  1. Hart actually ended up being a pretty solid defensive 1st basemen though. If Braun could match him I would be happy. Davis needs to find some consistent playing time in 2014 one way or another. It is a long offseason and a lot can happen but I fully expect Davis to atleast be in platoon situation on Opening Day. Its really anyone's guess if that is in RF or LF at this point. I also still would not be opposed to the idea of Melvin flipping him this offseason either. If keeps hitting like this he could get some nice pitching back in return. I just don't know yet if this is just a flash in the pan or if he has the sticking power.
  2. I agree that given Aoki's salary I don't see any reason that he can't be a 4th outfielder. He could start against the tougher right handers but I wouldn't want a straight platoon. Aoki is fallen off a bit this year and shouldn't just be handed a starting job next year especially if Davis continues to hit. Braun, Gomez, and Davis is a pretty nice offensive outfield and I don't think they would be any worse defensively than right now with Aoki. Or Melvin could try to capitalize on a big hot streak on Davis and trade him this offseason. He could maybe convince a team that he is better than he really is and get a nice starting pitcher in some sort of package.
  3. If never having lied is a prerequisite for believing someone is telling the truth then I have a bone to pick with Mother Theresa. Everyone has lied and everyone will do it again. People need to get off their high horses saying Braun needs to gravel at their feet. Its friggin baseball for gosh sakes. Braun did something obviously against the rules; he didn't make any of our lives worse off. Just move on. Sure I will listen when he finally talks but does it really even matter? I want him to talk not because I feel like he owes me something but because this will be a cloud over the Brewers until Braun is able to put it in the past.
  4. Eventually he will have to actually talk about this. But the letter is a decent start. Like people have already mentioned MLB could easily refute several of his claims if he is indeed lying again. I really want to believe him, I am just not sure yet. The apology sure is long winded though and I understand why he didn't want to just hold a press conference. At this point it is easier for him to articulate in writing what he is feeling. If he just held a press conference I don't know that he could have gotten the point across that he wanted too. Braun won't be able to hide from the media forever and it would be in his best interest to do it before Day #1 of spring training
  5. Not withstanding his mediocre start yesterday Jimmy Nelson seems like he should be high rated than what he is. Over a K/inning and less hits than innings pitch. The only major issue I see is that his walks have spiked at AAA for whatever reason. Jimmy can strike guys out, doesn't allow a lot of hits, and has only given up 7 home runs the entire year. If he can improve his walk rate he seems like an easy Top #50 talent to me. He is not some schlub topping out at 90 MPH.
  6. Braun getting sued by a friend now? The defamation lawsuit seems more than a bit outlandish though. Probably some guy trying to capitalize on Braun's problems.
  7. Arod may have given the information to yahoo but we don't know for certain that Arod or yahoo gave that information to MLB. For all we know MLB might have uncovered a whole bunch of additional info during their own investigation. Its even worse that Arod actually ratted out a team mate in the Yankees organization. I know Cervelli is a AAAA type player but what the heck do they yanks do with Arod when he ratted out a team mate? Braun still very likely did what he is accused of so it doesn't bother me too much that Arod did this to him. I would be curious how Arod even got the info in the first place though unless he saw this coming and did some underhanded business to get the info. Who the heck knows; Arod certianly isn't going to admit to anything
  8. I sure hope Gallardo some return to some semblance of a good pitcher. Gallardo, Lohse, and Peralta would be a pretty good top 3 and Nelson, Estrada, Thornburg, and Gorzo could fight it out for the last 2 spots. We wouldn't have a top of the line rotation but I don't think we would have any glaringly poor rotation spots either. Those guys as 4/5 pitchers would be pretty darn solid. Really it comes down to Gallardo and Peralta. That being said we all know that Melvin always tries to address the percieved biggest need in the offseason. This offseason it clearly will be SP so I will not be suprised at ll if he swings a signing or trade for 1 or more starters. We don't have much in terms of prospects that would get us a really nice SP though. That is unless someone really likes our low A or rookie levels guys.
  9. Just imagine if Peralta hadn't ahd that horrible game agaisnt CO. His ERA in the last 10 would probably be like 1.50. I have liked Thornburg thus far too; I don't know what happened in the minors earlier this year but it looks like he has sticking power to me. Peralta, Thornburg, and Nelson are three fairly promising young guys that COULD turn into #3 starters or better. That is promising for the future but you still don't go anywhere in the playoffs without 1 or 2 legitimate aces. I suppose one of the young guys could turn into one but I think they probably top out like Gallardo I.E. a #1 by default but probably really only a #2.
  10. I would really like it if they moved a lot of the Arizona guys up straight to WI next year. Not that it would be wise from a developmental standpoint but I just want to watch some of these guys in person. Coulter, Neuhas, Williams, Rubio, Denson, Rizzo etc. Pretty fun team to follow for me. I am guessing Coulter might be the only guy that would actually start at WI in 2014 but a man can dream. No one in Helena really interests me all that much except for maybe Ratterree.
  11. I don't like to see Gindl sent down though. He has done pretty well when they have asked him to play. I suppose it is just a numbers thing and he will be back up in 3 weeks anyways. Even if he comes back and plays well I don't see any team offering anything more than salary relief. Have we heard of DM sent him through waivers yet or was he going to wait until he comes back and plays a bit? I hope he waited
  12. Well technically Braun, Colon, Melky, and one other all failed drug tests from the Biogenensis stuff. So assuming 12 more are suspended today that didn't fail a test that makes a success rate of 4/16 or 25%. Not exactly spectacular.
