  1. After that great 24-10 start, the Brewers have gone 22-22 and worse yet, the Brewer fans are happy about it! If we accept mediocrity, then that's all we are going to get! Nothing short of a series sweep of the pathetic Cubs is going to convince me this team deserves to even be in the playoffs! You're being sarcastic, right?
  2. I've never seen this reported. Hadn't it always been $60 mil as the target payroll? With a little wiggle room if the "right guy was there"? Well, we were at about $72, correct? So I'm thinking that's about $5-$7 million over what they wanted as a max, due to not finding takers for Mench or Jenkins. Not substancial, no, but its there. It was a bigger concern of mine on opening day, but they have to be raking in the cash this year.
  3. With how we went well over budget this year, I wouldn't be suprised if we see that corrected next year by keeping salary real low, meaning letting Jenkins leave. However, they are also getting a huge increase in revenue this season with the large attendence spike, so we might be able to afford him. One player that we are very likely to ship out is Vargas, IMO. He's going to cost a lot more next season, and we need to open up a spot for Gallardo. (Please save the Vargas v Bush for another thread) Could he net us a LF replacement who could at least platoon at a high level? Maybe we send away Gwynn or Jackson as well. If so, I'd love to see that and then use Jenkins $9 mil to help resign Sheets. Either way, it'll be interesting to see what they do.
  4. I wonder if they would take Gwynn. Lofton is obviously only a temporary solution for them, I'd imagine they'd be interested in Tony. Otsuka would be under contract through 2009, as he entered this season with 3 years of service time, correct?
  5. "You know she's made of straw." "I figure that's why she burns so easy!"
  6. What the crap is up with all the 4-team trade rumors in the NBA? All these rumors have like half the league involved, no wonder why they never actually happen. As soon as I here "...involving multiple teams" you can pretty much mark it down as very unlikely, especially with superstars. I think anyway.
  7. I remember reading that it had nothing to with the "batting second" advantage but I can't find. the link and could be completely wrong. Really? I expected to see at least some advantage.
  8. Here's my mock: 1. POR - Oden 2. SEA - Durant 3. ATL - Horford 4. MEM - Conley 5. SEA (from BOS) - Yi 6. MIL - Green I don't want Green, so I won't be suprised when we take him. Much rather have Brewer. Also, Garnett won't be traded.
  9. Again, I'm not a big NBA fan, but the Sonics would be getting a great deal if the Allen for #5, West, and Wally trade goes through. Durant and Yi? Good draft.
  10. Is taking five minutes to decide on your dinner order too long or too short? It sounds about the exact amount of time one should spend on that task.
  11. We all know teams will usually win more at home than they do on the road. Why? Well, I'd imagine the main factors would be the pysical/psychological effects of travelling cross country to an unfamiliar city and ballpark and the home teams advantage of batting during the bottom of an inning. But how much does each factor contribute? Has there ever been a study to show how much of an advantage a team has simply by batting second? If we knew that advantage in the form of win%, then we could easily determine the disadvantage due to just travel. Is there this data anywhere?
  12. 2) how can I convert a .tif file to .rtf, .txt, or .pdf? I need it on one of these formats for a job application Go to Zamzar.com. All you have to do is upload your file, select what you want to convert it to, and they'll email you the converted file. They can handle all those file types. I love that site, no downloading or anything. Its real easy and quick.
  13. I'm not a NBA fan, and I only get into the Bucks during the draft and offseason. Put me down for Brewer, I think his skill set is underrated. Though I admit, I'm only 75% positive I know what his skill set is.
  14. Briggs, good call. I think that is the main reasoning.
  15. A .300 average doesn't help you win games, run production does. And what correlates best to run production? OPS! I'd bet Morgan would like WPA, but he probably wouldn't understand it.
  16. LINK Has this been posted before? It's pretty funny.
  17. Just hope Yo gets enough innings. To me, it sounds like they plan to increase Gallardo's workload/role with the team as the season goes along. He could be starting in September, maybe even the playoffs...
  18. I'd rather have Villanueva throw the 7th and 8th one day, while Turnbow sets up the next two. Bingo. Or how about Gallardo? Why not just let Gallardo and Villanueva handle the 7th and 8th innings. One 2+ inning game, two days off. That leaves one game of three days where Turnbow, Wise, and are needed, if we have a few close games in a row.
  19. Gallardo looks to be going to pen right away, without going back to AAA...per the new article on Brewers.com: It also sounds like they plan on eventually using him in a starters role for the playoffs, or would at least like that to be an option. I think this is a very smart move. Props to Yost. In the meantime, we just added another Villanueva to the pen. Absolutely excellent. I wouldn't be suprised if we did nothing this year at the deadline, barring injuries. (I also wouldn't be suprised to hear sports radio all over them for standing pat.) We'll see if mixing his role around hurts him, but I really don't think it will. Just an opinion.
  20. We usually do about 3 weeks ahead of time. Email is sent out to figure out the best draft time, and keepers and available dates are sent back. By the time the draft date is finalized, all keepers are in and included in the draft date email. Works well for our league.
  21. C'mon guys, we're just the Brewers. I'm sure there's a lot of bigger market teams that could use Corey Hart, we should probably give him up now before he starts costing the big bucks in 2 years.
  22. He's on pace for just over 100 innings pitched this year, so trying to stretch him back out to being a starter could prove difficult. Exactly why I'd rather have him move into the rotation than Gallardo. I also wouldn't mind seeing him just keep pitching into the 8th instead of pulling him for Turnbow. Bring Villy in in the 5th-7th, leave him in until we get to Cordero. If Villanueva spends the entire season in the pen, it might not be smart to consider him an option for the rotation next season. Then again, it doesn't really look like we'll need him there, barring injury. He could definately be a 1/2 season injury replacement starter.
  23. Fair enough, DJ, I see you point. Moving to the pen is completely different way of pitching. This is what I'm not sure of as well. I've assumed moving to the bullpen and then back to starter after the offseason wouldn't be nearly as big a deal as some have made it out to be. But same here, just a theory and a guess. I might be wrong.
