  1. I actually think this is a good matchup for Weeks also. No big slider or curve going away from him, and Doug doesn't use his curve too much. Weeks should get some balls on the inside that he can try and drive. We need him. I'm a bit concerned about Hart lately and his pulling off the ball, so we need some production from the bottom.
  2. Power? He is barely getting the ball out of the infield when he does make contact. I recall some doubles a ways back, but those weren't bouncing off walls so much as looping over bases. How good could we be if he actually put it together? I once said on here that he was overrated, and he went on an absolute tear. I, of course, was torched by some Al guy rambling on here. So, here we go. Weeks is way overrated. I think we should send him to Brevard. He is Glenn Braggs II. Hope that helps.
  3. One of the effects of this is that we have a thinning list of possible replacements for Cappy if he continues to struggle. Maybe this Oxspring fellow would get a shot. At least we don't have to watch his innings, and sometimes these older guys can come up and be effective for awhile until they get figured out. That might help when we go against the same teams over and over again in the Central.
  4. per ESPN. Looks like Parra will be active. (title --1992casey)
  5. No real surprise, Sheets to DL, Parra to Milwaukee.
  6. If I was a Reds fan I would shoot the GM if he made that trade. The guy is close to 600 HR and he gets traded for Jenkins? Terrible. Trades two and three are not as wild and extreme, but I wouldn't do them either. I propose we do nothing since Buehrle is no longer available. A for effort.
  7. I wouldn't put Gallardo in that trade, despite the fact that I don't see him as a staff ace. Too bad that half the crappy teams that we could actually hope to trade with are in our own division. You can make deals with them but always afraid they will end up biting you later. I think Zach Jackson should be dealt. I don't think he will ever amount to anything. Include him in a deal for Otsuka or Al Reyes.
  8. How exactly do you research the effect of a base stealer on the mentality of the pitcher? I'm not disputing that it has been done or questioning you, it just seems strange.
  9. Have we not been listening to Melvin? The mantra I believe is win now, and anyone we acquire will be for that means. Bush isn't going anywhere, sorry to break up the fun.
  10. Not taking sides here but stolen bases are valuable for more than just the extra base. Guys that steal do disrupt the pitcher and can lead to poor pitching and nice fastballs for the next hitter. Stolen bases also eliminate double play situations and easy force outs to end innings. Seems to be much more likely to score a man from second than from first, as well. Again, not saying anything about Crawford, but I think a guy that can steal can be disruptive to an opponent and help an offense for that reason.
  11. I disagree that Vargas has a ton of value, even at $5 million. He should be put in a deal that involves a reliever. Put the reliever in the pen to replace Gallardo. Gallardo would become our 5th starter. He could be skipped several times for off days to keep his innings down. I disagree that Villy would be moved to the starting rotation. I think Yost likes him in the pen. I think we would even have a better staff if Parra or Balfour would somehow replace Vargas. He is simply too inconsistent.
  12. I have nothing against Gwynn, but I wish this deal would happen now and that Gross would get the time in CF. I think he has shown that if he is given some consistent time he can produce. OBP is around .380 with some pop.
  13. I thought he looked great today until he ran out of gas. He runs the bases in the top of the inning and clearly lost it. I just don't understand why Yost waits so long when we have the break coming up. Some of our guys looked gassed today. JJ Hardy needs a break more than he does an all-star game, but hopefully he will find time to rest because his bat just isn't as quick right now.
  14. Well dad I'm glad you are so optimistic. I guess your numbers don't lie but I don't feel that comfortable with our starting staff. I believe Gallardo had something to do with that. And, I still think Weeks is overrated. Go ahead, put it as your signature again. Yes, I'm the one.
  15. After watching our starting pitching in the last couple weeks(outside of Sheets), Melvin has to be thinking about getting into the bidding for Buehrle. He is a national league type pitcher and would be perfect to rent for 4 months. I don't know if we can keep our starting staff together enough to win this thing, and even if we do win the division, can we win a playoff series with our current starting pitching? I am no longer in love with watching prospects grow, so send them Jeffress and somebody else and let's get in the playoffs.
  16. The answer is yes, and the solution is go after Buerhle. We need a # 2 type starter if we are serious about getting to the playoffs and actually doing something when we get there.
  17. I think we should concentrate our efforts on a starting pitcher. We don't need Byrnes.
  18. JS recently stated that Melvin may want a lefty, one that could pitch more than one inning. Parra? Coming off injuries it seems he is a candidate to have his inning watched. How about we let Maddux watch them?
  19. I think Weeks should play and Fielder should get the day off. He hasn't looked himself the last couple days. Graffy in the 4 hole...lol.
  20. The Merklinger video is interesting. Looks like his legs are connected to his knees with rubber bands. Not exactly a big strike zone by the umpire. What is that?
  21. I'm going to guess it will be Jarrod Parker.
  22. I also notice Braun likes to keep himself neat. He has Nomaresque movements after each pitch. He even adjusts his equipment as he is running. Obviously likes to look good. How many great ones aren't a little bit cocky. Not saying he is great or will be, but he has the mannerisms.
  23. Holmberg? Isn't he like 25 in low A? I pick Aguilar. I love to see his lines. The guy must throw absolute scary heat.
  24. Gantner had 137 steals in 17 seasons, including 6 years of double digit steals. Hardly a burner, but as I said, he could steal a base. I never said anything about his speed.