  13. With the extra wild cards unless you are a truly god awful team with minimal MLB talent (See Houston and Miami) then the playoffs are in site for most years. More than anything I think the extra playoff spots will make Attanasio and teams in general be very wary of completely rebuilding and selling off solid performing assets.
  14. I would still bet on him being an .850-.900 OPS player for the foreseeable future. I believe he will be worth his contract for atleast a couple more years possibly 4-5 more. Those last couple years are anyones guess. I just don't think Braun is just going to turn into some joe schmo left fielder. He obviously will have motivation to prove that he is still a good player and I truly believe he will remain an elite talent. Maybe he is on the DL more often and maybe he slides to an .875 OPS; who the heck knows. I would definitely put money on him staying above an 800 OPS.
  15. He traded for Marcum because his performance was well established. Perhaps he could have traded Lawrie for a younger pitcher but that pitcher might not have been ready to help us in 2011 when we really needed him to. A young SP is worth far more than a young 2b/3b so I have a hard time beleiving Melvin could have acquired a comparable high upside pre arby player like you think he could. All in all that Lawrie trade worked out pretty well for us; Marcum was obviously very instrumental in the success that year. Hindisght is 20/20 but given the situation we were in it wasn't unreasonable that Melvin was looking for a vet he could count on rather than a young guy who may or may not have been ready to help for a playoff run.
  16. In the case of buying at the actual sheriff sale you really are going in blind as you aren't allowed to inspect the interior. Normally once the bank buys it at the sheriff sale it is listed in short order with a realtor and obviously if that is the case anyone can go through the property. I work at a bank and it is true that most foreclosed properties are absolute dumps but I have never seen the horror story of a borrower just stripping the place naked. You almost definitely have to replace all carpets/flooring and more often than not the kitchens and bathrooms are a disaster. And obviously people that have their homes foreclosed on can't keep up with maintenance so things like windows, roofs, HVAC tend to need repair. Just hope it didn't get to the point of mold damage or structural issues. We have customers that tend to buy foreclosures a lot and will give them a headsup when we have something; there is nothing illegal about it. Once the bank owns it they can sell it however they choose whether on the open market or a preferred customer. The only time it gets a little hairy is if a bank employee buys it and the home loan was sold on the secondary market. Otherwise everything is fair game. In general I just wouldn't advise to buy a foreclosure unless you are really know what you are doing (I.E. have a background in construction). Costs for repair can escalate very quickly if you simply aren't prepared
  17. Who could we really have traded and gotten anything worthwhile for? The returns at the deadline this year were incredibly pathetic. In fact Melvin might have gotten the best return of anyone with the Krod transaction. Aoki is a valuable commidity in 2014 even if the Brewers aren't going to the playoffs. He is dirt cheap. Given how Lohse has been performing I wouldn't want to give him away for peanuts. Maybe the market will be better in the offseason. Maybe teams were just scared out of their mind this year about who might be on the Biogenesis list. The Brewers just didn't have a whole lot of tradeable assets this year and how soon people forget how big of a steal Melvin got at the 2012 deadline. Melvin has been pretty darn good with trades during his tenure; his problem has always been with his FA acquisitions. If he would have gotten a worthwhile offer for basically anyone he would have taken it. He has never been afraid to pull the trigger
  18. Miami, New York, Brooklyn, Chicago, Indiana, Cleveland, and Detroit are all unquestionably better than the Bucks right and the Bucks could probably lose a race to the bottom against most of the other teams too. But Orlando and Charlotte are both really bad and probably have a lower bottom.
  19. Until we get some word on Rogers velocity I am just not going to get my hopes up. I hope he can be a September call up and a bullpen guy next year. His arm at full strength would be a tremendous asset in the bullpen. I like Neuhas, Williams, and Denson more and more each day and I have no idea why. They are doing OK but not setting the world on fire. I guess it is a little exciting to watch high upside high schoolers develop.
  20. Most county sheriff offices will post scheduled sheriff sales online. You wouldn't actually buy the home at sheriff sale unless you are really ballsy but you would at least have a heads up on properties that are going through the process. Once the bank buys it back at Sheriff Sale you can approach them about it. Normally local banks are much easier and quicker to deal with than the national guys
  21. Yo might as well just stay on the DL the rest of the year; its not like he has been worth a darn anyways. I am guessing Thornburg is going to stay in the rotation since he pitched pretty well yesterday; allbeit against the Cubs. Nelson will almost definitely get a look in September; I would just let him keep going in AAA for now
  22. Dumb and Dumber and Anchorman; after that it drops off a lot
  23. Braun at 1st with a Gindl/Davis platoon in left doesn't seem like an awful idea. It at least doesn't require us to overpay for some FA or bring back a big injury risk in Hart. Schafer could play RF if Aoki is gone or could be in some sort of rotation at all three OF spots. Francisco better be no where near this team next year unless it is strictly a sub role. He makes Prince and Braun look like gold glovers.
  24. Brandin Knight seems like a decent guy to get back. I have no idea who the other two guys are but it probably doesn't matter. Curious to see who will start; Knight or Ridnour.
