  1. I wonder if something like Hart & Gamel would get Bumgarner/Hellickson? A straight up trade is unrealistic but a young pitcher like that would be awesome to have. We probably would need Gamel to replace Hart or Fielder though. No one really talks about trading Jeffress, I wonder if he could be the piece to get us that MLB ready pitcher? Of course if we wait 1-2 more years Jeffress might be just that
  2. So Prince is going to get a Tex contract? Yeah good luck with that. Price has more power but Tex is basically better in every other part of the game. Prince just isn't in Tex's league IMO I will be shocked if someone gives Prince substantially more than what the Brewers supposedly offered. Would someone really give him 6/140? That seems really unlikely to me. Boras isn't helping the Brewers out here, we all know he is going to get traded so proclaiming Fielder unsignable to all but about 5 teams isn't going to increase his value. I love Prince and wish him the best but I am going to laugh my ass off when Boras just bombs Fielder's next contract. Prince is going to get paid I just hope his contract knocks down Boras' ego a little. My uneducated guess is going to be like 5/110 or 6/125. It is kind of crazy that Boras turns down an offer of $20 Million a year. That is a lot of frickin money. Really what can you buy at $25 Million a year that you cant buy at $20 Million? Just crazy
  3. So why exactly should everyone hate LeBron because he left Cleveland? Yeah it sucks for Cleveland but it is pretty obvious that LeBron left because he didn't think the Cavs were anywhere close to winning a championship. He took significantly less money at Miami, if thats not an indictment on Cleveland's front office I don't know what is. And Gilbert comes across as a 4 year old complaining that his big brother stole his favorite matchbox car. The guy is a millionairre and the owner of an NBA franchise and he acts like a buffoon. I am sure his current players and and players he want to sign will really like the fact that he he threw the best player the franchise has ever had completely under the bus. The guy had 5 years to build a championship team around LeBron and what did he do? He got Mo Williams and an over the hill Shaq.
  4. I am getting to the point where it might be better for his development if they sent him back to AAA. He seems completely out of his element right now and needs to be away from the bright lights of MLB for a while. They guy can't go from the best SS in all of the minor leagues to a terrible MLB SS just because he isn't as talented as everyone though. The more likely explanation is that his head just isn't right, hes not concentrating, putting too much pressure on himeself, etc.
  5. Personally I think a starting lineup of Jennings, Salmons, Maggette, Gooden, and Bogut is a really good lineup, probaly the best starting 5 we have had since 2001. Plus we will have some really good depth all of a sudden; at least at the F & C positions. That lineup can probably get a 3-5 seed in any given year but I have to believe that it is going to be hard to be a championship contender. There are just too many good teams and superstars in the East. If Jennings develops into a Superstar maybe we can contend. I guess I shouldn't ask for too much, I would settle for a 1st round series win for starters.
  6. I don't have a problem with Braun's hustle into the corner. A hit in the corner is almost gauranteed to be a double anyways, sprinting out there and using all that energy probably won't make a lick of difference. I do have a problem with the amount of balls he lets drop in front of him that he probably could have made an effort to catch. I don't know if isn't confident to go after them hard or what but there have been a couple "Why the heck did he not go after that" moments Just in general, outside of Braun's first 2-3 weeks of the season; his performance has been underwhelming. But on the topic at hand, the Brewers probably aren't going anywhere this year and their is a decent chance that Bush is on his last leg with the team. We control Parra for longer and he obviously has more upside so if it comes down to Parra or Bush in the rotation I definitely take Parra
  7. It would also help if he had a 1st baseman that can actually pick a ball out of the dirt every once in a while. Or atleast be more than 5 foot nothing for those high throws that virtually every other 1st baseman in the league gets. He hasn't been good as I thought he would be, but our error totals across the board would look a heck of a lot better even with a small upgrade at 1st
  8. Well that sucks. Atleast I will be able to deduct both 2009 and 2010 next year so long as I pay 2010 in December
  9. I have a basic tax questions for anyone that has some experience. I bought a house in 2009 and set up a real estate tax escrow. So obvioulsy I paid out the funds in 2009. The bank cut the check to my county treasurer but mailed the check to me. i didn't get around to mailing it to the treasurer until 2010. I should still be able to deduct the real estate taxes in 2009 right? I mean I did technically pay them in 2009 (Through my monthly escrow)
  10. I am freaking out about getting tickets to all 3 games in MN this year. I better know th exact date those go on sale, otherwise I am afraid those games will be sold out in a matter of days if not hours
  11. Don't understimate the power of a contract year. It seems to happen all the time. That being said, as long as Parra and Bush don't get lit up in Spring Training there is no way that Suppan in the rotation can be justified at this point. I really like the deal. Our rotation is far from top of the line but I would think a 5-7 finish in the NL (In terms of ERA) is certainly possible. With our good offense there should be some healthy optimism that we can get to 90 wins again. Rotation is improved, bullpen is improved, C is improved, SS is likely to improve. The only step back we took was offensively in CF.
