  1. 1.) 51 years 2.) What is the minimum games? 3.) Birdie Tebbets? 4.) Leo Durocher 5.) Larry Doby White Sox.
  2. I also found out that farther back, in the 1500s, my family were a part of the English nobility, and the roots do go back to William the Conqueror. Mine are as well.
  3. Rivera isn't a stud, but he's less bad at this point. I am not convinced that this is a certainty -- much like Gerut, Cat., etc... I am all for reducing ABs for Kendall & Hart, I am just not sold that the replacements are going to be any better, or at least significantly so. There certainly is no good reason for Kendall to catch 150+ games -- I think we can all agree on that.
  4. Supposedly he's a "great game caller", Funny thing is, I was listening to an interview with Kendall last year, and he said that the notion of "game calling" is very over stated -- before each game the catchers/pitchers/coaches all go over how they are going to approach each hitter, sort of like a QB calling scripted plays in an FB offense. I am sure that Kendall has some sort of advantage over Rivera, as he has caught well over 1500 more games than Rivera. He is pretty bad at baseball at this point -- I think the thing that keeps him in the lineup is that Rivera is not a stud either.
  5. 1940s Newhouser 1950s? Berra, Mantle 1960s? (2 players tied) -- Maris, Frank Robinson 1970s? (2 players tied) -- Joe Morgan, Schmidt? 1980s? -- Dale Murphy I know some of those are right!
  6. yeah -- that has to be it -- they didn't win anything until Weaver came to town
  7. Levitation is really classless. Agreed. Russ Springer is a tool. Someone should throw at him.
  8. It looks like in that photo Russ Springer is levitating Pujols.
  9. wake me up when they do zombies.
  10. 5. Washington?
  11. 4 -- Sam Crawford
  12. Since he threw out 55% of runners in 2007, his percentage has dropped drastically to where it is at 22% right now. A lot of times when a catcher enters a league, coaches test their arms by running a lot -- giving the catcher a lot of easy chances, once the C starts picking off runners, the attempts and percentages drop. Mauer is a great defensive catcher. I probably would agree with Ennder's assessment.
  13. Yeah I would hate having a guy who hits .284 .344 .472 .816 (Gerut vs. RH) over a player who has hit .264 .307 .466 .773 (Hart vs. RH) too! Why would anyone even consider this? I hate giving our team the best chance to win! I am OK with you disagreeing with me, I am not sure if the blue font gives you the license to be such a jerk about it though. The problem with your argument is that you are using career stats -- I don't think it is reasonable to use these in comparison with Hart -- first Gerut played in the AL, second, this was before he had his injury which cost him 2006 & 2007. I believe the more reasonable thing to look at is what the 2 players have done in the last 2 years... I'd go back three years, but Gerut has played 59 games in 2005, 0 in 2006, 0 in 2007, 100 in 2008. Hart is hitting RHP much better than Gerut is so far this year. (.747 v. .600 OPS) Now, Gerut did much better against LHP than Hart last year (.826 v. 745), so certainly using 2008 would be some sort of argument, although it was only ~250 ABs. Why would anyone even consider this? I would be surprised if the Brewers were considering a straight platoon of Gerut/Hart for the following reasons.... 1.) Gerut is 31, Hart is 27. Hart has a better chance to improve. 2.) Hart's trade value would be significantly damaged by platooning him. 3.) Gerut missed most of 2005, all of 2006 & 2007, and missed Sep. 2008. 4.) We are talking about a gain of roughly 40 or so OPS points. Generally platoons require a much bigger difference. If you think that damaging Hart's trade value is a good risk based on Gerut's 263 2008 ABs, prior to his season ending injury last year -- I would have to disagree with that. I hope that you can use this as an example of how to present an argument without resorting to the blue font or acting like a jerk. While I understand Corey Hart is the second coming of Robert Clemente to many around here. Strawman. When you look at Gerut's numbers against RHP and away from Petco, he not only appears to be an upgrade, but he would appear to be a significant upgrade Gerut has a .333 OPS at home so far. It could mean he is struggling, or perhaps his park is somehow hurting him. Gerut had a .789 OPS at home last year -- he has demonstrated the ability to hit in Petco in the past -- so I really don't think the Petco argument holds a lot of water. You look at just the last couple years since Gerut came back from injury, and the argument for him taking AB's from Hart becomes more compelling. Gerut was out in 2007 played 0 games As noted above Gerut hit RHP better in 2008 There is nothing compelling about 2009 to suggest platooning Gerut with Hart/Braun or Cameron. Gerut may end up hitting RHP better than Hart, I don't think that "significant upgrade" is a phrase I would use, and I don't think you platoon Hart over 260 ABs, especially with a guy that has had a lot of injury concerns. I think Gerut is way better than TGJ, and Gerut is better than Gerut is currently producing.
  14. I know a lot of posters here love David Eckstein How is this poster/blasphemer not banned? Why can he say things like this?... I feel violated. Ned Yost always talked on the grittiness of Kendall and Counsell... so a lot of regulars here make fun of that and add some other players from around the league into the discussion and Eckstein is the first to be mentioned. Uecker gushes about Eckstein.
  15. At this point I'd be all for a straight platoon--Gerut/Hart in RF, I like the Gerut trade a lot -- but I would hate to see this platoon, and I cannot believe it is even being considered. I think Gerut gives us a better 4th OF option, nothing more, nothing less. Casey/Craig at 2B, This would also make me cringe. Counsell would effectively become a starter, and that is not cool either. Counsell should only be getting 2/3 starts a week and some PH work -- he is not platoonable at this point in his career -- I suspect we will see a move like last year to address 2b.
  16. I guess that guarantees Chris Duffy will be catching a flight with the Hurricane. Duffy might not make the trip back to Nash. he could get picked up. However, I'm not wild about a 13 man staff, hopefully it won't last for long and it won't come back to bite the Brewers. I think we went with a 13 man staff for an extended period of time last year.
  17. Ozzie was probably goading on the media a bit with that one. I kind of find that hard to believe. I don't know, figuring that he is working often when other teams are playing -- and it's not like the Pads roll into South Chicago often...
  18. I don't think Ruth ever won the MVP -- so I would guess that. I know Ruth played in an AS game.
  19. No. If a runner steals 2nd and the batter pops up they still have to go back to 1st base... same with the 3rd strike rule.
  20. Brooks > Branyan and his Oakleys. Whoa! -- Let's back the crazy train up a bit... I'm glad that we have the Toolshed, but let's not stop eating bacon or anything like that....
  21. I'm planning on continuing until the Brewers either lose or I have a heart attack from high cholesterol. We are willing to make the sacrifice if you are... I'm hoping you'd get in the BF HOF for that effort. I'd chip in for a headstone. I can't imagine too many better ways to go out though....
  22. Kudos to Todd by the way -- great job!
  23. Brooks should be one of those guys the Brewers should put on staff, basically just to hang out around the stadium (a la Gorman Thomas and Johnny Logan). I think Brooks is more of a BF.net legend than a Brewers legend.
  24. Despite what has been said by Bill Schroeder, he is still a bad defensive 1B. Good one.... Rock is less than accurate. Cecil Fielder's last season was age 34, but he fell off a cliff at age 30-31 and his best years were 26-27. Cecil was also not that fat when he started out.... http://www.wpla.net/images/cecil%20fielder.JPG People tend to remember this guy... http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Arena/5866/fielder.jpg
