  1. Can't complain about the call. He wasn't calling that spot in the top half either.
  2. How's the weather looking Dead Simmons? Expect any trouble with delays tonight?
  3. Isn't that what a lot of sports discussion is about? Isn't that part of the fun of being a sports fan...trying to predict how different transactions, injuries, etc will effect your team? What the manager will do. What the lineups will be. Who will play where. There are several threads in this forum based on predictions (Brewre record in a certain month or for the year, playoff predictions). I don't see how predicting the ramifications of a trade is any different. You don't have to agree with any or all of the conclusions that people are making regarding the trade and you are always free to come up with your own conclusions, but I don't see any harm in trying to guess how the addition of a new player to the roster will affect playing time of current players. Exactly. That's all we can really do now is speculate since we haven't played an inning since the trade.
  4. So you make a strawman reference, then proceed to say that "we're really pissed about a LH bat that's much better than Schafer." Nice. Anyway, I was responding to post #198 where 3and2 suggested a platoon. So yeah, it was directly suggested. I am not pissed about having Parra. I just don't want this to turn Davis into a part-time player. Beyond the numbers, we should also consider that Davis is a player on the rise and Parra is not (I know they are only a year apart, but they are at vastly different points in their careers) I don't want our 2 best power hitters to be part time players.
  5. Davis is a player on the rise. He has, for the most part, done everything we could have hoped. He has an OPS near .800 and he is always near the top of the team in power. Now you want a straight platoon with Davis basically now only starting once every 4-5 days?
  6. If the Brewers need to rest Braun twice a week this team is in trouble. Once evey ten -12 days but not twice a week Exactly. I don't mind having Parra. I mind proactively trying to get him ABs over 3 outfielders that are simply better hitters. Braun, Gomez, and Davis should get exactly the same amount of time off that they would have gotten before the trade, no more.
  7. It looks like Segura compares very well with none other than Alcides Escobar. Both are light hitting SS's with little power that carry a low OBP, but have speed as a weapon if they get on base. Both are rangy defensive SS's with a strong arm that help make up for their offensive deficiencies. Segura probably would have been wise to take the "safe" long-term deal buying out arbitration as Escobar did to set him up for life. At the end of the day, we're not missing Escobar. Segura is younger and obviously now cost-controlled for longer. We're missing Odorizzi more than Escobar.
  8. Maybe, but nearly all of those great players fell onto top 100 prospect lists at one time. Haniger doesn't fit that description and has never been in the discussion. Haniger was a 1st round (sandwich) pick. It's far too early to say what his ceiling is, but you generally don't draft players in the top 40 with the thought process that their upside is limited to a bench role at best at the MLB level. I can't say for sure what his highest ranking was as a prospect, but I don't recall Lucroy being particularly highly regarded. I think he was seen as a guy with the upside to perhaps be good at everything and excellent at nothing, with a more likely outcome of being an average everyday catcher at the MLB level.
  9. Don't undervalue Haniger just because some prospects flame out. I remember back in '08 people musing that they hoped the PTBNL wasn't Lucroy with some saying "Who cares?? We got CC!" Tell me how that would be working out for us now in hindsight. All great players were once "prospects".
  10. Braun just mentioned the other day that he is finally feeling healthy. I'm not saying he won't get a day or two off the rest of the way, but he hasn't had a day off since the AS break and hasn't needed one. And that's been about 3 weeks. And Gomez had a day off exactly one day in the second half last year. He missed a 6 day stretch with an injury, a 2 game stretch with an injury, and another game for a suspension. Braun and Gomez getting 1-2 days off every 10 days is a huge stretch. If they're healthy, it won't be a reality, nor should it be. Barring injuries he should start 2-3 games every 10, mostly for Davis and always against RHP. Plus perhaps some pinch hitting and an occasional defensive replacement.
  11. Why? Gomez and Braun are, by all accounts, completely healthy. Other than maybe 1 day off each the rest of the way, what reason would we ever have to try to give Braun or Gomez less ABs? I would sure hope we didn't trade for a .667 OPSing outfielder to steal ABs away from 2 of our best hitters.
  12. Since they didn't bring him in to be an everyday starter (unless there's an injury), what else is there and what else did you think the Brewers needed in him? Well, as long as they didn't bring him in to start which you claim, its not that I'm seriously against it. Its that Parra doesn't do much for me. I'd look at any game which Parra starts as a downgrade since one of the 3 starters sits. Parra makes more sense at the beginning instead of Schafer. I'm not sure what he really offers now. If healthy, how many more days off do you think Braun and Gomez are going to get the rest of the way? Hopefully none to very few, or we're in trouble. Parra is injury insurance in the OF, a good 4th OF and bench bat, and maybe a late defensive replacement to Davis. Not much else. Its not that I don't think Parra is worth having, just that to me, an upgrade at 1st and infield depth over Bianchi/Herrera is a higher priority. I understand there just might not be much available.
  13. Khris Davis is OPS'ing more than 100 points over Parra and has significantly more power than Parra. I certainly don't see how losing his starts vs RHP to Parra makes us better than we were before the trade.
  14. So we got a rich man's Logan Schafer. Good bench bat and OF defense but not much else.
  15. Nelson won't qualify for Super 2. He'll have 3 full years yet before arby. That's part of the reason we waited as long as we did. Nelson isn't a 5. If he's pitching like a 5, call him a 5, sure. It would have been fair a year ago to call Peralta a 5 with #1/#2 potential. But not everyone struggles like a 5 out of the gate before putting it together. Can't assume that Nelson won't yet, but unfair to assume he will. Gallardo was more or less a #2 from day 1 and has been his entire career.
  16. Not that we will probably do anything anyway, but I would seriously question Roenicke's sanity if he went with that murderers row of lefties against a power lefty (Herrera may be a switch hitter I believe)
  17. That first line doesn't nearly tell the whole story. They play in a division that is currently a lot weaker than ours and have stormed back in it by going 21-5 in July. If we were on that kind of run right now to get back in it, would you be aadvocating a fire sale? I'm guessing definitely not.
  18. We are making this an easy decision for the Rays by letting them continue their winning ways. They have no motivation to trade Price unless they get blown away. Nelson, Coulter, and Thornburg doesn't blow them away. Nor should it.
  19. I was just saying I think it's likely they'll panic and sell the farm to make a blockbuster to "go for it" this year and set us back a few years after.
  20. So maybe we get Price, Wainwright, and Lester 3 nights in a row. That should help us turn things around.
  21. Surprise, all we're doing is gushing about how good Cobb was tonight. Guess what, it's MLB and pitching rules right now. You're either good enough to hit good pitching or you're not. We've got a murderers row of pitching coming up. I'm not saying you can expect to light up aces for 8 runs, but if you can't do better than 1 run and 3 hits against good pitching, you're not a playoff caliber team. Period.
  22. 1 run and 3 hits for the second straight night and the first thing Narron gets asked is about Reynolds laying down his first sac bunt since 2008 and getting a run that way. Could the Milwaukee sports media be any softer?
  23. You're not swinging hard enough, Gomez. That's your problem.
  24. Its the Brewer special once again tonight. 1 run and 3 hits.
  25. Its the Brewer special once again tonight. 1 run and 3 hits.
