  1. My experience was that Shedd Aquarium is a rip off. I was expecting a lot more for charging $30 + just to get in the door plus extra to see all the exhibits. I much prefer the Brookfield Zoo which puts the Milwaukee Zoo to shame. I have liked Navy Pier the couple times I have been there but the crowds can be annoying/overwhelming depending on when you go.
  2. I think this was just a matter of Melvin not wanting to cut two guys off the to 40 man just to fit two guys who were injured the entire year on. A numbers game more than anything. I can't imagine Green seeing a whole lot of interest; but I suppose a bottom of the barrell team like MIA might take a flier. Not sure what to think of Gamel; will a team really take on a guy who has barely played in two years?
  3. Roy Halladay, Tim Hudson, Johan Santana are all potentially boom/bust acquisitions that Melvin could look at. The problem is that all of them will certainly get a major league deal and perhaps multiple years.
  4. If 96 wins and 2 wins from the World Series is not handling a good team then yes he can't handle a good team
  5. His fielding has actually been that bad has it? It seems like his routes have been OK and he generally gets to balls you would expect a LF to get too. The only issue I have seen is you can obviously run on him. I would be all for keeping him in LF and moving Braun to RF. If I were DM I would also listen of offers on Khris if they come in. Some one might overpay for the year he had even though in the long run he is probably a league average LF. Don't shop him or anything but I would at least listen. You never know.
  6. The tie breaker is the team's 2012 record. I guess there probably isn't a huge difference between the #7 pick and the #12. Once you get past the top 5 it all comes down to each team's talent evaluation, I don't think there are really any consensus best players available after the top couple of guys. Having the #12 pick is both sucky and good at the same. Sucky because I would have loved to get a higher pick to increase the odds of striking gold. It was good because as bad as the Brewers were this year there were still a lot of teams that were worse than us. We were a mediocre team more than anything. Terrible in one month and a .500 team for the remainder while having major pieces miss significant amounts of time.
  7. We never in a million years should ahve traded Gomez. We would have gottena pile of rocks back from Lhose, Gallardo, or Aoki so what was the point. Yeah maybe if we would have kept the entire salary we could have gotten a top 100 guy; whoopie do. Gallardo was terrible at the AS break anyways
  8. I am starting to feel some optimism but not to the point where I think we can make the playoffs and actually do something when we get there. I think we could be a .500 team next year and if certain things go right maybe sneak into the playoffs as a wildcard. I think the offense will be just fine, Gomez and Segura probably will drop back but just getting anything out of 1st and having Braun for an entire year will make a world of difference. If Aram can stay healthy and Gennett/Weeks can be productive at 2nd we hopefully won't have a single black hole in the entire lineup. A rotation of Gallardo, Lohse, Estrada, Peralta, and Thornburg looks like crap when you compare it to the rotations of PIT, STL, and CIN but is it really that much worse (At least the way they have pitched in the 2nd half). You never know with bullpens but Henderson & Kintzler are two solid pieces to build off of. I will be curious to see what Melvin does this offseason. Did he view 2013 as an utter failure and feel the need for a major overhaul or does he feel we just got a bit unlucky with some underperformance mixed in and hope for a rebound. I tend to think he will decide on the latter and make few if any moves of any signifiance.
  9. I am running my first ever 1/2 marathon on Saturday at Miller Park. The most I have ever ran is about 9.25 miles. I am banking on competition and water along the way getting me to 13.1 miles. I will never do this again as training is a pain in the butt; but atleast I will be able to say I did it (hopefully). I think I can handle 13.1 miles from a conditioning standpoint; I just don't know if my knees and hips will hold up with all the hills. My goal is 2 hours. Any other BFers running the race?
  10. Well now is about the time Yost should be fired to assure a playoff spot right? How many games were left when he got canned here?
  11. Teams do stupid things in the offseason though; you just never know so you might as well kick the tire. Having a right handed heavy lineup really doesn't bother me at all. The best players play; I don't want a LH out there just because we think we need one.
  12. I have liked what I have seen out of Nelson so far but it would be hard to justify kicking any of the 5 guys you just mentioned out. They just better not stick Nelson in the bullpen and screw him up. AAA rotation could be pretty entertaining to watch next year with Pena, Nelson, Hellweg, and Jungmann. They should have a mariad of options should the choose to trade some people or if there is some underperformance.
