  1. I'm venturing down to the Braves series, as well. We're driving, though -- only about a 12 hour drive from Milwaukee, and probably cheaper than flying and renting a car. I'd imagine there will be a good number of Brewer fans in ATL that weekend. If you were in Boston last May, you can attest to how well our fanbase is starting to travel.
  2. This is a total shot in the dark, but if anybody has 1 or 2 free/unused tickets for Wednesday's Marquette/Connecticut game, I would love to get my hands on them http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. I'll buy them, trade for them, whatever. Please let me know. Thank you!
  3. I appreciate the statistical approach from rluzinski and Ennder. Those guys tend to keep things in perspective here. And DougJones43's anti-Ned Yost avatars were hilarious, too.
  4. Right -- you do have to stay in the dorms for 2 years. I have friends who live in the metro area who skirt this rule by becoming "commuter" students, but end up renting off-campus apartments. O'Donnell is now 100% male, but is 5-6 floors, I think -- not sure on that one. And, I would definitely advise him T-BONE to pick his dorm early. Abbotsford on 13th & Wisconsin has really nice 3-person rooms (I honestly don't think you could ask for nicer college dorm rooms), and it's cheaper than a 2-person room. Marquette is a great community, but sometimes I feel like, "this is it?" Don't let it turn you off because I hope you choose to join MU, but it gets stuffy here at times. And, amen on the women aspect http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. There is a rule that you have to be in the dorms for two years and no (!) girls allowed on your floor after 10:00 pm. They changed that rule -- girls are not allowed on the floor after 2:00 am, but the rule isn't strictly enforced. IMO, I think it's asinine, too, but it's pretty much the MO at Catholic universities.
  6. When are the Bucks going to move so I can watch the Badgers hockey games and all the Brewers games without the basketball games interrupting? That's hardly necessary. Tonight. Wow. -The first few minutes of the second half were surreal. Was anybody else at the game? It felt almost supernatural. LeBron is SUCH a diva (the powder thing on the road? Come on man), but I don't know how you couldn't have been in awe of that run he had. I'll never forget that. -Gotta love this David Stern led league. First, the officials eject Ilgauskas, then they look at the tape, rescind his ejection, even though he instigated the brawl, and then they eject CV. If I ever had the chance to sit courtside, I'd be ripping on the officials the entire game. Just wow. -CV was a hero tonight. His suspension will be well worth it.
  7. Just over two years, ago #1 Wisconsin and #2 Ohio State played each other. Remember Illinois in 2005? I don't recall people ripping on the Big Ten a couple of years ago. It comes down to preference -- I look at the 38-33 score and cringe. Is that bad basketball? When both teams shoot under 30%, yes, that's bad basketball and they've embarassed their conference, IMO. There are no flashy teams in the Big Ten. The ACC has Duke, UNC, and Wake; the Big East has Pitt, UConn, Louisville, and Marquette, and all of those teams are better than Michigan State and Purdue. I prefer an up-tempo, transition game, closer to what we see in the NBA, but to each their own, I suppose.
  8. GobiasIndustries, you are correct. Divisions are meaningless in the NBA -- trading within a conference is a concern. Is Kohl really dense enough to think that if the Bucks make the playoffs this year, the fans will come out in droves next year even if they are terrible? I think the Bucks FO believes that an #8 seed and 4-6 extra games is going to generate interest. Even if they sellout the BC, there will be hoardes of empty seats in the Upper Level. It's not a representation of progress because they're just going to lose CV and their 1st rounder next season anyways. Maybe I'm naive, but I read the RealGM boards everyday, and those guys seem to have a MUCH better philosophy about the current and future state of the franchise than does the FO. Hammond has two tasks: relieving the Bucks from cap hell and getting rid of Redd. Same old Bucks! and there have been more talks about moving teams. Out of the 3 major sports, the NBA will hurt the most from the economy IMO and if they don't make changes teams won't be moved...they'll contract. Agreed on the NBA hurting most from the economy. What is David Stern's infatuation with moving teams? Better to attempt to ride out the storm rather than continuing to switch cities, IMO.
  9. That is true. It's believed that Herb will not pay the luxury this offseason. Statman -- I've been reading reports that the Blazers requested both Jefferson AND Sessions. I think Hammond hung up on them.
  10. The Bucks will not be able to afford to pay the first rounder.
  11. Ugh. They have to be the worst run organization in professional sports. I hope we can get four measly playoff games out of this.
  12. It sounds like United Center North at the BC tonight. Ugh. This is one of the sloppiest games I've seen all year -- on both sides. It would be a big win with the Cavs and Nuggets coming to town this weekend.
  13. I love Big Ten hoops -- I think it's funny that we see these types of scores pop up in the B10 every once in a while. It's puzzling that the #18 team in the country would only be able to muster 33 points...at home...against Penn State. If you want a bad conference, look at the SEC. I can't see any team receiving higher than a #6 seed in the tourney -- either Tennessee, LSU, or South Carolina.
