  1. Yeah but give him credit, you still gotta take advantage of the mistake and make him pay for it and he did indeed. Both Braun and the Brewers offense really needed that one.
  2. At least we know it's not just our IGT reactions talking.
  3. Thames is a lot better hitter than Morrison whose last season is looking like the exception. I know Thames is a tough player to grade because he doesn't have a super long track record of MLB success and prior to his stint in Korea he was not a very good player. But he's clearly a completely different player than his pre-Korea days. All told, Thames is somewhere in the ballpark of a 130 OPS+, 900 OPS, 38 HR per full season player since his return to the bigs over 600+ PA. That's even counting his work versus lefties. Better against just RHP. That's a very high end hitter, a heck of a lot better than Logan Morrison, and the 2 years of cheap control after this season are a bonus. I'm not saying we will get a fair return for that because yes, the market for that position sucks right now, but if we can't, we should just hang onto him.
  4. Both of those would be on my list of 'shrug' moves. Guess the Villar move still depends on whether he ever gets any better again, and whether Sneed ever makes it and how he turns out.
  5. How is this just 'giving him away'? That's implying that Thames has no value. If they could just go get a .900 OPS lefty bat for free, they would have done it by now.
  6. Yelich at SS, Aguilar at C would solve plenty offensively, haha. Might create some other problems.
  7. Yeah there's no way we've even had a starter go 6 innings 38 times. But as a team giving up 3 runs in the first 6 seems plausible.
  8. I understand, just don't expect him to be claimed. Think teams will wait it out and see if they can get him for the prorated minimum. But I could be wrong. And its possible a team works out a trade for part of the money. It might make sense for us to put in a claim given all that if we're comfortable with the salary.
  9. I'm guessing they probably wouldn't either, but the difference in value isn't nearly as significant as you're making it out to be. Rentals by nature lack significant value, and Kuechel is having somewhat of a hot and cold season. Starting pitching is an area of great depth for them, 1B is a black hole and Thames would be a major offensive upgrade there and come with 2 additional years of control at a cheap cost. So yes, there's absolutely logic, I'm not saying they would do it but I do see the logic.
  10. Still don't think that's enough. Just not a good enough headliner. Its similar to the Yelich package in total value. I think it would take more than that for Noah.
  11. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2779630-eye-opening-mlb-trade-ideas-wild-enough-to-work It sounds a little off the wall when you first hear it, but when you read it the logic is actually pretty sound for both sides.
  12. Unreasonable? That's probably around the lines of what they would be looking for if they were seeking an MLB ready package rather than prospects. Hader and Shaw clearly have a ton of value but the other 3 have debatable levels of trade value.
  13. Amen. Everyone would be on the table except maybe Yelich. I truly would empty the farm for Syndergaard. So you would give up Aguilar, Shaw, Hader, Taylor Williams, and Arcia (for example)? Just going by your assertion that everyone besides Yelich is on the table. I would love Syndergaard but I'd be a lot more cautious than that. If Syndergaard and deGrom were more important than what we already have we'd be the ones selling assets and the Mets would be the ones contending instead of struggling like they are.
  14. Makes $4.5 million in his second year of arbitration. I imagine that is the case. Tampa is in cost-cutting mode. At 28-32, they have exceeded expectations, but stand no chance of catching the Red Sox and Yankees. If I were Stearns, not only would I be on the phone to inquire on Miller, but Archer and Ramos as well. You'd think if they did it to cut costs they would have just non-tendered him after the season. They don't save a dime by cutting him now, they're on the hook for the whole 4.5M. But yeah, if you can get him for super cheap -- Brad Miller or Sogard? That's a no-brainer.
  15. I agree with some of this, but Burnes has not been 'pretty bad.' He has a 3.25 road ERA which is much more telling of how he has performed in neutral conditions. Its Colorado Springs. Josh Hader is pretty much unhittable and yet his numbers in Colorado Springs last year were also very ugly.
  16. Castro is having a nice season. Not great, but nice. His contract is $11M next year which is reasonable for his production. Castro is not a negative value player that a team can just take on and 'eat' for lower prospect cost. He has value. Not much, but it's there. Even if he didn't, the Marlins are not in contract dumping mode anymore, and aren't going to be taking on lower returns in exchange for contract dumps.
  17. Just in case yesterday didn't already suck enough, the Cubs won on a walk off grand slam.
  18. Based on what? He has a .745 OPS, nothing great but nothing that's going to plummet his value. He likely has a greater value as organizational depth than as a trade piece anyway. I agree with the poster who said he has no less or more value than he had preseason. If there's one guy who to me has really hurt his trade value, it's Brett Phillips. Coming into this season he was still a BA Top 100 prospect and somewhat significant trade asset. I had hoped that, with him being blocked, he would tear up AAA this year and present himself as a very attractive option in trade, giving us options on what to do with him. Hasn't happened at all.
  19. The amount of 0 and 1 run outings by this offense this season is just disgusting.
  20. Unfortunately, I heard that he might be playing LF some when he comes back. I thought they might. It is the only way to get both of Aguilar and Thames into the lineup without benching Shaw which should pretty much never happen. Defensively I have some concerns, Thames is not a great fit for LF and you're also presumably pushing Yelich to RF where he loses a lot of value and his weak arm is amplified.
  21. It's frustrating when that happens, but it has worked the other way too.(Anderson, Jeffress, Aguilar) and some guys have had huge success here and found very little elsewhere (Jeffress again, Lucroy, Gomez)
  22. I'm starting to think Freddy Peralta needs to be pitching for the Brewers now.
