  1. I posted this on the major league forum but this seems like a waste. A player cannot possibly pull off a move from rookie ball to Milwaukee. I am sure he probably is a LOOGY but this really seems like a shot in the dark and a waste of a roster spot.

  3. Did we really just pick a rookie league player with 47 professional innings in the Rule 5 draft. But possible purpose could that serve. No chance he is on the 25. He is a lefty but I really can't envision a 21 year old kid going from the Gulf Cost League to Milwaukee and actually sticking. How is this kid even eligible for the Rule 5 draft anyways?
  4. I would definitely pay 1/2 of his salary just to get him out of here. He is just an expensive back up at this point. I would not ask for a whole lot in return; maybe the Marlins could give us a reliever for him.
  5. A Morris/Halton platoon could probably equal Loney's production for many million dollars left. If DM is hellbent on bringing in a 1st basemen I hope he swings for the fences and doesn't settle. Either pull something out of your butt for an allstar type player or go with what you already have.
  6. There is no way DM and MA take this and just move on with what we have. It almost seems a near certainty that James Loney is going to be a Brewer next year. Better than Ike Davis I suppose. But even then Loney just seems so mediocre
  7. There are really only a handful of teams that actively recruit one and done players. Yeah some times may end up with one from time to time but thats not how they typically operate (Michigan St for example). Whereas teams like Kansas, Kentucky, Duke are always competing for these guys they know will only be there one year. Those teams probably do it because there is so much pressure to win each and every year that they feel they need to best talent every year regardless if it is a short term fix. Has a player under Bo ever left college early for the pros? I can't think of anyone off of the top of my head.
  8. When Chicago isn't playing Rose, Deng, Noah, or Butler they are just as bad as the Bucks. That basically there B team that they were barely able to beat.
  9. I would take Lee under the right circumstances (Say maybe $15-18 Million per year) but we would probably have to give up some prospects rather than high priced veterans. Maybe you could include Lohse but they probably would also want probably 2 or 3 of our Top 10 prospects. Even though Lee has been great I just don't know if it would be worth it for a 34 year old. The contract is only for 2014, 2015 and an option fo 2016 so atleast that part of it isn't all that bad.
  10. I agree, salary inflation will only go so far. Ticket prices can only be increased by so much and won't nearly cover the inflation in salaries. TV contracts are all well and good but I don't know that the current trend of ballooning TV contracts will go on forever. I don't think there will be a correction anytime soon; but it does not seem like the current inflation in salaries is sustainable in the long term. Maybe I am wrong. Salaries haven't turned me off all that much. I tend not to think about how much these people make while I am watching; I just watch for my own amusement. Sure I think baseball players are overpaid but I still enjoy watching and attending games.
  11. The High of 4 tomorrow seems like the lowest high in a very long time. I don't remember too many brutally cold days last winter although I might have selective memory. It is December 10th and there are already morons on Lake Winnebago trying to go ice fishing. There is open water everywhere yet but there are always yahoos trying to fish on the first ice that shows up. With no forecasted highs anywhere near above freezing; just wait a week and it will get a lot safer out on the lake. Now it's just dumb.
  12. I would rather have bad Eric Gagne, bad Danny Kolb, and bad Derrick Turnbow than Marmol. I think he is finished. If we thought Axford and Krod gave us heartburn; Marmol would give everyone heart attacks
  13. Wasn't Morrison the guy that had his 1st HR held hostage by that whacko fan in Miller Park? I thought it was someone with the Marlins.
  14. By the end of the year they will probably be Top #10 or #15 but definitely not Top #5. Right now they have earned it; they played a good schedule and beat everyone. They are going to take at least 3-4 losses in the Big Ten; that is pretty much a given. I don't think UW is anywhere near one of the Top 5 teams in the country. Kansas, Kentucky, MSU, Duke, Ok State, Arizona, Syracuse are probably all better teams in the long run altough UW could probably beat any of them on any given day. Assuming UW stays in the Top 4 in the Big 10; this strong performance in non conference probably makes them a good bet for maybe a 3 or 4 seed.
  15. Based on qoutes today it sure seems like Hart is Priority #1 at this point. If DM does not get Hart to come back then he is going to be in desperation mode. I just hope that he is not desperate enough to call the Mets. I don't want our season to hinge on Ike Davis who even at this best probably can't hold Hart's jock strap. I don't know who the Brewers go to if Hart doesn't work out; it probably has to be a trade. I just really hope it isn' t Ike Davis or Juan Francisco. If I want mediocrity I would rather just go with Morris; we already have him and he is cheap. Hell I would rather move Aram to 1st and find a decent 3rd basemen than have to settle for some bum at 1st.
  16. We are better off trading Ramirez at the trading deadline in 2014. I don't think we would get much value for him now. If he hits well and stays healthy in 2014 he could conceivably bring back a decent haul from a contending team desperate for offense (Obviously assuming the Brewers aren't contending). Lohse I am indifferent on and Gomez I have no interest in trading. Gomez was one of the most valuable players in all of baseball last year and has a team friendely contract. That is not the type of player you trade unless it is obvious to everyone that the overall team will be terrible. That is obviously not the case with the Brewers; while not everyone is crazy high on the team; no one thinks they are the Astros either. The haul on Gomez would have to be astronomical for me to consider it wise to trade him. Gold glove centerfielders with strong offensive skills and speed don't grow on trees.
  17. I know this isn't a CFB forum, but Wisconsin has a chance for more SEC wins than Arkansas this year
  18. They could go for Neal too; he would be a decent fill in for Wade and would be much cheaper for them. Getting that kind of haul, even if the 1st round picks are basically 2nd round picks, would be pretty impressive. Bucks don't really have a use for any of those players though.
  19. What about Nelson though. He might have the most upside of all three. He acquitted himself quite nicely in limited time at MIL last year and I don't think he has a whole lot left to prove at AAA either. But as of now there is only one spot for Nelson, Thornburg, and Smith. I just don't want Nelson rotting away in AAA and he is definitely a starter who shouldn't be stuck in the bullpen long term. Thornburg and Smith seem more suited for the bullpen than Nelson.
  20. Seattle had to make this move in anticipation of others because even with Cano the team is still mediocre. You don't pay $200 Million + for Cano without fielding a at least division winning calibur team and I don't believe the Mariners are there yet. They need to do even more.
  21. If Davis proves to be an upgrade over Aoki and Smith proves to be a contributor in some way than this deal makes plenty of sense. If Davis just stinks up the joint DM will wish we still had Aoki.
  22. I don't like making Smith a starter if it bumps Nelson and/or Thornburg to the bullpen. Does he really have any more upside than those two? He has shown an ability to very good out of the bullpen; just leave him there as a 7th/8th inning guy.
  23. Giannis, Henson, Sanders, and Wiggins would look pretty good We would need to find some shooters and a PG but that would be an awfully nice young core. Knight hasn't looked all that bood so far so I am not sure if he should be in the long term plans. Wolters should be a solid backup PG but shouldn't be a starter.
  24. More importantly I want some Fresh Prince of Belair at Miller Park
  25. He had a great 2013 as a reliever. If they want him to be a starter than he is probably a 4/5 at best. Less than a 1.00 WHIP and a 11.6 K/9 ratio would look really nice in our bullpen. Plus he only 23 and we have him for a good long while. I thought we would get more for Aoki given his favorable contract. But I suppose he is on the wrong side of 30 and has below average power for a corner outfielder. If Smith turns into a big contributor in the bullpen it is probably a good trade. I would just assume leave him in the bullpen; Thornburg and Nelson appear to be better options for the rotation