  14. Big Ten Basketball FTL. You sure that wasn't a football score? So the murderous stretch for Marquette begins Saturday afternoon: @GU, CONN, @UL, @PITT, SYR I'll say 2-3 -- @UL and @PITT are sure losses, IMO. They'll win 2/3 from the other, leaving them at 13-5, 24-7 going into the conference tournament. And just an FYI -- Dick Vitale is signing his new book on Wednesday at the Marquette union at 12 pm, before the Connecticut game.
  15. According to Brewers.com, the number is actually 157 games on TV, including the FOX and Sunday Night Games on ESPN: • April 12 vs. Cubs at 7:05 p.m. CT on ESPN • May 24 at Twins at 7:05 p.m. CT on ESPN • May 26 vs. Cardinals at 7:05 p.m. CT on ESPN • June 13 vs. White Sox at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX • June 15 at Indians at 6:05 p.m. CT on ESPN • June 20 at Tigers at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX • Sept. 5 vs. Giants at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX One of those ESPN games is probably on FSN and ESPN.
  16. I'm almost happy to hear a familiar voice. I know many of us listen to Hughes/Santo/Provus on AM 720, so we've had a dose of him the past few years. I think we can expect him to be professional enough to not "get excited" when the Cubs do something well during a Cubs-Brewers game. I'd much rather have Provus, who has a good voice and has MLB experience, rather some blowhard, lifelong Brewers fan. Let's give him a chance -- he'll be fine.
  17. Do you have any connections to Massachusetts or New England? Or were you just a Red Sox fan? Anyways, welcome to the bf.net Nation. I actually hear a lot of stories like yours -- I think it's a reason why the Brewers are actually one of the more popular MLB teams.
  18. I think that the over/under on attendance this year will be more like 2,000,000. That's way too low, IMO. They've already sold 1,000,000 tickets, and single game tickets don't go on sale until Feb. 28. Plus, the Brewers have 12 games against Chicago teams at MP. I think people do surrender larger vacations, and they, in turn, reward themselves with "small luxuries" in a bad economy. I read an article in the Milwaukee Business Journal that said the Bucks and Packers, and not the Brewers were suffering the consequences of the economic times. IMO, the festivals will suffer the most during the summer. If gas isn't $4.20 a gallon this summer, I think people may be more inclined to travel to a game, too. It's not hard to get discounted tickets, either. I say 2.8 million.
  19. Bud Selig has no business punishing Alex Rodriguez: 1.) It sets a difficultly enforced precedent. You pretty much have to release the other 103 names and issue the same punishments. 2.) His test results were probably illegally leaked. 3.) As RoCoBrewfan said, the tests were not intended to carry any punitive consequences down the road. 4.) It's not fair to the Yankees. No need in getting worked up about it, as it can't and won't happen.
  20. 85-77 Braun wins MVP.
  21. FOX gave up the rights to the LDS in return for Saturday baseball the entire year. Before 2007, FOX didn't start its Saturday coverage until the end of May; now it starts the first Saturday of the season. I guess you have to decide what you think is more important for baseball. Nodakfan, I guess you just have to consider the direction that sports on network TV is headed. The BCS has been "relegated" to ESPN in January 2011, the NBA broadcasts way fewer playoff/regular season games on network TV than they used to (remember how most of the Bucks playoff games in 2001 were on NBC?), and the NFL Network has become a force. The games are just too long. Unless the Brewers or Cubs are playing, I don't have the patience to sit through a whole baseball game, and I know many people share that feeling with me.
  22. The Steelers defensive scheme was primarily designed to protect against Arizona going downfield. We saw this many times during the broadcast -- I'll try to find a stillframe from the broadcast. Arizona torched teams downfield during two of their playoff games (Falcons, Eagles), and the Steelers had two weeks to prepare. Even the 1999 Rams couldn't adopt such a strategy -- they aren't playing NFL Blitz on N64. The World Series can't and shouldn't be as big as the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is the perfect beast -- a single game to decide the championship of the most popular sporting league in the world, during the middle of winter on a Sunday night, at a neutral site. FWIW, I do think the World Series gives hometown fans the warm fuzzies more than a Super Bowl could. Suggestions? Move up the start time by a half hour, and get the games off of FOX.
  23. I picked up tickets for the Cavs, Lakers, and Magic games. Those should be doozies. Time to shut down Bogut. It'll signal the end of any playoff hopes, and hopefully we can show RJ the door before the deadline.
  24. If they can win @Villanova, chances are they will start 13-0, with a pair of home games against Seton Hall and St. John's. I think Marquette is due for a letdown in the near future, but if the stars align, they could be flirting with the #1-2 ranking in mid-late February.
  25. What exactly are you fuzzy on? I've taken a couple of classes with this type of material, and I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
