  1. I would love to see Gooden as the starting C as that would mean the Bucks would get a guaranteed top 5 pick in the draft. Don't be so sure; there are some really bad teams. Bucks would get unlucky in the lottery anyways and end up picking farther back. I always think it was unlucky that the Bucks lucked out and got the #1 pick the year after Lebron and the year before Dwight Howard. Bogut is a good player but not a #1 type.
  2. The only problem with trading bogut is that I don't think anyone wants to see Gooden as the starting C. They don't have a whole lot of options there; Sanders is too small too hold up consistently.
  3. I guess that tells me that the case is not a simple case and it is going to take some time for the arbitration panel to sort things out. If it were cut and dry that Braun were guilty then I don't think the panel would need that much time; so if anything I would interpret this as good news.
  4. I guess I really didn't think about the HOF question. If he were to put up the numbers I suppose his Tigers career might well eclipse is Brewers career. That would be a very interesting question down the road if he were able to keep up his production. I think the Tigers will like the first 4 years; the next 2 might be OK, with the last 2 being pretty bad. I sure hope that they didn't backload it (I guess I shouldn't care if they did or not but it seems like it would be pretty dumb if they did)
  5. I have to imagine the Tigers will regret this eventually; but jeez that will be a good team in 2012. I am happy for the guy and shame on me for underestimating Scott Boras once again. Well played sir.
  6. MLBTR is indicating that Prince is near a 9 year deal with DET. Kind of ironic he would end up the same place as his dad. 9 years is way to long; but congrats to Prince and Boras if this is true
  7. It is a little frightening to be worring about retirement when I have so long to go before that and I need to save so much money. Thankfully my employer has a great 401K program (100% match up to 6% of salary) so I am saving 12% of my annual income (Obviously subject to market fluctuations). But still when you are 28 and you know you need $1.5 to $2 Million to retire in 35-40 years it is really daunting. And god only knows if Social Security will still be around at that point. I would be way to scared to try to invest on my own. If I had additional money to save I would almost certainly use a broker although I am sure it would be cheaper (From a transaction standpoint) to actually invest on my own.
  8. I am still at the point where I believe it when I see it. For all we know Dan Patrick's source is someone representing Braun or the MLBPA representative on the arbitration panel who are naturally going to say Braun has a chance. It will be very interesting to hear the whole story eventually. The 2 other players with high levels is odd. One would think that if all 3 players took the test at the same time that there might be some tainting involved or testing error. But if the other two were cleared after the backup sample then I don't really know where that leaves Braun. If we do have Braun for the whole year I really like the team; if he is gone for 50 games I think we will be alright but will probably have to go on a big run in the 2nd half of the year
  9. they are much better than their record. If bogut would have been playing for the west coast road trip they would probably be 500 now. There are so many bad teams in the east, its going to be hard for them to not make the playoffs since they have more depth than most teams. Well that is basically the problem. Sure there is a decent chance we get a 6-8 seed and make the playoffs. Then we will get trounced get a first round pick around 15-20 and get no one of consequence that can help the team. It is a vicious cycle. Being a small market middling team in the NBA is a deathwish. You need those Top 5 picks.
  10. A dude on NSBB passed along a rumor that TEX is working on a 6 year deal with Prince; however there is an out clause after 3 years. So it would essentially be a 3 year deal unless he tanks. No idea about the validity; just thought I would pass it along.
  11. I am starting to come around on Jennings a bit. He has really improved his shooting in the early part of this year. The team obviously isn't going anywhere this year; however a rebuild might be a little difficult. There is probably no one on the team that could get a big return other than Bogut and he has had some injury issues. The other guys would probably just be salary swaps with other teams or maybe a 2nd round pick. They are also stil not bad enough to be Top #5 pick bad; they will probably have to get lucky in the lottery. Harris had his best game of the year last night; him and Leuer are pretty promising. Those two hopefully show enough this year to convince the Bucks brass to let go of some deadweight like Gooden next year.
