  1. Saladino absolutely is an option to be DFAed. Whatever the reason he was brought in, a player with a .610 career OPS isn't going to come in and fix your offensive woes. The Brewers flip the 40th man on their roster all the time. Guys like Saladino are totally expendable and pretty much constantly available via waiver wire or in your farm. Saladino, Sogard, Drake and Wilkerson could all be DFAed and not really missed at all. So there's at least 4 easy candidates.
  2. C - Vogt's return might help some but not much. They could go straight platoon at catcher but you're going to lose some defense having Vogt in that much. Most obvious guy available is Realmuto. He's definitely obtainable and definitely not going to be cheap. 2B - Hiura is not getting here any time soon and isn't even playing 2nd right now anyway. Tradewise, Dozier is probably the best available but I doubt the Twins will sell anytime soon. Orioles will probably sell Schoop if he's healthy. He'll give you pop and decent defense but being only controlled through 2019 isn't someone you really want to give up a ton for. But there's not much else out there. Not a ton of teams you can really identify as sellers in April. SS - Nothing really to do but ride it out with Arcia. Short term if you want to option Arcia down and give Dubon a trial at one of the middle infield spots it's not a crazy idea but realistically it's probably not going to make a huge difference. Bottom line, if you want to improve one of the 3 weak lineup spots drastically it's going to have to be via trade. Hiura is too far away and Nottingham and Dubon aren't Cody Bellinger type prospects that are just going to come right in and rake, and that's about all who is on the horizon.
  3. Was all fun and games til we had to start playing good teams. And crazily, the pitching was great this series and we were swept in 4 games.
  4. I agree Pina is a backup catcher. He'd be a fine backup, but that's it. And I've been a Pina supporter. I can understand why they wanted to give Villar another crack but he just isn't very good. Mediocre offense and mediocre defense -- there's just nothing really to get excited about with the guy anymore. I'm willing to give Arcia til the end of 2019, but I've felt he was a highly overrated prospect and has done nothing so far to differentiate himself from Alcides Escobar.
  5. Darvish and Quintana have ERAs over 5, someone is knocking them around this year. It's just not us. Their performances wouldn't be making us better, and literally any pitcher wearing a Cubs uniform is effortlessly mowing us down, so this has a lot less to do with Darvish and Quintana and a lot more to do with our pitiful offense.
  6. Don't see it. They'll blame the wind and tip their caps to the Cubs pitchers. Sogard will still be here tomorrow, Coles will still be here tomorrow. Which is the only really logical thing to do. I mean they could send Sogard down since his stat line looks nothing like the rest of his career. Give him a chance to get his head together. But to fire the hitting coach when you are 16-13 one month into the season is just being knee jerk. Coles is in I believe his 4th season and has never led an offense better than 20th in runs scored, that is not knee jerk. He's had 500+ games to put his stamp on the offense. And Sogard cannot be sent down without his approval which I assume he would not give since he's going to be paid the same regardless.
  7. Every hitter in the lineup and bench should be embarrassed to look any member of this pitching staff in the eye after this embarrassment of a series. Except Drake, no one should ever have to be ashamed to look him in the eye.
  8. Haha. Sogard can keep his fair. Sogard seems like a nice guy. I hope he has all summer to spend with his wife and daughter to do stuff and enjoy his $2.4 million dollars without the commitment and burden of a full-time job.
  9. Sogard is so worthless. You might as well pinch hit Suter.
  10. Anyone want to give us a TOR starter for a slow, slap hitting, bad defensive right fielder?
  11. Don't see it. They'll blame the wind and tip their caps to the Cubs pitchers. Sogard will still be here tomorrow, Coles will still be here tomorrow.
  12. There's no way that was intentional, was it? I didn't see it. Would be insanely stupid if it was.
  13. Remember in spring training when we were all freaking out about the pitching and gushing about how good the offense was going to be?
  14. Do the weird unwritten rules about not stealing come into play here for both teams, knowing 2 runs is insurmountable?
  15. I have to think that being shut out by the same team 5 times in a single month would be an MLB record at least in the modern era. I can't imagine any team has ever been shut out 6 times by one team in a month.
  16. It does sound Walker's spot in New York is definitely on the rocks. If you're going to go after him, which I think they probably should, I'd actually try to work out a trade with the Yankees for 2 reasons: 1) You don't have to take a chance at losing him on waivers to someone else, and 2) You can probably get some salary relief, which you don't get claiming a guy off waivers. I'd offer them any non-prospect organizational depth piece from the minors, doesn't matter, and ask them to eat half his salary or so. This might work for the Yankees too because they'll be on the hook for everything anyway if he goes unclaimed so this assures them of getting out of half of it anyway. Then just DFA Sogard.
  17. Coles should probably be gone. While I'm sure it's not all his fault and he's got some weak bats in his lineup, he's got several years of a pretty uninspiring track record now and should be getting more out of the bats than what he's getting. You don't add Yelich and Cain in the same off-season and accept more of the same offensively. Player-wise, there isn't much that can be done short of a big trade to fill a weak position. Realmuto, Schoop, or Dozier would all be helpful and probably obtainable, but at some point you're going to start gutting your farm again. Machado is obviously the big prize and we could probably get him, but the price would be so high for a rental that it would pretty much be a failure if you don't at least get to the World Series this year. So if they're not willing to trade you've pretty much got to ride it out. Villar's 2016 is looking more and more flukey, and Arcia for all of his defensive praise really hasn't seen his bat come along like we had hoped for. Sogard and Perez aren't better options though, so there's not much to do internally. You can probably improve the bench with guys like Dubon and Phillips, but Dubon probably isn't going to upgrade much with his bat and Phillips won't be valuable for anything other than a good pinch hitter unless he learns how to play catcher or middle infielder overnight.
  18. Good grief, how many times have we been shut out already this season? 6? We've got to be leading the league. But hey, should be fine if we can go back to playing the worst teams in baseball every day.
  19. 1.35 ERA, .176 BA vs. Brewers 4.23 ERA, .260 BA vs. other opponentz. 3.53 ERA, .248 BA Overall Stats Thanks, I gotta be honest,I thought the variation would be even bigger.
  20. One team in baseball that can't solve Cubs pitching, and it has to be us. I wonder what their ERA is versus us as opposed to versus the rest of the league.
  21. I'd expect you'd have to open with something like 8/240 just to stay engaged and even that wouldn't be enough. He'd also have to fall in love with Milwaukee in the next 5 months because any offer we make can be beat or matched by the bigger market teams. Much like CC of a decade ago, you're most likely looking at a rental.
  22. I'm not saying that it isn't something along the lines of what the Orioles would be seeking for a caliber of player like Machado, because that's probably a minimum, but boy, you better win the World Series if you're going to offer that up for less than a year of a player. I don't think we would even with Machado so he's probably not a great trade fit for us.
  23. There's this guy named Kamara, not sure if folks have heard of him. I heard he's a pretty good RB. Kamara is great. That doesn't automatically make them a playoff team.
  24. Not as long as CC has a say... CC answers to Stearns, not the other way around, and if Counsell insists on keeping Sogard around, Stearns can and should tell him where to shove those Eric Sogard glasses.