  12. Players are known to somehow be good in their contract years. Maybe Suppan can pull something out of his butt and give us a 4.25 ERA. Highly unlikely, but crappy players have done it before. I just don't see anyway Suppan is traded without taking a equally crappy player/contract back
  13. It pretty incredible that two teams can so completely dominate a level of advanced football. These teams could probably compete at the 1-AA (I dont think they call it that anymore) or Division 2 Level.
  14. I wouldn't object all that much to a straight up Gamel for Morrow swap but I would like to think we could get more. Maybe even make it Gamel and Salome for Morrow and a Mariners 1st Base prospect (If they have a good one left that is) 1st Base is the immediate position I think the Crew is short on in the minors while our catching prospects are pretty abundant. So if we could expand this to get a good potential replacement for Prince I would be for it. Maybe they have to bring a 3rd team in.
  15. If there is even one Misty May-Treanor sighting at Miller Park this signing will be totally worth it. Doug certainly likes his catchers this offseason. We essentially have Zaun, Kottaras, Treanor, Salome, and Lucroy for 4 spots in AAA and MLB. I highly doubt both Salome and Lucroy are playing in AAA so Treanor might end up being a AAA or MLB backup. Still not sure where Salome is going to end up, I just don't think he will be with the Crew much longer. He is an AL player and would make a lot of sense for the Mariners, or any other AL team in need of a young, cheap, talented hitter. Maybe include him in some sort of Morrow swap.
  16. Has Ryan Howard signed any sort of extension yet? If not are the Phils going to be able to pay him? I also wonder how much that bandbox will affect Halladay? He does get to go the NL which should improve the stats but the park might more than offset that. He also gets to pitch in NY, ATL, and FL which aren't exactly hitters parks if my memory serves me correctly
  17. Sounds like unless it is a pre arby pitcher coming our way, the Crew would have to shed some payroll to get another good pitcher. The problem is that we don't have many options for shedding payroll at this point. Suppan really is the only one that would have any effect and the only way he gets traded is for another bad contract. I suppose you could trade Suppan and a handful of good prospects to a large market team (A team that can handle the contract) and we might be able to get something of value back but that seems doubtful to me. I would have loved for the Brewers to go after Meche but that seems near impossible at this point due to payroll concerns
  18. I would rather go Gamel and another minor leaguer and just keep Hart. We already sold low on Hardy, Melvin would be wise to at least hold onto Hart until the trading deadline unless he gets another RF back in the trade. I like Morrow but he is no where close to a sure thing. Since we have McGehee and Counsell back to play 3rd I think Gamel is expendable. I think Gamel and and a prospect in the 15-20 range (Gindl or Scarpetta come to mind) would be enough. Mat would be a pretty solid DH candidate for Seattle.
  19. The Phillies, Blue Jays and Mariners have agreed to a trade that will send Roy Halladay to Philadelphia and Cliff Lee to the Mariners, according to an SI.com report. The exact terms of the deal have not yet been reported, although the Blue Jays were reportedly willing to pay some of Halladay's salary in the right trade. Lee and Halladay are both in the last year of their contracts, with Lee owed $9 million and Halladay's deal calling for $15.75 million in 2010. The Phillies are currently working on an extension with Halladay that would keep him in Philadelphia long term. He went 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA over 32 starts in 2009, spanning a league-high 239 innings. Dec. 14 - 3:59 pm et Source: SI.com
  20. How good is the pitching talent down there? Escobar's number obviously looks awesome, but how much stock can you put into this performance? Is it similar to the AFL or even Spring Training in ARI where everyone puts up huge offensive numbers?
  21. What is the difference between a one stage and a two stage?
  22. So if a decent snowblower costs about $500-600 now, how much will it cost next April and will it be worth it to suffer through another year with only a shovel? This is my question of the day
  23. Not a bad deal for a $ standpoint. If Harden gets 7.5 guaranteed I would think we could get Duchsherer for around $5 million since he didn't pitch at all in 2009. I would be for that, although I guess I would prefer it to be like $3 Million guaranteed with escalators for starts bring it up to $5-6 million. MLBtraderumors had a piece up that Sheets is looking for the same salary he had in 2008 ($12 Million) Good luck with that Ben. If that is his asking price, he is still going to be looking for a team in late January
  24. Price is a little high, but Hawkins has been consistently good (Outside of his stint with the Yanks) Overall our pitching staff is much better than it was 24 hours ago. Crew should just release Villy, I am not sure he has a whole lot of value to the organization anymore. At best he is #6 on the reliever depth chart behind Hoffman, Coffey, Hawkins, Vargas, and Stetter. The way it looks now Suppan is probably the long man so Villy serves no purpose anymore
  25. Wolf expected to sign today (Rotoworld via someone's Twitter)
