation, especially adding Albers too.
  9. I think that's pretty much all you had to say. Good trade. Pretty much literally everyone that discussed the upcoming roster crunch said Medeiros was a lock to be added. Now that we dealt him we would have struggled to find a spot for him anyway?
  10. We already have a Martin Maldonado, we just call him Manny Pina.
  11. Kind of thought Ray would make it, he definitely has the credentials this year. Ray's trajectory kind of exposes some flaws in the ranking systems if you ask me. He was really overrated after the draft. Now he's been really underrated since then.
  12. Exactly. Is everyone forgetting last year? Brewers tried to hang in the race post Nelson injury with a rotation of Anderson, Davies, Woodruff, and Suter which was basically a bullpen day, and Wilkerson. Jeffress was even used as a starter one game. Woodruff, after a promising start, faltered in his last 3 or 4 starts. Hey Woodruff and Peralta may indeed have great futures, but counting on them in the heat of a race when there are affordable veterans makes no sense. Anderson and Davies were phenomenal in the second half last year (sub 3 ERAs), and Suter was really good. (3.64 ERA) Wilkerson had 2 starts, one was bad and one was outstanding. We missed the playoffs last year because we couldn't score a run in the second half. Had absolutely nothing to do with trusting young starting pitchers.
  13. There is no way the Cubs would be able to trade from someone like Stroman without having to poach from their MLB squad. They have next to nothing in their farm system. In fact, I'd argue that the top 15 prospects on the Brewer list are better than anything the Cubs have. I wonder how awkward it is for Theo to inquire about these big names knowing full well they have nothing of interest to offer anyone. It's like going into Tiffany's to get a ring for your girl with 20 bucks in your wallet.
  14. Tampa should jump all over that if it's true. They already blew it once with Houston.
  15. Crooked Cap. I’ve never liked that. K Rod lite. It's a tribute to his late father who wore his that way because "that's the side the sun hits the face." Just honoring his dad.
  16. You could do that right now as well, the Padres had a really loaded system 5 years ago.
  17. Gibson is better than you're making him out to be. He's having a fine season, really has become a strikeout pitcher and improved his slider. He was a top prospect coming up so this breakout season isn't out of nowhere. Obviously he's not DeGrom but for the right price he makes a ton of sense to try to get with Dozier. You are 100% right about my assessment on Gibson. I want the Brewers to make the playoffs but don't want to give up the prospect capital it would take to acquire a #3 pitcher. The Brewers, in my opinion, desperately need to upgrade at TOR SP, 2B, SS and C. I see remedies to 3/4 of those available currently with a trade for Dozier, a call-up of Arcia and, if they are truly made available, a deal for deGrom, Syndergaard or Archer (C is Pina-Nottingham-Kratz-Bandy whether we like it or not). I don't see an innings eater like Gibson as any better than Chacin, Anderson or Guerra. They are very, very solid rotation pieces for the regular season, but nothing that represents a true #1 in the postseason that will their stopper. The Brewers need a TOR SP to compete for a WS and if they don't get that I would prefer they exhaust the in house options of Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta (which gives you 6 SP with the aforementioned 3) rather than dealing for the Gibsons of the world. If he's on the level of Chacin, Guerra, and Anderson, I'm good with that, and that will be a big help. I hear you about wanting a true #1, but said true #1 probably isn't available to us -- at least not for the price they're willing to pay. All I'm saying is that if they get Dozier and want Gibson too, I'm good with that. I don't think it's going to be as pricey as you do. They've got to make some 40 man decisions after this season anyway, and if they want to do that and give us a little better shot now, I'm ok with it. I think the Gibson's of the world are better than the Hamels or Happs of the world and have the potential to be more. All that said, I am also okay if they want to give some more in-house opportunities. Woodruff is long overdue for a shot, and my feelings about Burnes being in the pen have been established.
  18. That's hilarious if the Padres do that. It's like giving Hosmer 8/144 wasn't dumb enough so now they have to try to top it.
  20. The concept is solid, but the price is too much. Shields has neutral to negative surplus value at his contract. Soria is a nice addition to the pen, but should probably be treated as a rental given his option price next year. I wouldn't give up Medeiros in a deal for these two.
  21. I like Peralta, but we need to pump the breaks on him a little bit in regard to expectations and trade value.
  22. Drury is much better than what we have. He is only 25 while in his 4th big league season. Career .755 OPS and even higher when he played full time for the Dbacks. Again, these could be inexpensive improvements to the club. But he's not an improvement. He's less than a 1 WAR player for his entire career, while Villar is at 1.4 just for 2018. He's also having a terrible season, and recent history matters too. He's going to get more expensive after 2018 in arbitration and he's not worth it. He's slashing. 180/.255/.280 this year. If he was doing that in Milwaukee, we'd be asking why he hasn't been optioned down yet, not when he's going to become the everyday second baseman.
  23. Drury doesn't really interest me at all. We certainly don't need him for 3B or OF, and he isn't even an upgrade over Villar at 2B. 3 years of control for him doesn't mean much when he could be a non-tender candidate the way he is going. I'm a little more interested in Gray as a change of scenery guy, but I wouldn't give up much. Maybe a lottery ticket or two.
  24. Drury isn't very good and doesn't provide anything that the numerous 2B fodder already on the roster doesn't already provide. I wouldn't give up anything of value for him.
  25. I mean he was 0 for 4 with a shallow fly that ended up being a sac fly mostly because of a poor throw, so.... Still, he put it in play and gave Cain a shot so credit to him for that.
