  1. I never really had a problem with Clancy believing Suter could be an MLB player. If I recall one of the recent times he rated him #1 he also called him a mid rotation guy. I just don't get how in a deep system our #1 guy isn't anything short of a potential All Star. If you are going to rate Suter #1 he better be a future ace in your mind. Too bad Clancy rates these unknowns way too high. If he rated them more like 15-20 range people might take them more seriously and be interested in his view. When you put them above 5 or so Top 100 prospects it's hard to even take seriously. Being aggressive when rating certain guys is fine just don't over do it. I love Monte Harrison and will rank him higher than most, but I won't rate him #1. Yeah, I think it's over the top, but I guess I understand that people have different ways of evaluating prospects, too. Which is more important when ranking prospects, ceiling, or floor? Obviously you take a prospect like Corey Ray, or Isan Diaz, and you've got a much higher ceiling than Suter. You've also got a much lower floor, since Suter is already contributing at the big league level, and there is a chance that Ray and Diaz never do. So I guess you could say that he just values floor that much, but I suppose Ronnie Gideon kind of throws that theory out the window.
  2. #1) No one ever, ever said that Broxton wouldn't be optioned at some point this season if he didn't pick up his game #2) You also said that Josh Hader wasn't moving from the rotation to the bullpen and you said that Stephen Vogt was a terrible acquisition. You also were a big advocate of Broxton turning it around early in the season and said Brinson needed more time. So don't go too crazy patting yourself on the back.
  3. You're the only one talking down to anyone, at this point. I brought up the studies based on years and years of historical data. I conceded that there are situations that would push that in the other direction, but as I said (and others have said), there's nothing about that situation and nothing that you have brought up that convince me that a sac bunt there increases our run probability that inning. As I have already said, I'm only stating my opinion based on the data, you're entitled to your own, so please do not accuse me again of being on a "high horse."
  4. Perez bunted horribly probably in part because he's not a very accomplished career sac bunter and thus not even a great candidate for the play. I can only bring up the data. I can't force you to accept it, you're entitled to believe what you like. Nothing you've brought up convinces me that the situation clearly leaned in that favor. Heads up that name-calling, which you did twice in this post, is not allowed in this forum. viewtopic.php?&t=4208
  5. His team got schulacked, but another decent outing for Freddy Peralta for Biloxi. 5 IP 2 R 6K.
  6. I'm sure you understand that I posted that in reference to you saying that the sac bunt was a great idea.
  7. Sounds like Mark would like to push in and Stearns said no and it was over. No I wouldn't say battle either. I simply posted the link here because it seemed like the most appropriate thread for it.
  8. Yeah, your argument makes zero sense whatsoever. Sorry. You're trying to bunt over a runner that you openly admit is slow, who is therefore less likely to get to 3rd successfully on a sac, and less likely to score on a sac fly, and you think that's an argument in your favor? K.
  9. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/brewers-vs-phillies/2017/07/22/491553#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=play-by-play,game=491553 There are years worth of data and many studies that pretty much prove that except for some very limited situations (not this one), sac bunting is dumb. Your odds of scoring a single run with a man on 3rd and 1 out is minisculy better, if better at all, than with a runner on 2nd and nobody out. Your odds of scoring multiple runs are diminished. All for a play that even has to be executed first before getting the opportunity, and execution rates have also gone down over the years. This isn't an emotional reaction based on the game. Its fairly scientific. Outs are just too precious to give away freely.
  10. Actually it was a great idea. Terrible execution. No, it really wasn't . Even if you execute well, which is clearly no certainty, you've got Shaw coming up who is a great hitter but definitely a high risk of a K with a man on 3rd and 1 out. Much rather take 3 chances with a man RISP than 2 with a man on 3rd IF you execute . And don't play for 1 run the way this pen has gone.
  11. The Phillies are a real MLB juggernaut, so we shouldn't be too discouraged.
  12. I know it's an emotional reaction, but if they blow this game I'm totally in sell mode. This is disgusting.
  13. Uh, John Perroto is a fairly respected sports journalist who has written for Baseball Prospectus and is a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America (meaning he casts HOF and annual MLB awards). I highly doubt he's getting his information from some random Twitter user. Whether or not you trust his credentials the information is not that hard to believe.
  14. Herrera has killed us in both series . But when you don't walk many guys like Suter, a lot more of your HRs are solo and don't hurt you so much.
  15. Yep. Its tough. You can try to have him play through everything, but we tried that earlier in the year and he was a totally liability in left and then re-aggravated the calf and missed a month. If we were in the American League this would be so much less of a problem.
  16. Anyone can cherry pick numbers to make someone look good. Or bad: .218 AVG 124 Ks His wRC+ is 83 second to last among qualified CFers. The long brutal slumps aren't worth the hot streaks. His defense also isn't anything to write home about. About time the Brewers stop trotting out a replacement level CFer. Maybe he can go figure something out in AAA. I still think there is some upside to him, but we can't be wasting time right now trying to find it as we compete. OPS is way, way more meaningful than batting average. Yes, Broxton has struggled this year and is arguably replacement level (actually 0.5 fWAR), but he was over a 2 WAR player in very limited ABs last year . The talent is clearly there. The argument was never over whether be deserves to go to AAA right now. I never disagreed with that. But overall he's not a garbage player, even if his recent streak has been. I don't know how to evaluate his defensive abilities. Last year, his range made him one of the best. This year has obviously not been up to par there. The range is still there but he's botching too many easy plays and making an abnormal amount of errors for a centerfielder.
  17. Fire every coach in Carolina. I'm only like 35% kidding . On the bright side, Hiura has not disappointed in Appleton .
  18. Most runs in a game since the first game back from the break. Now just lock Torres and Scahill in a broom closet to remove temptation.
  19. Braunie has been trashed pretty good on the forums today. Maybe we need to keep that up.
  20. Gotta be able to do the little things like execute good sac bunts when you're struggling to score runs.
  21. Surprised they didn't walk Rupp to load the bases for the pitcher with 1 out, but nice escape by Suter.
  22. I think the Brewers demoted Broxton because he is garbage. Brett Phillips is getting a chance because he was already here(since they prefer giving him sporadic playing time vs. Brinson) and in that sporadic playing time has looked competent. Now he will get to have lots of playing time and prove something to the Brewers. Showcasing a guy with no MLB experience for a week is not a great idea. right now, but "garbage?" Most normal players are going to look terrible trying to adjust. This is about Keon Broxton sucking and Brett Phillips getting a chance to capture the CF job. Could they trade Phillips? Sure. I don't think they are using this to market him though. I get it, Broxton has fallen off the cliff lately. I do hope, and I feel he can make it back. But he may never. What I do not get is you call him "garbage." Why the high level personal nasty attack? He is not at all good now, but c'mon, "garbage?" That is nasty and uncalled for. I agree with this. Yes he's been struggling badly and he's not right at the moment. He knows it. But even with that he's put together a 14 HR, 17 SB, and .725 OPS in just over half a season from the CF position. Those are far from terrible numbers. There are far worse players that survived on the MLB roster for longer. Calling him 'garbage' is way over the top. Keon was sent down because he has options and we have options. If he didn't or we didn't he wouldn't be going anywhere. If we had to DFA him and place him on waivers he'd be claimed by another team in a heartbeat.
