  1. I do have a concern with the productivity at 1st base going forward. Thames had an outstanding April and after that was entirely mediocre. I don't know if Braun is a good idea at first or not but the Brewers should be looking to upgrade at that position. They shouldn't be trading Phillips; 4th OF with GG capabilities that can play all 3 spots don't grow on trees. Trade Broxton for whatever you can get. I wish there was a reasonably attractive 1st basemen out there in FA that made sense for the Crew so Stearns could fall back on that if he trades Santana and Braun stays in the OF. That being said neither Braun or Yellich profile as a RF defensively which is also a concern. So I guess the point being is that there are still a lot on unanswered questions that Stearns needs to address before Spring Training.
  2. I think they absolutely should look at possible upgrades at 1st. Thames struggled to hold up over the whole year and Aguilar was great with spot starts but not sure if he could handle it full time. So I think they could look at more contact hitters and 1st and 2nd base this year; look for an above average starter, and two above average relievers (Keeping Swarczak would be a nice start)
  3. I would probably rather trade Braun for nothing than trade Santana for some prospects. If the goal is to compete next year you don't trade Santana before Braun unless Santana got you back major league talent.
  4. LB depth is going to be tested with a couple injuries including Cichy. I think the offense is going to be substantially improved albeit very young. Oline is going to be better and they have 3 RB's, 3 TE's, Peavy, and a couple promising underclassmen WR's. I think they will have to score some more as it won't be reasonable to expect the D to be as good as it was last year. BYU was entirely unimpressive last weekend. Michigan at home will be tough and Northwestern is never easy. Biggest game is probably on the road at Nebraska. Unless there are significant injuries I would be disappointed if they have more than 2 regular season losses.
  5. Maybe Stearns got the sports mixed up. Ex-Packer Aaron Brooks had a nice arm.
  6. You would be sacrificing a lot of depth in that scenario. I guess I don't see Irving as a good fit in Milwaukee. Bucks are best IMO with Giannis bring the ball up and creating and Irving needs the ball in his hands. I don't think they would mesh.
  7. I wouldn't bring up Chapman. They traded away guys to get Chapman who helped them win their first championship in over 100 years. That trade was worth it 100 times over. That's how I would view it as a fan. Quintana trade is different but lets see how the rest of the season and his contract play out.
  8. One of those players is not like the other. Jungmann and Medeiros are probably throw in's at this point; Gatewood has taken a leap and is a far more legitimate prospect. Of course I would trade him for the right piece but I think he holds a lot more value than the other two guys.
  9. I am not talking graduation parties for 4K and Kindergarten; just small ceremonies that the schools put together. Having a party for 4K or kindergarten is ridiculous. My oldest just had her kindergarten graduation and it was a really cool little ceremony. Certainly wasn't some big ordeal but the kids really liked it and got to show off some of what they learned.
  10. I understand graduations for 4K, Kindergarten, and maybe 8th grade. Beyond that it is overkill. Graduations for 4K and Kindergarten are more for the parents than anything, they are pretty adorable and the kids are super excited.
  11. Managers also have a job and generally speaking have very little job security from year to year. Wouldn't you favor a veteran with some sort of track record over a young guy if your job was on the line? I would assume Counsell has some assurance that is job isn't on the line no matter how bad the team is this year though. I just get it from a job security perspective.
  12. Bought some mulch from Menards on Friday, realized I needed to get more on Saturday. Brown mulch purchased on Friday is different shade than brown mulch purchased on Saturday which led to 3rd trip to Menards to buy more mulch to blend the two browns together.
  13. I still am a little skeptical that the offense will hold up over the long term but this sure has been a lot more exciting than I was expecting 2017 to be. A lot of the hitters are just playing so much better than they ever have or were really ever projected to. Pitching is the question mark but rather than trading for an expensive starter comes June or July I would rather give Woodruff, Hader, or Lopez a shot. They won't cost anything. I am sure their are some relievers in AA and AAA that could help to. I don't think Stearn will trade away any significant MILB talent this year but if he does it would likely be out of the OF surplus.
  14. I think the point are making is Lonzo could sign a deal with Nike, Adidas, Etc right now and be entitled for a heck of a lot of money. Instead they chose to have their own shoe that is priced way to high. From a financial perspective Lonzo would be better off just signing a shoe deal since they will never sell enough merchandise through their own brand. They will never have the reach of the major companies.
  15. Or you could be a tall skinny guy like myself and find it pretty much impossible to find shirts that have long enough arms that don't make me look like a balloon. Plus having to get pretty much every dress shirt and pants I buy tailored is a major pain.
  16. If only we could play the Reds all the time
  17. Just imagine his numbers if the guys ahead of him were getting on base. He doesn't get a lot of opportunities with 8, 9 and Villar at 1 ahead of him right now.
  18. Probably a decent shot of trading down as well. While I understand the logic is still sucks to watch the draft 3 hours only to see TT trade into the 2nd round. I don't think anyone has a real idea who Thompson is going to draft. How many times in the last 10 years has there really been a consensus pick or even consensus position for their 1st round pick?
  19. Mixon is a first round talent but there enough red flags that I would rather Ted take him in the 2nd or 3rd round if he is still there.. Or Ted can trade out of the 1st into the early 2nd and pick him there. They could probably pick up another 3rd round pick if they would trade down 10 spots or so and they still should be able to get a nice talent then.
  20. I would trade the 2nd round pick for sure assuming we have the cap room. Immediately solves the biggest concern on the team and you can still use 1st round pick on a linebacker, guard, edger rusher, etc.
  21. I was on NFLtraderumors.com yesterday and they had their first mock up. It was the WR out of Washington that ran like a 4.2. That would be a colossally stupid pick for the Pack in the 1st round. The WR depth chart is already at least 4 deep with Nelson, Adams, Cobb, and Allison. Not to mention the fact that with 2 good TE's this year the WR's might not play as much. Any new WR probably wouldn't see the field much. Gotta be a CB or a LB of some sort. Maybe would consider a RB if a good one falls.
  22. Some bad defense and a couple bad breaks. Perez was about a 1 foot away from a 2 run double in the 8th. Game played out a little like I expect the whole season to. I think we will score runs but pitching and defense probably will frustrate at times.
  23. Even after he got by Trice/Hayes I was hoping the back line guys would step up and make it more contested. Unlikely he could pass over the top of them and allow for a shot in time. But even if they managed that it only would have been tied. The failure was on Hayes/Trice; you at least have to make him crossover or hesitate. If they would have done that it would have been a running 30 footer with more pressure. It is what is is; I don't find myself still freaking out about it because Showalter's shot to tie it was even tougher then the one it took to win it.
  24. Now that college basketball season is done in my mind I am definitely getting in baseball mode. Unfortunately I am still more excited for the minor league season than the big league club but I will hope for a pleasant surprise. 2018 is the year I expect to see a competitive team again. The thing I am most optimistic about is some late season call up possibilities like Hader and Brinson that will show a glimpse into the future.
