  1. Yes 0.6 when 2 is league average is way above replacement level. Baseball reference WAR is terrible so of course I don't use it. Even if you average them it has him above replacement level. You said easily. He would need to be approx. 4x better to be league average. He is way closer to replacement level than he is to average. 2 is average over the course of an entire season. Not 3/5 of a season or whatever they're at.
  2. Any chance we try to extend him right off the bat so it isn't a rental? I have no idea what his market would be. 2/10?
  3. I am fully expecting whoever the White Sox new closer is to blow back to back saves against the Cubs the next 2 games. Because that's just how things would seem to go for us.
  4. I'd like it a lot more if Swarzak was controlled beyond this season. If Swarzak pitches lights out the rest of the way and helps us into the playoffs, great deal. Otherwise, kind of a waste of an asset. I don't think he's going to be enough by himself.
  5. I'm almost certain that Beane and Stearns talked. Beane demanded Brinson be the headliner in any Gray deal to the Brewers. Attanasio and Stearns talked and decided that Brinson is off the table. Discussions between the Brewers and A's ceased as the Yankees etc. decided to go for it. I think Stearns is too open minded to really take any player 'off the table', but it's possible he values Brinson over Gray.
  6. I think they had this in mind with Garrett Cooper, though it hasn't worked out well so far. I can't really think of too many guys that are realistically at risk of not being protected who carry any significant value on their own other than a 3rd or 4th piece of a bigger trade.
  7. I'm also shocked to see Ortiz over both Woodruff and Burnes. I also missed whenever it was thst Hader lost prospect eligibility.
  8. Agreed. Not going after Gray and letting the Cubs jump up and grab Quintana is a clear message to the current roster: "You guys aren't good enough". Now wonder they're tanking badly since the break. Management doesn't believe in them, why should they? Wow. Because the Cubs jumped in with a deal that the White Sox couldn't refuse, 2 weeks before the vast majority of deals go down, even though he WAS deep in talks for Quintana -- it means Stearns doesn't believe in the team. So they just went out and stopped trying now and that's why they haven't been winning. The offensive slump is the fault of David Stearns. I was starting to come around on some of your stuff Briggs, but this has got to be a new low.
  9. They should start a baseball franchise run entirely by talk radio callers. Every week every caller thst gets on the air gets to vote on their next move. I'd be really excited to see how this franchise does.
  10. Sorry if this doesn't belong in its own thread, please move if needed. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=mil
  11. does he? As far as I know. I think you're misinterpreting the 130 day DL period as being cumulative over his contract, but I believe the wording of 'within a 183 day period' makes it clear that the extended DL period must be within the course of one season for the $1M option to be in play, not cumulative over the 4 seasons. I've checked the original article from MLB, Spotrac and Rotoworld and I haven't seen any evidence that there will be anything but a $5M team option for Garza next year.
  12. That's the way I always understood it. His $13M option won't be in play next season, nor his $1M option. He'll be a $5M player next year, here or somewhere else.
  13. Apparently not. Prospect paths are not always 'rake your way all the way up to the majors', but for some, if it's not awesome results in the last few months, they're future bench players. Heck, Lewis Brinson had a .277 OBP for the season in AA when he came over from Texas last year. Although with the struggles being almost across the board at High A, I can't help but wonder if they are going to take a very close look at the Carolina coaching staff after the season.
  14. Naturally Broxton reaches base 5 times in his first game down.
  15. That cheap option means Matt Garza is controllable x4 longer and helps with two postseason runs. I would consider that a pretty significant difference. Not to mention better stats. Not that I think the Brewers are even shopping Garza. He has been our 3rd best starter. Well it depends. If we tank against the Cubs and get swept and we're sitting 4 back at the deadline we absolutely should consider it. If things turn around and we somehow sweep the Cubs and regain a few game lead I'm sure we might have a little different perspective. Lot of things still up in the air in this last week.
  16. Go figure that Hot Streak Keon returns the minute he goes down to AAA.
  17. I guess. He's got a 4.30 ERA and 4.14 FIP this year which I would assume is about a league average starter. Probably would have been reasonably better than Junior Guerra for the rest of the season.
  18. Quite a buyer's market as far as rentals go. I really can't see much of a market for Garza after all if this was the market for Garcia. Although Garza does have that extra year of control next year
  19. He was selling then...that's always easier to do..when it comes to buying though...he hasn't really been in this position before...it's a different ball game. You have ot have the stomach/kahunas for it. So its easier to trade away established, beloved longtime players than it is to trade away unknown prospects? Not quite sure I follow your logic here. Seems that it would be the other way around, if anything. It seems like you're just kind of making it up as you go. You're coming across, as others have said, as a bitter, angry and illogical talk radio caller. I get that you're frustrated, we all are after this last week, but your criticisms of Stearns are just so over the top. If he hadn't gone out and found previous little-known guys like Shaw, Thames, and Anderson, all while rebuilding what was a broken farm system, we wouldn't even be in this position to be arguing about buying or selling. He's done a phenomenal job. That's pretty unanimous, and I'm kind of in awe really that anyone would even debate that.
  20. Unfortunately, this could be said of almost all of our pitching prospects that have the pleasure of pitching in Colorado Springs. 2019 can't come soon enough.
  21. Woodruff does not, uh, seem quite right yet.
  22. I would do a Ray, Diaz, Villar, Cordell and Supak for Dee and Ramos. I wonder if they would be interested in something like this. Holy smokes, I sure hope not. That looks more like a Sonny Gray package than a package for a good not great 2nd baseman and a 30 year old reliever with 1 more year of control.
  23. Not entirely true. If the Brewers can trade for someone who can help for the next 3+ years they should trade for them. Someone like Dee Gordon would be a good trade target kind of a win now and is signed through 2022 I believe at a fairly friendly contract. I would eliminate Gray and Verlander from the list along with a few others. Definitely no to relief pitchers. Dee Gordon is 29 already and can't hit. ? Gordon is 8th in the NL in hits this year, was suspended half of 2016, led the NL in hits in 2015 and was 5th in 2014. He can definitely hit, he just can't draw a walk.
  24. Honestly, if you told me right now that Gray gets traded in the next week, my money would still be on the Brewers. I'd handicap it something like 40% Brewers/40% the field/20% stays in Oakland at this point.
  25. Yea, really sounds like it. I'm sure your fellow Packers posters can't wait to hear your takes on the awfulness of Ted Thompson for the next 6 months , though.
