Trevon was absolutely pathetic last night. Also Nankavil has no business getting any minutes right now, just freaking start Leuer. Their is no way a team should come from 14 behind to win at the Kohl Center and I would blame a lot of that on Hughes. He was taking crappy shots, he was turning the ball over, and he was playing some pretty cruddy defense, Westbrook lit him up in the 2nd half.

 

A very disheartening loss.

Another thing that ticks me off is a team once again refusing to give a foul up by three in the final seconds. I've never figured out why teams don't do this... Should be a no-brainer.

No question that Minnesota had the best athletes on the floor last night.

No kidding. The only part of the game I saw on T.V. was overtime, and their offense attempting to get a shot off was almost laughable. Leuer's shot could've been blocked by three different guys.

 

Looking at the rest of their schedule, they should probably be able to finish 11-7 in conference, which would probably be around 4th, maybe 3rd. They're lucky they only play Michigan State and Ohio State once this year.

I've been wondering what motivates Bo to start Keaton Nankivil but have him only play the first 2-4 minutes of each half. Is Leuer only effective (when he's effective) off the bench? Is Keaton a tip-off specialist? Again, I'm not strong on basketball strategy at all, but that seems like an odd pattern of use.

Ah, geez, you're right: Big Dave Mader = J Cheezy Jason Chappell = Keaton Nankivil...in terms of how they were/are used, at least.

Nankivil shows flashes that he's going to be decent. I wonder if it's a confidence thing. Jarmusz hasn't really shown much either.

Jason Chappell didn't really bring anything to the table offensively. At least Nankivil has a decent mid-range shot for a bigger guy and looks like he can shoot free throws, he just doesn't seem to having many scoring opportunities inside because he hardly plays. Bo must not trust many of his big guys, I know they're young but when JaJuan Johnson was grabbing every offense rebound on Sunday, a lot of times Krabbenhoft and Landry were the tallest players out there for Wisconsin.

Odd scene in the Marquette game yesterday. Providence's Jeff Xavier leaves the game after getting his eye swollen after banging into the elbow of a Marquette player (in my opinion a good no-call, although it could have been a foul, but definitely nothing intentional or shady - just seemed like a freaky bad luck type of thing). On the same possession, Providence is lining up for a free throw and Xavier's brother casually comes on to the court to confront the ref. Nothing bad happens but you can tell that everybody is stunned and nobody really made a move to stop him until he was right in front of the ref. The video for it should be on this link:

Anyways, nice comeback win for Marquette to go to 5-0 in the Big East. This team plays really hard. Hopefully they can sustain it and finish stong this year, because they can be a really dangerous team that can be a real pain in the butt to play.

great comeback for MU last night. i was shocked when that guy from the stands made it all the way into the lane to talk to the refs. it was funny when he made the "timeout" signal. like he could call a timeout...

Weird day. But a pretty amazing day for basketball yesterday. There were so many great games and matchups. I was overwhelmed.

 

UWM won too - keeping pace for a potential 1 or 2 seed in the Horizon by beating Cleveland State. The two Milwaukee teams winning helped me forget a little bit about the Kohl Center debacle.

This thread from a few weeks ago touched a bit on Badger basketball ticket availability. And maybe since they're now 3-3 in the conference, tickets will become a bit easier to find.

Anyone else think the Badgers are the Green Bay Packers of college basketball? Enough talent to win games, close in every single game....yet find a way to lose it. A bad break, fluke play, bad officiating and we lose a close game. Tonight it was the non-call foul/technical foul on Wisconsin that swung the game (though we still could have won in OT), last week against Minn it's a miraculous comeback. Just seems like we just saw this entire season unfold in the NFL.

Their defense is pretty porous this year. They allow too much penetration and that opens everything up. I think the on the ball defense from the guards is really bad this year - and they miss Stiemsma and Butch down low.

there are always plenty available on the street if you are willing to not have tickets in hand.

Hopefully UW turns it around quickly because after a couple more losses they will find themselves on the tournament bubble. The win at VT does look pretty good now that VT beat Wake, but that is literally there only good win so far this year and Iowa is a very bad loss. Iowa is just not very good.

These statistics don't go back to Bennett's days, but I don't think Bennett's teams could be that much better than last year's team.

 

This shows a significant drop from last year, especially painful when you consider the last two games were lost in overtime.
