  1. That might have been the last time we see Giannis in a Bucks jersey. End of an era. Just praying that injury isn’t what it looked like…
  2. At some point Rosenthal is going to get what’s coming to him and I’m going to love every second of it. Maybe someone will hot mic him…and there’s a deep drive to left by Castellanos…
  3. There have been a number of mainstream articles written about the accounting used to keep the hardware investments from looking like giant losses on the balance sheets. At some point the hardware investments will slow down and the productivity gains and profits will kick in. If that doesn’t phase well, we’re going to have problems. To me it feels like the dot com bubble with a mix of 2008-era accounting thrown in. It’s easy to see why people might be nervous, even if the long term prognosis on AI is optimistic. Nobody knows what might pop the bubble. This could go on for years.
  4. Bitcoin is most likely getting hit by higher electricity prices as some miners are liquidating and transitioning to AI data center services. A natural consequence of halving combined with the AI explosion.
  5. Investor confidence is finally weakening. I’m more entertained by the MSTR/Bitcoin death spiral right now.
  6. We'll see. In many ways this is a trial period for 2028 when MLB will put everything for sale at once. The Mariners were not on MLB.tv locally last year, they were still using their own RSN and a terrible streaming app to go along with it. So it might get better.
  7. When I first moved out of Wisconsin about 15 years ago I remember going back and seeing my friends/family and being like "holy **** I used to talk like that?!?!?!" I especially was shocked by hearing the ones who lived up north, which I agree is clearly distinctive from the larger cities. Charlie Berens (who happens to be a high school classmate of mine) has a good bit on how he discovered his Wisconsin accent when he started out in the news biz. Now that I'm out west, the easiest way to spot Midwesterners is to ask them to pronounce Oregon. They all say "Or-ee-gon" instead of "Ory-gun". Personally I hold on to "bubbler" which is awesome but the rest is long gone.
  8. How many MLB stadiums are left with a sea of parking lots, minimal transit access, and minimal walkable amenities? Kauffman and Dodger Stadium are the only two that I can think of. I wish the Brewers would have moved their corporate offices to this development rather than the ugly renovation that takes away seating. The options are interesting. A is pretty cool with the river-focused development. B preserves the view of the stadium from the highway. C is the most stadium-focuses + visibility for the businesses from the highway, with the tailgating area on the east side of the river. If I was going to open a business I would strongly prefer C because of the I-94 visibility and proximity to the stadium. C also removes the flood concerns with the river. So I would expect that's what will get picked.
  9. Resident Mariners fan take: the Mariners basically had to sign Naylor or their fans would have revolted. They had a lot of available budget + a commitment from ownership to increase payroll from 2025 + some young guys who can fill their other holes at 2B and 3B + are in desperate need of low-strikeout contact hitters like Naylor who can hit in their anti-Coors ballpark. Haven't seen the dollar figure yet but will surely be in excess of $100M. Personal prediction is that in 3-4 years the Naylor contract ends up with a better $/WAR value than whatever Alonso signs for. Obviously the Brewers should stay far away from expensive 1B contracts.
  10. Hmm, this quarterback appears to have some skills. And some good play calling is helping.
  11. Don't go. Don't renew season tickets. Send a message.
  12. This is horrifying and probably accurate. Is Tony Evers a football fan? 😂
  13. That solidifies my decision about the rest of the athletic department. Time to fire above him.
  14. Is that true? I’m pretty sure they take specific numbers back for counter offers. They may not disclose details but presumably they negotiate in good faith.
  15. Our knowledge of his medicals gives us a big advantage (assuming the prognosis is favorable). But if we extend a 2 year offer and he shops it around, it may signal to other teams that we feel good about his medicals. So I think he comes back to the Brewers because he's happy here and he's willing to take a slight discount -- unless somebody blows him away with something that we can't come close to matching.
  16. I have a hunch that Woody will be back with us on a 2-year deal unless somebody like the Mets offers him a lucrative 3 year deal. If he signs a 2-year deal with someone else I think that will signal that we don't think he will return to being a front end starter.
  17. It sounds like Skubal is on the market and the Red Sox, Mets, and Mariners are on the short list of interested teams. On one hand this is competition but if he sets a high price it gives the opportunity for one of the losing bidders to be interested in Peralta. Personally I’d love to see what our pitching lab could do with Cijntje if the Mariners are willing to part with him.
  18. I went from Fubo to YTTV to Hulu in the past 3 years. Personally I’m not willing to chase games on random streaming platforms. We have Netflix, Prime, and Apple TV. If it’s not on Hulu or one of those then I’m not watching. I think there was an MLB game on Roku and I remember I just said forget it to that one. I’m glad I don’t really watch the NFL…
  19. I'd expect a repeat of 21-22. I'd be shocked if they didn't play 162 games in 2027, all of what we're hearing right now is posturing.
  20. For whatever reason this World Series has captured the neutral sports viewer. There are going to be a lot of eyes on the game tonight, it’s surely going to be the most watched baseball game since game 7 in 2016 and possibly longer.
  21. I’m only allowed to have one STR which is pretty smart policy and keeps the market from over-saturating. Seattle is one of the few places on the west coast that has actually built a fair bit of housing in the past 10 years, so long term renting isn’t very lucrative.
  22. Hopefully Manfred is taking notes! People will watch a compelling series even if it’s not two big US markets against each other.
  23. In other news, just closed on a refi of our investment property...got it down to a 15 year at 4.99% after previously being in the low 7s. So I'm pretty happy about that. Rates are a tad higher today than when we locked the rate in mid-September. I've heard some folks say that Airbnb bookings are down but I personally haven't seen it enough to notice yet.
  24. When you scrape the bottom of the barrel with free agency, that's what you get. Thankfully we were able to resurrect Vaughn but had we not done that we'd be back in the same situation this offseason looking for a a righty platoon option. And given that guys like Ty France and Donovan Solano managed to stay on MLB rosters for most of 2025, the options are not good.
  25. The economy is pretty blah outside of the AI investment. What worries me is that there is a lot of shady stuff going on based on valuations that are assuming this stuff is going to eventually be making money. I think the insular deals between tech and AI startups will be ugly when they unravel. One example I saw was OpenAI’s recent foray into erotica. Does that sound like something a startup with a half-trillion valuation should be doing if the revenue projections were all rosy? I think AI tools will be great and have a lot of practical applications but it’s more of the financial dealings during this crazy boom that worry me as well as the complete lack of anyone in government pumping the breaks or preparing us for what’s to come.
