    Agreed. This is not sustainable. At this rate, the bullpen will be spent well before season’s end.

    Probably Chourio with Wiemer in RF and Frelick in LF. Mitchell in there somewhere too.

    And this is exactly why we play so many close games. Just can’t score enough runs to put teams away.

    Chourio is 1-1 with a walk and an RBI against Perez so far. He’s on another level right now.

    Didn’t we completely fall apart almost immediately after last year’s deadline? Hopefully we’re not headed in that direction again.

    Is this a rehab start for Eury Perez? What is he doing pitching in AA again?

    The backlash from the Hader trade and the fact that the Brewers are again in the playoff hunt makes it nearly impossible that Arnold would sell. I agree that he should be listening to offers and legitimately considering those offers but selling now went out the window with the Hader trade. This will happen in the offseason.

    We got a lot less for 1.5 years of Hader.

    The last blow-out win we had was back on 6/23 when we beat Cleveland by 6 runs. Everything else has been by 4 runs or less and it’s mostly been 3 or less. That is going to KILL our bullpen sooner or later. The offense has to start scoring runs AND adding tack-on runs late in games to keep the top end of the bullpen fresh.

    We’re probably closer to selling than we are buying but our division is so mediocre that Arnold is almost forced into half-ass buying.

    Their offense is way ahead of the Brewers and their starting rotation isn’t too shabby either.

    Apparently for the Cubs 19th and 22nd ranked prospects. Ouch.

    Not particularly exciting but I didn’t have high expectations in the first place.

    And Rowdy and Anderson returning from injury doesn’t count.

    I can’t see too many fans putting up much of a fuss if we trade them in the offseason, especially if we go down quickly and easily in the postseason. I think most understand our financial constraints, particularly with Burnes.

    Rumored player? Probably Ohtani before the Angles took him off the market but even that would have been a really hard pill to swallow. Maybe Juan Soto? Can’t think of anyone else.

    I still think we’ll get a pretty good return for Burnes in the offseason but I hear what you’re saying.
