I just have a bad feeling about this game...seems like one of those games where the opposing pitcher comes in and drops his ERA 3 runs after facing the Brewers.

 

I did the math - he'd have to throw 27 innings tonight without an earned run to get his ERA down to 4.43. I think we're safe!

I don't know...I still have a feeling Eaton throws a 27-inning shutout and the Brewers lose on a walkoff wild pitch by Gabe Gross, because Ned already used each relief pitcher for only one inning.

I don't care what the lineup is, as long as Mench and Estrada never bat next to each other again. Two pitches, two outs most of the time. TAKE A FEW!

although I don't agree with it, I can understand why Mench and Estrada are always swinging at first pitches.

 

Theoretically, a pitcher wants to get ahead of a hitter. Thus, they are more likely to throw a strike with the first pitch to a batter, or at least come close. Now, granted, not every pitcher does this with resounding success, which is where Mench and Estrada are in the wrong. They're swinging at first pitches like it's batting practice, sometimes without regard to where said first pitch is located. Thus, popups and weak grounders result.

 

But notice that sometimes, they are right on it and hit it hard (either a hit or an out). They played their percentages correctly on those at bats, that the pitcher did, indeed, throw a good first pitch strike.

 

Again, I'm not condoning it. I, too, agree that they need to take some pitches and work the count a little bit at least. But I can at least sort of see their reasoning (if it is, in fact, their reasoning) for swinging at the first pitch.

I like that lineup lots, similar to the one that scored 12 runs against the Mets on Saturday.

 

After a loss like last night happens, I usually try the next day to find something that makes me feel better about the Brewers, and at 4pm I finally found it... Bad Chad Moeller is called up by the Reds, making me feel so much better that I am a Brewer fan, and not a Redleg fan.

Does anyone else's eyes get totally stuck on Craig Counsell when they look at the lineups? Its like one of those things where they list items and you have to pick the one that doesn't belong.

I don't necessarily like the 3 lefties in a row at the bottom of the lineup...I understand loading them up every now and again, but it's just too easy for the opposing manager to bring in a lefty in tough spots (or make us use up 2-3 bench players in one inning of a close game).

 

Especially when the 3 lefties at the bottom don't exactly hit lefties well, if at all (aside from Gwynn maybe, as he hasn't had many chances...)

Come on!! Counsell had a SCORCHING double last night and then used his blazing speed to try to steal 3rd.

Counsell and Graffy have done well defensively and have had moments at the plate. They are what they are. Solid veterans to play a good 3B, try to move runners and provide the occasional bit hit...oh and keep the position warm until Braun is ready.

Doesn't bother me too much because I know the other option is even worse than Counsell so far this year. I can't wait to see Braun in that lineup though.

Based on what? Recent performance? Gwynn has out hit and out fielded Gross as of late. Yost is smart going with the hot hand. Until Gwynn starts to suck it up people need to give him some credit.

 

I only wish Yost would bat him lead-off when he starts. Just move every one down a spot except Estrada down two to 7. Still a good lineup tonight.

Fact that this park is a hitters park and with one swing of the bat Gross can change the game in the Brewers favor. Gwynn isn't going to do that for you and defense in this small park is over rates. If this game was at Washington or Colorado I would agree with you.