  13. I will be curious to see how the Pirate fare in comparison to the Brewers "Glory Year" of 2011. Is this year going to be a flash in the pan or will they have sticking power. How will they fare when some of their talent starts getting really expensive, can they keep the team together for more than 1-2 years? I still seems like they might be playing above their talent level with several players probably due for a pretty steep regression (Liriano immediately comes to mind). I will cheering for them this postseason but only because I would rather not see STL, CIN, or LAD in the World Series. I wouldn't mind ATL either but PIT would be the much nicer feel good story.
  14. The Shouse/Ryan Howard debacle is still far worse than what Yost did last night. It is amazing that Yost has had such a long managerial careeer with basically no success at all. He is good at making terrible teams into mediocre teams. Congratulations?
  15. Poor Royals http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/09/this-clinches-it-ned-yost-has-no-idea-what-hes-doing/
  16. That was it, Maxim St. Pierre. I drew a blank that it was for Hendrickson though. I remember looking at his stats when that traded happened wondering how he was still in baseball and what was going through DM's mind when he decided he "wanted" St. Pierre. KC probably gave him an ultimatum; take St Pierre or you can just keep Hendrickson. I am sure that trade had some tense negotiations.
  17. We are probably going to get the equivalent of that terrible minor league catcher we got from KC in some random trade I don't remember from a couple year ago. I think the guy had a funny name. We weren't goint to pay him $7 Million next year so you might as well dump him. I just hope he continues to have the same issues as always. Unless he pitches out of his mind for STL he probably still gets non tendered by them this offseason.
  18. Bogut has a much more refined low post game. Sanders points are mostly garbage, fast break, alley oop type stuff. It will be refreshing watching a lot of young guys play next year but I expect to see a lot of 85-80 ugly games. And with so many new players it is impossible to know how they will play together. Maybe something could click or maybe it ends up like Jennings/Ellis all over again. I think their max wins are probably around 35-37 but they are more likely to end up around 30 which probably puts them around 5-7 in the lottery. In next years draft even that position should net a darn good players and maybe the lottery gods will look kindly upon them.
  19. I am feeling more confident in the team next year but we also have to realize that the Brewers play in a really tough division. The Cardinals, Reds, and Pirates are probably going to be good for the foreseeable future. The Brewers may improve substantially next year and it might not matter. I really like having Gindl/Davis play LF, Braun in RF, and Hart/Francisco at 1st. If Ramirez comes back healthy and playing well and if Segura, Gomez, and Gennet don't just fall off of a cliff I think the offense should be pretty solid. Lohse, Gallardo, Estrada, and Peralta is probably not a playoff rotation unless Gallardo rebounds and Peralta makes the leap in Year #2. Bullpens have been and will always be a crap shoot.
  20. The Mets could have gotten so much more for these guys if they would have traded them at the deadline. Byrd is having a career year. I have to believe they could have gotten someone better than this guy if they pulled the trigger a month ago.
  21. The redemption period doesn't start until the actual judgement is in place and signed by the courts. The government probably just started the court process back in Feb. Again I am basing this off of a bank foreclosure; I don't know if the redemption period is any different in a tax foreclosure but I am pretty confident that they can't kick you out on 10/24.
  22. Well if the judgement day is October 24th then there is usually a redemption period of 6-12 months. If they don't even have a judgement yet then I think you should have at least 6 months. I am just used to how it works in the banking world though and it could be different if it is simply a tax case.
  23. Its almost like Tommy John is an automatic for hard throwers nowadays. Kind of amazing Verlander hasn't gone under the knife yet.
  24. I don't think Gorz is going to be a starter next year. He is so much more valuable as a reliever that can occasionally spot start. I would much rather see Nelson or Thornburg get the 5th spot. They can probably be just as mediocre as Gorz but atleast they can be developing at the same time. Gorz is already old and isn't going to get any better. With Nelson or Thornburg atleast there is a chance that they could develop into something special.
  25. Nelson should have as good of a shot as anyone at that 5th spot if no outside help is brought in this offseason. Guys like Hand, Figaro, Gorzo, Rogers, etc should be viewed as bullpen guys. Nelson, Thornburg, and Fiers should compete for that final spot and based on talent alone I would guess Nelson is the best of that group. But knowing how Melvin operates it is extremely unlikely that he doesn't bring in a starter or two through a trade or FA.
