  1. Yeah, I have a hard time seeing Braun still here next opening day. His value isn't going to get higher, we're rebuilding, and his 10/5 rights next season will give him total control over a trade, giving us even more reason to get something done now. Without knowing who the minor leaguers that LA was including, the fact that Puig was part of the deal and it doesn't sound like we had to eat much salary, makes it seem as though it was a competitive offer.
  2. I am not overly worried about the catching position right now. I actually think Susac will end up being at least a league average starting catcher. Anyhow, we're at a point of talent acquisition right now, nothing more. When it's 2019 and we're winning 90 games and putting out terrible catchers, then I'll start worrying about the position.
  3. I would assume that Sling's is the NFL Network affiliated one offered by Dish and the cable companies. I think the Directv one is exclusive to them, but I've had both and have no preference between the 2.
  4. It's basically just a giant game of chicken with the cable/satellite companies once a year. To answer your other question you can get Red zone on Sling with the 10 dollar sports add on.
  5. I think there was a Brewer switch hitting pitcher years back that was bad enough from one side that the Brewers basically told him, 'Yeah, you're not a switch hitter anymore.' Carlos Villanueva maybe?
  6. I find it hard to second guess the Davis deal. At the time Nottingham was seen as a pretty good prospect and few of us were upset with the deal. Davis has a 1.6 WAR compared to 1.4 last season, making him marginally more valuable in 2016 than Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been. I find it hard to believe that the marginal improvement this year from Davis combined with the less control he'd have going into this offseason makes his value anything more than very slightly more than what Nottingham and Derby were worth at the time. If there's a GM out there willing to overpay to a big extent based solely on power and nothing else, we need to introduce him to Chris Carter at the winter meetings.
  7. Yeah, according to a Dodger source, the Brewers and Dodges are likely to revisit Braun/Puig in the offseason. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/09/cafardos-latest-sox-dozier-votto-jays-puig-braun.html
  8. Looking back at the midseason lists I might actually be with you guys on Phillips now...I had thought he was already near the back of the list, but he was still in the 50s and 60s depending on which list you go by. So he may hang around yet, I'd guess low 70s, high 80s, but if Clark isn't penalized out for his year, Phillips probably shouldn't be either at a higher level with good power and decent on-base numbers.
  9. Just for fun, a 2017 roster for under 20M bucks, made up of solely pre-arbitration players: Lineup in no particular order: 2B Villar SS Arcia 3B Perez C Susac CF Brinson LF Broxton RF Phillips 1B Santana Bench: OF Liriano, OF Cordell, C Pina, IF Rivera, IF Cecchini Rotation: Hader, Guerra, Davies, Jungmann, Anderson Bullpen: Barnes, Knebel, Blazek, Cravy, Suter, Marinez, Barrios Braun, Gennett, Thornburg, Garza, Torres, Nelson, Carter, all traded. Maldonado, Peralta, Nieuwenhuis, and other lower names I might have missed, all traded/non-tendered. I took some leaps here, like with Phillips up after a tough year in Biloxi, though it's possible going on 23 next season, they might just want to see what they got there. Also Santana at 1st simply because I couldn't find a better option. Obviously this doesn't include the presumably big return of new guys we'd get for Braun and Thornburg especially. I couldn't determine with certainty whether Anderson is pre-arby or Super 2 next year, if he's Super 2, put Wang in that spot. This would obviously never happen, and this team would certainly not contend, at least this early, but it'd be a fun team to watch. Either way it says a lot about how far we've come rebuilding already to even be able to put together a plausible 25 man roster made up solely of 0-3 players.
  10. Next year I doubt I'll pay for Sunday Ticket if they won't at least do 50% off. My team is the Packers and in market so I really don't need Sunday Ticket that badly. I would really miss the Red zone channel though. I wonder if there is a way to just get Red zone from them without buying Sunday ticket. I think Sling now offers local channels, red zone, and Fox Sports, which is a game changer IMO.
  11. I think there were some ready to give Braun away for nothing a year ago just to get him off the books and get rid of the injury/distraction factor. I know not everyone felt that way. He's had a big rebound year and has regained much of his value. I'd caution against waiting too long and ending up with an injured player on a bad contract. It wouldn't take much. Not to mention he will acquire 10/5 rights next year and be that more difficult to trade. I agree that McCarthy is basically just included as the salary we have to eat, and 23M and getting a decent vet pitcher for it and a 25 year old with star upside isn't a bad deal IMO, regardless of who the minor leaguers are. If you're in the camp that thinks Braun will stay healthy and produce in 2019 and 2020, by all means hold out for the deal we want. But if you believe we need to deal him eventually, I wouldn't wait past this offseason, even if we don't get the king's ransom of prospects that we would hope for. His stock is sitting on the high end of the scale right now. It could get a little higher, but it could get a lot lower.
