  1. If you're looking for another team to support other than Fulham, feel free to check out the Blackburn Rovers. I've been a casual fan of them for a while because of Brad Friedel, but when I had Fox Soccer Channel for a year, I became a die-hard. They seem to be another one of those blue-collar teams that's not going to breeze through the tables, but will fight for every point they get. It should be interesting to see what happens now that Mark Hughes left. As for Euro Cup, I'm pulling for Portugal as well despite the fact that I can't stand Ronaldo. Ricardo is probably my favorite non-American keeper, though, and I think they have a very good shot of advancing and doing some serious damage after pool play.
  2. I missed the 1st half, but the second half of the Swiss/Czech game was pretty exciting. The Swiss might have gotten screwed out of a chance to tie it with a penalty kick (only the 1st time, the "handball" late in the game wasn't worthy of a call, IMO). But then again, they had quite the advantage going for them after the Czech player handled it, with two chances that were probably at least as good as a penalty kick would be. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't finish. I guess that's just the way it goes.
  3. I think it's Chase Utley by a wide margin. Hamilton's behind him by a good chunk in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage, and Utley has basically the same average. Throw in the fact that Utley's at a more premium position, and I don't think it's really very close at all.
  4. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e348/skjellyfetti/Sundance.jpg I drove this beauty in high school (a 1987 sky blue Plymouth Sundance). She still holds a special place in my heart.
  5. He also did the exact same thing with NC fans at the Duke-UNC game a couple weeks ago, IIRC.
  6. I can play some devil's advocate here. I don't understand how people can rip on Devean George for not wanting to go through the huge hassle of moving because he got traded against his wishes. I don't blame the guy, I'm willing to guarantee he's not doing this because he thinks he's a good player, but to do what's perfectly in his rights to stay in Dallas. People in Dallas who want to blame him should realize that Jason Kidd is extremely old and thank George for keeping him away. And Devin Harris definitely is at least as good of an option as Kidd. What Kidd brings in assists, he completely offsets with his terrible shooting percentage. Harris still has a very good A/T ratio and can score/shoot. Throw in the fact that he's a lot younger than Kidd, and this trade would be stupid if it were straight up, much less with all the other stuff Dallas threw in.
  7. I was at Barnes and Noble on the west side of Madison this weekend and saw an MLB rulebook hidden in the baseball section there. It might be worth a call to a Barnes and Noble to see if they have it in stock.
  8. I'm with all the Matt Lepay supporters. I think he does a great job of giving all the pertinent information while also getting excited when a fan should be getting excited. I think Mike Lucas does a great job supporting him as the color guy. He seems to know his stuff and they work well together as a pair. I'm not a Packer fan, but I really can't stand Wayne Larrivee. His voice bothers me for some reason. I know he gets excited and everything, but I feel like he's the one who goes overboard, not Matt Lepay. I am also not a Brian Anderson fan. I think that he's too matter-of-fact with how he calls the game, and I get pretty bored with his calls. Maybe I'm just spoiled from not having cable for most of my life and getting to listen to Bob and Jim more often (or maybe it's BA's bad color partner), but I have a hard time getting excited about the Brewers' television announcing crew.
  9. That's too bad. I guess my avatar is pretty useless now. Oh well, Mike Cameron pretty much sealed the deal that the Brewers wouldn't be going after Ensberg. I do think this was a pretty good move by the Yankees. He could be a very good bat to have off the bench or playing some first base.
  10. I can't stand bowling alleys that don't bother to oil their lanes often just because they can get away with it.
  11. I had a minor meniscus problem a few years ago, and that sounds a lot like what I experienced. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a doctor and seeing what's up.
  12. IMO, no manager puts their players in a favorable situation more often than Tony La Russa, I would want him to manage a rebuilding team because of that. One criticism I have of Tony LaRussa is how he managed the Chris Duncan situation this year. It seemed pretty obvious that Duncan was their 2nd best hitter (by far), but LaRussa constantly gave similar amounts of playing time to the other outfield scrubs on the roster. From a non-St. Louis perspective, it seemed kind of ridiculous to me. I personally feel that LaRussa had at least something to do with Duncan's prolonged slump because of his refusal to continue to give him regular at-bats. I think this would go hand-in-hand with his reputation for being a bit of an over-manager.
  13. Congratulations, Russ! It's good to hear that everyone's healthy and that she recognizes true Brewer talent.
  14. Sorry, I forgot to mention my soccer team. Those familiar with the EPL will recognize my avatar as the logo of the Blackburn Rovers. They're by far my favorite soccer team, all because of Brad Freidel.
