  1. I am not that far off from those thoughts as well. I don't want to have those feelinfgs, but they are knocking on the door. Really? I don’t agree with everything Counsell does but this seems like more than a little much. I want Villar in at 2nd too but the options all suck and just because he isn’t going with the sucky option I want in the last week or so isn’t a big enough deal to me to want him fired.
  2. 1) The pitching is actually well above average, at least at the moment. 2). World Series’ have been won by below average starting pitching and great bullpens as we have. 3). Way below average hitting isn’t going to get you anywhere either.
  3. That’s clearly motivated by your dislike for Villar rather than your desire to see the team do well, considering how bad the current alternatives to Villar are.
  4. Perez cannot hit a lick vs. RHP, not this year, not ever. For whatever reason Villar has clearly fallen completely out of favor to lose starts to Perez vs. RHP. They might as well DFA or trade him or whatever by this point.
  5. If you don’t score any runs I’m not sure what difference it makes if you’re losing 9-0 or 1-0. They’re not good enough offensively, that’s the point.
  6. Woodruff getting the call up for the injured Miley per McCalvy. At least, he’s starting tomorrow.
  7. Someone brought up that Cain and Yelich are doing exactly what we expected from them when we signed them, and that’s true and also kind of scary. They are doing exactly what was hoped of them and yet nothing has changed. If people really thought becoming a lower strikeout team would be the answer, it hasn’t been so far, because we are indeed striking out less.
  8. Jed Lowrie has to be the most obvious “go get him” candidate out there right now. He doesn’t play for a team that expects to contend, he is a switch hitter and versatile in a pinch, he’s a rental who shouldn’t be overly expensive, and is a good defender. He pretty much checks every box. He’s also playing out of his mind this year. I really have no idea what it would take to get him. It’s definitely going to take more than the nothing burger we send the Mets for Walker last year, but beyond that I really don’t know. Like I said he’s a rental so you wouldn’t think much but he’s been so good and other teams will want him too. Plus Oakland is hovering around .500 so you might have to wait for a bit for them to drop out of it, but you never know with Beane. He kind of plays by his own set of rules.
  9. They really do need to try something different. Try a different lineup order. Fire Coles. Bat the pitcher 8th. Promote Orf and start him. All of the above, I really don’t know. But they are at the point of doing something or some things drastic to try to light a spark. This is not just a funk or an early season “sleepy” offense. This has been one of the worst offenses in baseball for almost a full season now. We’re well past the point of just being patient and waiting for them to come out of it on their own.
  10. I’m torn on Hiura. One because he’s really the only elite bat in our system. The other hand is that yeah, unless the Brewers have some sort of inkling that the DH is coming to the NL in the next year or two, if he can’t play the field anywhere he’s just not going to be a fit for an NL team.
  11. Are there any teams that just bring the guy up to stash him on the 60? There’s still plenty of dead weight on this 40 (Sogard, Franklin, Saladino) where I don’t think the spots are at that much of a premium, but I could see there being points in a 40 man roster crunch where you’re past the “Super 2” cutoff and the spot is more valuable than service days and a couple hundred grand.
  12. I’m obviously dreaming pretty big here, but if we’re at or near 1st at the deadline, what do you think a Realmuto/Castro package would cost? We can live with being patient with Arcia if we can get something from the other two spots. This would solve that. Castro is probably just average production for 2nd, but better than what we’ve got, and JT is obviously well above average. I’m guessing the Castro part of the trade wouldn’t cost much more than taking his salary. The Realmuto part of the trade, that will be pricey.
  13. We said the same things about Alcides Escobar in 2009, that he wasn't going anywhere and would be our SS for a long time to come. That isn't a knock on Arcia, just a reminder that everything is always subject to change based.on what opportunities come about.
  14. He’s been getting a free pass because 1) There have been much bigger problems in the offense, and 2) He’s had some really big late game hits in crunch time. But yeah, a .283 OBP is awful. If he’s even at .300 at years end that would be terribly disappointing. Honestly we really miss Thames.
  15. I think Dubon would have been the no brainer callup now. It’s a shame he got hurt.
  16. My comments were specific to the offense, which has stunk for years and continues to stink, and they are not going to contend until that changes.
  17. How does Coles seriously still have a job? I know it’s not all his fault but this was supposed to be the one part of our team we didn’t need to worry about and here we are still just leaving off from the second half of 2017. Broxton gone. Cain here. Yelich here. Problems also still here. Sure they’ve cut down on strikeouts, which has accomplished absolutely nothing. At some point you just have to hold the guy in charge accountable and give someone else a shot to get through to these guys.
  18. I had so much hope for Villar after 2016. He looked like a young ascending star that we flat out stole from Houston. His blend of power and speed as a middle infielder made it easy to forgive his choppy defense. I had the same hopes for Broxton after his 2nd half in 2016, but Villar doing it for a full season made it seem more real. Unfortunately he just hasn’t been able to build on that and solidify himself as a lineup mainstay. I guess we can only be glad he didn’t take our extension offer.
  19. I think there are just so many moving parts right now that Stearns probably doesn't want to put Orf on the 40 man roster, and then something else happens. As it is, Dubon is going to take up a spot on the 40 man, as they won't put him on the 60 day DL list. Keep hitting Orf, and by the end of the month the picture will have cleared up. I think you mean Franklin here. But that brings up a good point. Dubon is on the 40-man, and will likely be placed on the 60-day DL, opening up a 40-man spot for someone. He won’t though unfortunately because they would have to promote him to MLB and pay him a MLB salary to do that and they won’t do it. Same situation with Houser last year.
  20. Orf should be called up last week, and with the way Villar has done vs RHP a Villar/Orf platoon at 2B makes all the sense in the world, at least for the time being, plus Orf can start once a week or so at SS. Instead they continue to recycle through the suck and wonder why guys with career .600 OPS marks can’t just “get going.” If Orf comes up and you give him the same 70 PAs you gave to Sogard and he’s hitting the same .100, so be it. At least you’ll know what you’ve got. Just plugging in the next journeyman with a career .280 OBP isn’t going to solve your offensive problems. And on that note, I rarely am this vocal about criticizing this FO but enough with this “versatility” crap. It was a great theory to a point and now you’ve overdone it. Not every single player you call up needs to be able to play every position on the diamond. Being versatile or being Left handed does not compensate for being bad. The only guy they have been willing to make an exception for is Aguilar and he’s about the only one who has worked out well. I think it’s very clear from our offensive production the last few years that offensive production has been sacrificed for defensive versatility.
  21. I fully expect Saladino up tomorrow. Or Sogard back. I’m not sure which is less exciting.
  22. I know some are going to feel sorry for Nick Franklin but this is actually a sweet deal for him. If he gets injured one game sooner he never comes up and loses thousands. So basically the opposite of Dubon.
  23. Nah. There’s nothing to figure out, Hader isn’t complex and they know what to expect. Occasionally he’ll hang a slider or get behind and get too much of the plate with a fastball and get hit hard if they’re sitting on it. Happens, just like it could to any power reliever.
  24. Yeah I don’t think that one missed anywhere. That many pitches, he had to sit fastball. Got frozen and he got it across the plate.
  25. Is that really what you think of our system? That it’s just a bunch of Nick Franklin potential types filling out benches? I’m not disagreeing that Fulmer probably requires Burnes and Hiura, but I do definitely disagree with your evaluation of our system.
