Off to a great start! Also, Chris Carpenter, son, etc. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30288007/chicago-white-sox-manager-tony-la-russa-charged-dui-stemming-february-arrest-court-docs-show
I think/hope that these options are being declined because Stearns believes that players like Gyorko will be available for less than the option value, not because it means that the Brewers don't have $3.5M to spend on a corner IF. This is the same reason he used for declining Thames' option last year and we ended up with Justin Smoak.
That's pretty overpriced for someone who is declining and going to miss quite a few games/be a 4th outfielder. If he wants to come back for $3 million or something fine, otherwise he can go somewhere else or retire.
Why would Stearns even think about such a deal? It still leaves two gaping holes on offense and his biggest trade chip gone for two prospects. Campusano is not ready to help right away. He has played exactly on game above high A level. He is at least a 2022/2023 ready player. Patino is a highly thought of pitcher who really stunk this year because he too has almost no experience above A+. Why does it matter that they're prospects? The goal is to get the best talent available whether you think that talent is MLB ready or a couple years away. I don't want a GM in a small market that's turning down deals because the players may not be MLB ready. No team should operate like that, especially a small market team.
Yes I do as their viewership is far more wider than that of Fox Sports. Fox Sports is a regional thing and you can only have subscribers that live in that region while the other services are global and can be seen by more audiences and thus the team(s) can ask for more and get more than what they could get from Fox Sports. I don't see the Brewers getting a huge raise if they go with Fox Sports at best you are looking at a $10m increase. I just don't see Fox Sports giving the Brewers much more than that as the viewership in the region the Brewers are in is very limited. You are basically limited to the state of Wisconsin and that is it. The advertising dollars coming in is just not enough for Fox Sports to give the Brewers a huge bump in a deal. Yeah, going to YouTube TV or whatever is still just going to be local viewership. It's not like the Brewers sign a contract with YouTube TV and Brewers games are going to be broadcast in Denver.
Can we get the StatCast broadcast for the rest of this game and send Jessica Mendoza and Rick Sutcliffe somewhere else? Like literally anywhere else? Except my living room because I would still be able to hear them but anywhere else is fine.
So they bunt runners over, then what? Because we're known for our prowess of getting hits with RISP or getting a runner in from 3rd with less than 2 outs?
If I was a starting pitcher I would get thrown out every time after I'm taken out even if I have no particular reason to be angry. Just say whatever you want, give the ump the finger, take your 3 game suspension from MLB and be back and ready to pitch on the 5th day.
Gotta love it when the guy you just signed for $200 million swings at a 57 foot pitch and casually looks over his shoulder to see if the catcher blocked it but doesn't bother running to 1st anyways because at this point, why bother? We're all just in The Truman Show except it's just some alien race that is watching us.
