  1. I think CC should quit with the Jedi mind trick games and the Brewers put him on the DL already. They won't now since they've already lost 2 days of retroactivity with the PH appearances.
  2. I guess? They have the 4th worst pen in the NL by ERA, so someone is hitting these guys.
  3. Braun has had 5 massively hittable pitches in his 2 PH appearances in the last 24 hours and couldn't touch a single one.
  4. I can't understand why any pitcher would ever throw anything out of the zone to Sogard.
  5. I thought Medeiros usually piggybacked off Houser.
  6. Yelich and Cain are as expected. Braun is okay, runs hot and cold and his availability will be a problem the rest of his career. Shaw is still decent but is a likely regression candidate to some degree. Villar began his regression last year and continues to do so. Pina, Perez, Arcia, and Santana have regressed. Sogard has redefined the word "regression".
  7. Chacin pitched very well tonight. He should be leaving with no worse than a 3-1 lead, not a tie.
  8. LePay and Bill gushing over what Dubon is doing in AAA. If only we had a need at middle infielder at the MLB level at least in a reserve role...
  9. I hope Santana was taking notes when Yelich went to back up Cain there.
  10. Not to pile on Sogard (actually don't really care at this point), but if he at least clears the pitcher in his AB instead of grounding into a DP, there would only have been 1 out and Cain definitely doesn't get sent.
  11. When Sogard was coming up to the plate I was kind of feeling bad for him. He seems like a good dude, must feel a ton of pressure right now, doing his best, etc etc. Then 2 pitches later I was over that.
  12. Me too, but it's all a moot point until he can play in the field.
  13. He literally could have just stood there in a Heisman pose and at least cleared the pitcher's spot, and he couldn't even do that.
  14. I need to mute Matt and Brian when Sogard comes up. Bad luck excuses every time and praise on Counsell for trying to "get him going".
  15. Yep, so much for the "Nothing to see here, just his scheduled maintenance day."
  16. This is hurting the team. I could live with it if Sogard was relegated to late replacement duties but he's on pace for 300 PAs. I don't know why Counsell feels the need to regularly work in his awful veteran journeymen as much as he can. I had the same complaint with Nieuwenhuis who was sadly like 10 times better than Sogard. Stearns needs to have a conversation with Counsell in the immediate future where he informs him in an extremely nice and professional way that if he (Craig) doesn't start using Sogard in the extremely limited manner that he should be used, he (David) will remove temptation for him.
  17. I guess you don't watch too many Brian Dozier AB's because i've seen plenty over here. He is precisely what Stearns and the rest of us are trying to stay away from (and what everybody whines about Santana for). Big power, lots of K, prolonged slumps at the plate. He has a lower career K rate than Yelich, so this doesn't really make any sense. The fact that he hits a lot of homeruns is not a problem. He would be a fantastic addition to the lineup. He's a rental however, so the price would need to be right.
  18. I was going to post this in the Drake trade w/ Indians where we were discussing their terrible bullpen but I didn't want to get it sidetracked. Let's say the Indians, who are contenders, are already getting desperate with their pen and come to us and say "Ok, we need to make a big move to bolster our pen. Let's revisit Mejia. Mejia for Knebel straight up." Given our existing pen depth and the fact that we have gotten by well without him, along with his regression risk, would you do it? I'm guessing they'd want Hader for Mejia, but that conversation would go nowhere fast.
  19. He's still on pace for over 300 plate appearances as well. The whole point of having "depth" is to not have to play guys who suck. If you do it's kind of pointless. I feel like Stearns had little to do with Sogard but he was a guy who Counsell just had to have back and Stearns obliged to let him fill out his bench the way he wanted. I realize this is just a theory and can't be proven right or wrong but if it is true hopefully it's a good lesson for Counsell to do the things he does best and leave the personnel decisions to DS. Whatever the case may be, it's high time to cut their losses, admit the mistake and move on. Try Orf or Dubon, I really do not care either way, neither can be worse than what we have now.
  20. Holland alone costs more than our entire pen combined (even if you include Knebel and Logan). Hope the Cardinals enjoy that one.
  21. Mostly agreed on Sogard. The reason Braun gets so many days off is because he's 34 and made of glass. Braun's body does not care whether we are playing divisional rivals or cupcakes. He needs regular maintenance days to have any hope of being fully effective for a full season. He is still on pace for 500 ABs and we cannot expect more than that. Every time Braun has a few good days with no signs of injury people start saying "Keep him in there, he doesn't need the day off". Then his back or calf flares up and he's out of the lineup a couple days anyway. Yes, he needs the days off.