  12. I guess I don't care who plays against tough lefties at 1B. Just get the best players on the field. If that mean Hart plays that fine by me; I just hope they at least give Gamel a chance against LH and not just assume that he will suck.
  13. Yeah seems like a steal at this point. Maybe Krod did accept a little less to make him a more tradeable asset.
  14. Its not like the guy is just going to sit out the year. If push comes to shove I think Boras and Fielder would rather sign a 1 year deal somewhere rather than sign a crappy 3-4 year deal. I am sure there are atleast 5 teams that would sign him for 1/20 right now. I don't know what the 1B market looks like for next offseason but I doubt Fielder would be anything other than the top 1B available.
  15. It is just so odd that not even an offer has been rumored at this point. Is Boras still at the point of trying to convince a team to even make an offer? I know we still have a month or so before Spring Training but the apparent complete lack of interest in Prince is very suprising. Nothing but rumors at this point and it certainly looks like most of the rumors are baseless. Information seems to contradict itself every 2 hours on Prince. Obviously he will sign somewhere; I just don't know that any teams still have $20-$25 Million left in there budget to sign Prince anymore. Most of the teams seem to have already spent there big money and are now looking for bargains. I suppose Prince could be a bargain but he would still be an expensive bargain. My final guess is 5/110 unless the National get him. If the Nationals want him they will grossly overpay like 8/180. 5/110 would be an embarrasment for Boras though; but if he isn't signed in 4 weeks I imagine Boras/Prince will just take whatever they can get.
  16. The ending of the Brewers, Badgers, and Packers latest seasons weren't exactly the best way to go out. Granted all played in significant playoff games (well Rose Bowl isn't a playoff) but it is still painful to get so close but come up short.
  17. It doesn't matter the talent level of the team; the manager is almost universally hated no matter what team you root for. For that reason RR makes no sense to be this year Yuni; it is a virtually certainty that many people will hate him no matter what he does.
  18. Is this some recent event or did the Brewers bring this up 2 months ago? I don't know how the Crew could seriously entertain adding another $20 Million on the payroll without seriously hurting the team in other areas
  19. As mentioned the Brewers would have to trade K-rod and Wolf; and with teams knowing Melvin has to dump them he won't get junk for a return. Even if Fielder comes back and says he'll take 1/20 I would guess Melvin says no thanks.
  20. I have liked him as commissioner; just for the love of god take the stupid All Start Game Homefield and burn it in hell. Other than that I really like what he has done.
  21. I know they are only 8 games into the season; but it seems inevitable that the end result of the season is going to either be a middling year with a pick around #10 or we squeak into the playoffs and get blasted by someone. I really don't think Jennings is ever going to become an above average PG. He can't shoot and he can't finish at the rim and his assists/ball handling skills are probably average at best. I wouldn't be opposed to trading him at all. Put Livingston at point. I wouldn't trade Bogut on the other hand; offensively competent big men are very hard to find; plus he is a pretty good rebounder and shot blocker. I don't think you want Drew Gooden or Larry Sanders to be your future C.
  22. I bought one of John Grisham newer books, Confession, on Friday. I became addicted and managed to miss every minute of NFL action yesterday because I couldn't put it down. 500+ pages; but damn that was a good book. Much better than Grisham's other recent efforts.
  23. I ran into my 20 articles last week. This morning I deleted all existing cookies and blocked all future ones. So far I can read anything I want.
  24. I guess I am ancient and haven't joined the ranks of twitter yet. I have a dinosaur phone so I figured twitter doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me. I guess I will just be visiting brewers.com, packers.com; GB Press Gazette, WTMJ, yahoo sports, espn, etc a little bit more than I used to
  25. Getting local news coverage might be a little problematic but I think getting my sports fix from somewhere else should be easy enough. My local paper, FDL Reporter, is basically worthless so I'll have to do a little research to find some other decent local news carriers. 20 articles a month sure won't go very far; during Brewers season I would probably be there in less than a week.
