  2. What would be great is if we pass the Giants and win the Central. (If we win the WC we're playing at Philly). It is easier to beat Philly in 5 than 7. That means there would be a chance for the Giants to knock off the Phillies. We would have the home field all three rounds of the playoffs and wouldn't have to face the best team in the NL. That is the dream scenario. I just want to get back to the playoffs.
  3. Not spelling his name (one of his names) is not the same as not knowing that he plays center field, shows a lot of hustle, and has been the key to some rallies and wins this year. That is the kind of introduction he will get. Let us know how it goes. At the last one Lucroy got some slack for saying his favorite road city is Chicago. Plush saved him by saying he loves playing at Wrigley since he always seems to hit well against the Cubs and loves beating them.
  4. Fielder has more moonshots, is the emotional leader of the team, and he performed well at the ASG. Those all influence the writers. I think it will come down to who ends the season hotter and who comes up with the big RBI's. On the Brewer's website, it highlights the Fielder winner from yesterday. Fielder hit the game winning single, but Braun set it up with the leadoff double. RBI's will equal votes.
  5. The Astros may want to trade him after the game starts. The Brewers would not have him available against them.
  6. We would need to trade Yuni, otherwise DPR would just use Barmes as a backup.
  7. You sit at your table and are fed. The honored guests (ballplayers) will eventually sit at the front of the .300 club with their back to the field. Try to get there before your tablemates and sit at the end of the table closest to them. We got there last and sat in the seats furthest from the ledge. We could not see the main table. Near the end of the meal, Provus will "introduce" (we are all season ticket holders and know who they are) the players and ask some softball questions. Then it becomes an open Q&A session.
  8. I just make sure I run slow enough to never warrant a slide.
  9. I think it was ok for Jon to try to take 3rd. If the throw isn't cut off, he strolls into 3rd. If it is cut off, there is 0 percent chance Yun-E is called out at the plate. I think that was what he was thinking.

Why would they change that because the 5 hole hitter goes down? I predict:HartMorganBraunFielderMcGehee (he's hot!)BetancourtCounsell/WilsonLucroy (catchers only hit 8th) Get well Rickie!
  11. Wandy might be similar to Betancourt. We have to take him if we want the other guy (in this case it would be Barmes instead of Grienke). Otherwise picking up a starter (especially an older, established starter) seems odd. But of course we had Ax so i didn't think we'd go out and get the best closer available, either.

Because that's what happens when average talent is acquired by the Cardinals. And knowing the Cards, I wouldn't be surprised if Rasmus's best production is behind him. And Patterson will OPS >.850 for the rest of the year.
  13. I believe it is a Fox philosophy that viewers will feel a more emotional bond with the game if they see the emotions of the crowd. If it was just field shots, the viewer would feel like he's watching a video game or other contrived form of entertainment. If the viewer sees lots of shots of the crowd, they feel more like they are there and are part of the crowd. I don't know how true it is, but that is their belief. It does kind of make sense. When I'm at the game, I do spend time looking at the people around me. And I know there are plenty of people that are at the game that barely pay attention to it. Like the lady who got up five times to leave the section and only did so during an at bat last night. It would make sense that they would want the broadcast to do other non-baseball things (like scan the crowd) between pitches. Heck, Uecker will go off on a non-baseball tangent during some of the slower paced spots.
  14. Putting two or three guys on base every inning will lead to more stress on the pitcher. It will also cause the pitch count to get up there and the relief pitcher (who isn't good enough to start) to come into the game. I consider any long at bats a good plate appearance. That is how you beat Gallardo. Yo tries to get you to swing at pitches out of the zone. Even if you don't put up any runs, he is out of the game after 6. Now you can hit the soft underbelly of any team, the middle relief. Yes. It gets to the top of the lineup that much faster. It leads to more pitches on the pitcher. And it means the pitcher isn't leading off an inning. I want my 8 hitter to draw walks, if they are offered. Yes, there is a skill in it. Otherwise Yuni would draw as many as Prince. You have to be patient enough to look for a pitch that you think you can drive. Some people will swing at anything they think they can hit with their bat. Some people are so afraid of a strikeout they would rather make contact with the first pitch they can. Some people have the skill of looking for a specific pitch and only swinging at that pitch. Some people are not afraid to be in the box with two strikes. I don't think anyone is saying they want 8 hitters who only walk. It's the realization that we can't have 8 Fielders or Brauns. We'll need to fill in with some players that have deficiencies in their game. A guy who has a high OBP/low SLG is a better offensive threat than the guy with a low OBP/high SLG. There are specific instances where the latter would give you better results, but over the course of the season the former will lead to more wins.
  15. Russ, which stat do you prefer? I know OPS isn't the be all end all, but it's the best I got when I'm at the game. Once a homestand I have to hear people complain about it being on the board because it's such a "worthless" stat. They usually use the old Avg/HR/RBI to evaluate hitters and have no idea what a WHIP is.
  16. I will not be able to go to the Thursday Cubs game. Section 104 (bleachers) row 1, 2 seats. The "Marquee" value is $30 each. I just want a Brewer fan who will not resell them to get them, so I'm accepting the best offer (within reason).
  17. Plus 100 rep points. I actually used to hate this. Then I read this and try to do it all the time.
  18. I've sold tickets on StubHub. If the tickets are bought, the seller pays a hefty fee to not go through with the sale. The only tickets listed are ones that are "in hand" and are ready to sell. I think it is a perfectly safe way to buy tickets.
  19. They would have to do some renovations to get the camera in a better position. The batter's eye (and scoreboard supports) would need some remodeling to make that happen.
  20. I'm bumbed about the NFL free agency. Instead of hearing the latest rumors about baseball trades at the deadline, we'll only hear about the NFL. I was hoping they weren't going to play this year.
  21. If you watch Plush play, he does that every time he makes the second out. I've seen him do it towards Hart and Braun at home. That's just his quirky way of doing it. He just did it real fast and sloppy this time because of the adrenaline he felt from the fans. I'd be shocked if the PA isn't able to get any suspension revoked. He may be sat down and talked to about coming up with something else, but I don't think anything else will come of it.
  22. I was sad this past fall when I found out my favorite web radio (beethoven.com) had become a pay site. I usually only listen to local Milwaukee stations on the web. My office is in the middle of the factory and has a hard time picking up stations. I'm in IT so I just consume the extra bandwidth without anyone complaining.
  23. The Cards series had empty seats, and now we find out that a week before a Cubs game there are at least 5000 seats left. Maybe the "Marquee" upcharge isn't working like they wanted. That might have led to the decision to test the variable pricing.
  24. Thank God. I never could figure out what the hell that nickname meant, but I was too embarrassed to ask. Now I know. Thank you, sir. Simile: true = !falseas to3TO = !BIP (Balls In Play) Convert Brother!