  12. I'm curious what you need to see from someone to think they have a top of the rotation ceiling. I agree with you on Suter, but Woodruff led all of minor league baseball (every league, every level) in strikeouts this year and had numerous reports of him touching 98. If that's not TOR-type stuff, what is? Very fair points. Every scouting report I've ever read on Woodruff projects him more as a back end guy if he ends up in the rotation. I was under the impression that he typically only touches the high 90s pitching out of the pen, but sits in the low 90s out of the rotation. If he does indeed end up as a surprise (at least a surprise to me) TOR that would certainly be thrilling for the organization.
  13. 9. Brinson - I think his late surge in Colorado Springs coupled with some graduations should push him into the top 10. 30. Hader - Hard to predict too much of a jump with his numbers in AAA, but he was better for the Sky Sox than the numbers show. 32. Ray - Didn't really do much to improve on his post-draft stock, but he wasn't overwhelmed in Brevard, which was good to see. 45. Ortiz - Brought on slowly, but showed in Biloxi why he was targeted in the Lucroy deal. 59. Bickford - Should be arguably the most interesting arm to watch in AA next year, in my opinion. 76. Woodruff - Surprise! Or is it? This is a massive jump for Brandon, but after completely dominating hitters in Biloxi, how can he be left out? 91. Diaz, I - Diaz admittedly is one of my personal favorites, but he's flashed the upside we've hoped for when we traded Segura. After a horrible start, he destroyed the ball most of the rest of the year in Appleton, displaying uncanny power for a middle infielder. 98. Clark - Had a so-so season, but unlike Phillips, who I have dropping out, I think Clark's late season improvement and high OBP save his spot in the top 100 for now. I realize that these kinds of lists remain fluid in the offseason (fall, winter ball, trades), but with the season winding down and the focus on our farm system I thought it would be fun to start talking about what our 2017 lists might look like.
  14. You go on win streak and losing streaks...it is how the game works. I understand that as I explained in more detail 3 posts ago.
  15. I wish they'd get rid of umpires calling balls and strikes and just let the machines take over. This one is obviously expanding the zone late. I can't imagine how frustrating things like that are for a player.
  16. Just curious but what exactly are you expecting? The current players are what they are. They are doin their best to win games and perform well. Unfortunately they are not good enough to consistently win. But on the flip side, they don't suck enough to always lose. It is what it is. I thought it was apparent it was tongue in cheek but maybe not. What I mean is I wish we'd either stay hot or just tank out and get a top 5 pick. I'm not sure which to root for -- and I'm not saying I've ever rooted for us to lose or would. Just torn as a fan and wish they would stay consistent one way or another. I do realize there's reasons that's not happening.
  17. Knebel has been pretty bad for us. You have to stick with him on the roster because he's controllable and has late inning stuff, but he has not been fun to watch this year.
  18. I wish we would just figure out already if we are going to win games or be playing for draft position and stop seemingly doing both.
  19. One run only ties it and a hit gives up the lead. So just get the out. If they played infield in there they're down 2-1 right now. I don't think so, looked like it would have been right at him. Anyway, that's the game, 2-1 anyway.
  20. I can't see blaming Elmore, he had to make sure it fell. Sedar never should have sent him, NEVER! As soon as he saw Elmore hesitate, Sedar should have known not to send him. If we become competitive again in the future, Ed Sedar needs a demotion or an out and out firing. It has been this way for years with no improvement. We can't count on him to make good decisions when the games actually count. It was pretty obviously a basehit all the way. Elmore has to have pretty terrible instincts to need to freeze or go back on that. I agree though that Sedar is terrible and needs to go.
  21. Horrible baserunning by Elmore, and per usual, horrible decision by Sedar.
  22. What is with this pitching staff and walking opposing pitchers?
  23. I'm actually with Rock on this. The Cardinals official scorer really sucks.
  24. How's this for a time lapse, Nolan Ryan had already had his MLB debut 2 years before Mickey Mantle retired, and retired just a few months before the debut of Alex Rodriguez.
