  1. Fun WS stat:
  2. You could argue it's just the Blue Jays that are the difference, but I think Snell's WS outings aren't near what he did against the Brewers. Yamamoto was equally as brilliant. Still, credit to Toronto for putting together quality at bats, which the Brewers were unable to do.
  3. I believe it was on one of the broadcasts where they noted that 25% of Canada was watching the game before or something like that.
  4. Right. One, a popular national show is going to do better than the World Series which stretches over 4-7 games, unlike the Super Bowl, which is a single game. Also, interest is going to drop to some extent as fans' teams drop out. Overall viewership of the postseason was way up: "Through the League Championship Series, MLB Postseason viewership is averaging 4.48 million viewers in the United States, making it the most-watched Postseason since 2017 and an increase of +13% over last year."
  5. The time of the game was 6 hours 39 minutes. I didn't say this game specifically the 10th inning of this game began at 10pm, what I said was "Under normal circumstances that would finish by 10p." That's an accurate statement. Game times have been well under 3 hours since the pitch clock. Whether it's 10:00, 10:20, whatever. If the game had been 9 innings, it would have been over at a reasonable time. The only people that lose in a long extra inning game are those that are put out because they didn't get to see the end. For everyone else it's just bonus baseball, bonus eyeballs on TVs, etc. My life is the better for seeing some epic performances from random Joes like Will Klein to GOATs like Shoehei and Freddie. I'll trade some sleep for that any day. (And it's fine if you disagree, you just get to choose to go to bed. :))
  6. What exactly is your complaint? The game started at 7p CT. Under normal circumstances that would finish by 10p. The Super Bowl isn't a 6 hour game. If viewership drops off, oh well, but I guarantee you a ton of people across the country (especially in LA) stayed up to watch this. Forcing an early end (e.g., Manfred runner) to mollify people that want to go to bed doesn't make sense to me at all.
  7. Feels like a bit of a strawman though. How many players in line for tens of millions of dollars are making that argument? But regardless, my point is it seems like you're saying "since Woody's already made $30M (or really $15M), he won't care about how much his next contract is and can offer a massive discount to the team. That's obviously not how it works. If the Brewers are in the neighborhood of other offers, I'm sure he'll take it. If they're not, he'll be playing somewhere else.
  8. I wish we could've seen a new longest game and Yamamoto coming in to pitch the 19th, but it was still incredible.
  9. Man on 2nd is only a regular season thing. Boy, the Blue Jays play 15 in the ALCS and 16+ in the WS...
  10. Career .871 OPS vs RH, .759 vs LH 2025 was much worse: .860 vs .660. 2024 he was over .900 both ways.
  11. Well, after taxes he has significantly less than that already. But I'm not sure what relevance that ever has for someone seeking a new contract.
  12. We're talking about a season in retrospect, so yes, that's pretty much exactly what it means.
  13. Did you mean will never happen, or am I misreading the rest of your post?
  14. I think he's saying 2 games to 1.
  15. Correct. Woodruff may well want to come back to the Brewers, but the path is definitely not going to go through a mutual option, that would just be stupid on his part. You decline, get the $10M, then figure out a new 1 year contract (in the very worst case).
  16. Are we trying to make this an either/or instead of both/and? Of course they're going to make a bunch more money here, but the money is here because (to some extent) that's where the talent is. These are insanely gifted and competitive athletes. We can debate how much of the decision making process is "I want to compete against the best" vs "I want a bajillion more dollars than I can make in Japan," (and that's going to vary by player), but the former is absolutely a factor here. It seems like you're saying it's not, and I think you're wrong.
  17. I don't think #1 was a factor, but it was also overplayed. Roberts called Murph out on it at some point, basically saying that was his shtick but of course the Dodgers know who all their players are. Which is obviously true - it's one thing to say that Japanese media don't know who Brewers are, it's another thing to say a team that you beat 6 times in the regular season don't know who you are. That's ridiculous. I bet every major leaguer can recognize by name 90% of the other players.
  18. I'm convinced that Murphy would have brought in Uribe in the 7th if it was them. Wilson didn't bring his best reliever into the highest leverage situation in the game, and he paid for it.
  19. It's hard for me to buy this narrative when the answer is simply that we were dominated by really good pitchers. You can argue what portion of the blame goes to the hitters' approaches, but if Blake Snell is on fire, it doesn't really matter whether it's the Brewers or the AL All Star team, the results are going to favor the Dodgers. Even if Uribe was worn down, the problem was not the bullpen. You can't win scoring 1 run per game.
  20. Henderson. Perhaps Ashby.
  21. If it's Ashby, presumably we're doing Miz for the bulk and then Quintana tomorrow. I don't really care, they're each going to need to put in innings. Or I suppose it could be both Miz and Q today and Priester again tomorrow, he did a fine job in Game 1.
  22. I prefer it starts Thursday.
  23. Yesterday only confirmed that the path to victory is through the Dodgers' bullpen. Yamamoto can't possibly go 8, right? Right??