  15. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e348/skjellyfetti/lrg-1169-waltharrisslideshow.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e348/skjellyfetti/Michigan-Wolverines-Jeep-JK-Wrangle.jpg I've been a 49ers fan from a very young age. I'm not completely sure why, but I think it had something to do with their success when I was an impressionable little kid and their sweet uniforms--how can one not love the red and gold (actually gold, not an ugly yellow color that for some reason is called gold by a certain NFL team in the Midwest) as displayed above?. I used to kinda dig the packers as a second team behind the Niners, but now I just can't stand the packers that much. I don't necessarily root against them, just don't generally root for them. As for Michigan, I'm pretty sure I became a fan of them when I was about 3 years old. I decided to like Michigan because my mom went to Ohio State, and, wanting nothing to do with that nasty team that she cheered for, I chose the maize and blue as my team. I have since backed off the Michigan love a little bit as I am a UW student, and I am now more of a Badger fan than a Wolverine fan (that was a tough conversion at first, though). But I still cheer for Michigan when they're not playing the Badgers, particularly in football. And I hate Ohio State. Man do I hate them.
  16. I don't understand how being on a playoff team in a smaller market (relative to the Yankees) could possibly be considered "low-pressure". If your team is in the playoffs, with the playoffs being how they are, everyone has a chance to win and expects to go out and win. How playing for a title in Seattle or Texas could be considered any easier than playing for a title in New York is beyond me. Also, even if this premise were to be taken as true, there should be a lot more pressure on A-Rod in the regular season as well, no? Especially with how bad the Yanks have started off the past few years, they've had plenty of pressure on them to perform at the top of their game just to make the playoffs. Yet A-Rod never folded there. He played some amazing baseball as a Yankee. I just don't understand how it could be assumed that he just folds under pressure in the playoffs but not under arguably the same amount of pressure if not more during the regular season.
  17. Between April and mid-September, he was fattening up on a whole lotta Oriole, Blue Jay and Devil Ray pitching. I don't think that really had much to do with anything. He can (and did) hit just about everybody. However, when even the best players fail over half the time, it's pretty easy to put together rough strings against anybody. For example, from July 23 until August 1, the Yankees played Kansas City, Baltimore, and the Chicago White Sox, three terrible teams. A-Rod went 3-31 in those games, even against crap teams. A-Rod also went 10-27 with 5 homers in a stretch in April against Cleveland and Boston, two teams with very good pitching. My point with these examples is that one can cherry pick whatever stretches they want in a season to find good stretches against good pitching and bad stretches against bad pitching. While your theory would seem to make sense, I can find stretches like the above two mentioned to show that it's not really the case. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't make much sense to say that one of the best players of all time doesn't deserve a big contract based on 30-some random at-bats.
  18. I don't really think there's anything to his struggles. While he may look lost at the plate, he's still walking a bunch, so he can't be too lost. I also feel that the term "looking lost at the plate" tends to apply to just about everyone in some stretch at some point. For example, many stated that Rickie Weeks was looking lost at the plate in his bad stretch earlier, and look how he bounced back. I think it's just that everyone is cold sometimes and hot sometimes.
  19. Woah! Melvin didn't say that; Drew Olson speculated it. Or am I missing something? I don't think you're missing anything. I think the short leash thing is getting run away with when it has been nothing but random speculation from a sportswriter (to the best of my knowledge). I wouldn't really give much credence to the short leash stuff. From post 1143, the first mention of "short leash": We at Saturday Scorecard believe that Yost will return in '08, but will be on a very short leash. If the team doesn't play well in the first half, he could be replaced. -Drew Olsen
  20. Hall also was top 10 in out of zone plays, though. That makes me feel that there's a good chance for him to become a really solid CFer seeing as how last year was his first year playing there. Also, I think Hart could play CF just as well as Hall did last year, but I think Hall has more defensive upside in center.
  21. Good point...I had only checked the major league forum earlier, so I didn't know if it was just in that one thread or not. But it appears that the wrong time phenomenon is occuring everywhere. Edit: Itcould have something to do with where one logs in from, because I'm on a different computer than earlier, and the time is right.
  22. For some reason, in the Major league forum (specifically the Prince blasts the fans thread), replies are being posted out of order. Some users' replies are being listed as happening an hour before they actually happened, and so they are actually showing up before certain posts that they may be replying to. It seems kind of messed up.

  24. I would love to have Bonds's stick in the lineup. He would be another masher in a stacked lineup while also bringing his astronomical On-base ability to a team that really needs it. However, he would also hurt the Brewer defense quite a bit, so I'll still be content when he goes to the AL somewhere.
  25. I'm pretty sure you won the tickets, you just have to buy them. I don't think they gave out more "opportunities" than available seats.
