  1. I still believe Braun will be the same player he has always been. You don't trade away that type of player with a fairly manageable long term contract for anything less than a player or players that would significantly increase the odds of long term success. You don't trade players like that for stop gap first baseman. If Braun were ever to be traded it probably would be this offseason though. If he comes back and hits like crazy in 2014 DM certainly would have no interest at all. If he sucks in 2014 they won't be able to trade him. I really don't think Melvin could ever get fair value back for him so there are probably 50:1 odds that he gets traded. I don't think any team would give up enough to take on Braun and all his issues. If Braun does get that 3rd strike its not like the Brewers have to keep paying the guy. It will be just like letting Fielder walk in FA with basically no compensation. You just move on.
  2. This looks like it should improve both teams in the near term for sure. Detroit probably took advantage of the only chance they ever were going to have of dealing Fielder. If he has another sub 900 OPS year in 2014 they probably would have no chance of ever trading him. This deal just gives further credence that these long term deals are atrocious. They are almost always an over reaction and with no thought to 3-4 years down the road.
  3. Gasser is more of a SG now though and has been hitting his shots. Koenigs should take away some PG minutes from Jackson and Marshall. Gasser has taken on a complimentary role and is probably the 4th or 5th option on offense. He really seems like a spot up shooter at the moment but perhaps over the course of the year he will start to get more comfortable with the ball again.
  4. Not a chance in bloody hell that this deal would ever happen. Even suggesting such a trade seems irresponsible. Not in a million years would be we trade Ryan Braun and cash for Ike freaking Davis. Take off the NY glasses dude.
  5. I was afraid what might be in this thread when I saw it was bumped. I don't understand how any team could want him on a MLB deal after they look at this historical stats.
  6. The WI team is certainly different this year. I think Bo realizes he doesn't have the inside presence to run a real drawn out half court offense. They have so many good perimeter players that he is really just letting them play. They don't have the big guys to bang down low so they are pushing it more and taking quicker shots. I don't think they ever got close to a shot clock violation last night. The defense clearly isn't as good as it has been in the past but everyone on that team can shoot. Kaminsky was pretty incredible last night. I also thought the Koenigs has looked pretty good in the minutes he has gotten so far. The Big Ten is a whole different ball game so we will see if they can play like this against the Michigan States and Ohio States of the world.
  7. I think it is about time that we actually get a legit rumor to talk about. Speculating on a Segura, Fielder, etc is getting kind of old since it is obviously not happening. We need something worthwhile to talk about. Winter Meetings aren't for a couple weeks yet too.
  8. What happens to the Pirates if AJ Burnett retires and Liriano goes back to his old mediocre and inconsistent self? Yeah they have some other good young pitchers but they would still take a big step back IMO. There offense is entirely mediocre. The Cards are going to be good no doubt about it. Although if they lose Beltran and Carpenter falls back the offense won't be as good as it has been. That pitching will carry them for a long time though.
  9. Prince will be untradeable to the NL. He is stuck in the AL for the rest of his career; no NL team would ever risk signing him. He is basically Big Papi
  10. Congrats to Cutch but man what a down year in the MVP race. The winner had an OPS of only slightly more than 900. That has got to be one the lowest numbers for a winner in years. Cutch certainly was the most deserving though. 6 people that Matt Carpenter was the 2nd best player in the NL; holy crud. I am sure some STL beat writer but Molina and Carpenter 1-2
  11. The groundskeepers at Miller Park have a pretty sweet job. Never have to worry about the tarp; basically just don't let the outfield grass die. Now he has to worry about carving the darn Arch into the OF and he has to pay attention during the games.
  12. Segura and either Tyrone Taylor or Victor Roache for Miller and Adams. I would also throw in someone like Pena or Delmonico to sweeten the deal if they needed more. Miller and Adams would improve this team so much it would be ridiculous. Try to find a stopgap SS that plays good D.
  13. I am starting to believe in this tanking business. They are probably better than Orlando but it just so happened that a lot of players were "hurt" last night. I am sure these guys will be ready to go for Indiana and OKC whom we couldn't beat even with a full squad. Only two teams have a worse record right now (Utah and Washington) but there a bunch of teams with only 1-3 wins. The Bucks are staring 2-7 in the face. After that they have a ton of winnable games that important guys will mysteriously be unavailable for. Detroit, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington.
  14. For some reason I am drawn to the Alaskan reality TV shows including Deadliest Catch, The Last Frontier, Life Below Zero. The survivalist nature of the shows is very interesting to me; especially the latter two
  15. The games did not disappoint last night. I was much more impressed with Parker than Randle or Wiggings but it is pretty obvious that those guys have a ton of talent. The Top Tier talent will be legitimately 5-7 guys deep in the draft next year. UW played a pretty solid game all the way around. Florida was missing some guys but that should still be considered a really nice win. Nigel Hayes looks like he has got some potential; he can be pretty physical down low. Too bad he isn't 2 inches taller. It looks like there are a ton of really good teams in CBB this year; 2013-2014 will be one of the more entertaining seasons that I can remember
  16. An amazing slate of games tonight; Michigan State vs Kentucky, Kansas vs. Duke, and Wisconsin vs Florida are all must see games. I am going to go ahead and pick Michigan State, Kansas, and UW.
  17. For gosh sakes there is a reality show called Moonshiners. Have you seen the commercials for that; its redneckville times a billion. I can't believe people actually watch this stuff. American Idol, Bachelor, Amazing Race, etc are one thing but some of these shows are just ridiculous.
  18. Maybe the Farmers Almanac is going to be right this year. They predicted brutally cold temperatures and higher than normal snowfall. That is not exactly a combination that I look forward to. I will take one or the other or neither please.
  19. I honestly didn't realize that Turner was that young. I am not sure why I thought differently. I can't imagine replacing Miller Park in 10 years. The devil will be in the details as far as public financing goes; but if they have gottent this far they are probably reasonably sure everything is a go. The real trick will be explaining how the public financing isn't really public financing. That is a politican question.
  20. What the Cards would need to give up for Tulo would be mind boggling. Miller & Adams would just be the top of the iceberg. They would probably have to part with Martinez as well. Given the contract Tulo has I just don't know that he would be worth it. Andrus or Profar from Texas seem to make more sense but they still wouldn't be cheap even with Profar having a subpar 2013. There just aren't that many young controllable SS's out there Now if we could give them Segura and change for Miller and Adams I am pretty sure I would do that. You would solve two pretty big problems. Of course we would be opening up another giant hole at SS too. DM should probably talk to STL but doing any kind of deal with a division rival with such big pieces seems incredibly unlikely.
  21. I am curious if they are going to be able to win at least 1 of the next 4 games. Miami, Orlando, Indiana, OKC. Ouch. Orlando is probably the only winnable game and that is on the road.
  22. Dukan actually played over Kaminsky down the stretch. He played really well and caught me completely by suprise. It sure looks like this team will struggle to rebound though. This team will really struggle when they play against some size; such as Michigan State. As always the team is going to live and die by the three. The good news is that they have a ton of shooters this year. I think that 15-20 ranking is probably about right for this team. The game against Florida this week should be interesting. That could be two really solid wins right out of the gate.
  23. Seems kind of odd that this is breaking news. I would think that somehow this would have came out some time ago if they were leaving Turner. They were due for a new stadium though.
  24. If anything Wolters play should make Ridnour and/or Knight very expendable
  25. Even if you want to keep Morris at AAA for another year; could you really get any of those guys on a one year deal? If Morris isn't get to be at MLB and you sign a FA for 2-3 years you might as well just trade Morris and keep someone like Francisco or Halton as a back up. I am guessing they could get Hart, Morneau, or Loney on a one year deal but you never know. Early indications are that Hart has received quite a bit of interest; it might take a 2-3 year deal to sign him.
