Bill Hall for Lastings Milledge and Joe Smith

Posted
Send down Spurling. I'd be fine with an outfield rotation of Jenkins, Hart, Mench, Gwynn, Milledge and Gross. Imo, we're going to need pen help if for nothing else then to provide insurance in case T-bow falls apart or Wise fades in the second half which has happened before. Smith would be a great option as a set up man and would save me money on all the mylanta I buy for when T-bow toes the rubber.

i wouldn't do that...

i don't want milledge...and i'm not trading my mvp from last year for a reliever...

relievers only pitch a couple of inningsmax...i don't think you trade a star player who you control for years for a reliever...

i would so much rather promote yo to the pen than trade bill hall for a reliever..

For real though, pogo, I really like Milledge as a prospect still and Smith could become our closer in '08 if Francisco hits the highway.

Milledge reminds me of the other "can't miss" players of late. You know, those star players such as Wilson Betemit, Alex Escobar, Brandon Phillips, Josh Hamilton, Luis Terrero, Corey Patterson. These players were all suppoed to put up superstar numbers and revolutionize the game. Only Hamilton has a chance now, although Phillips seems above average (what, 3 organizations later?)

Milledge has excess baggage as well - no thanks! Folks seem to fall in love with prominent minor league/prospect names they've seen a lot. Milledge has done almost nothing at the major league level to justify that cost. Don't we already have the same sort of 5-tool guy in Hart?

I still think Milledge is going to be a star, but I wouldn't trade an established one that the Brewers have under their control for the next four years for him. I mean, if you could trade Kevin Mench and Claudio Vargas or some spare parts deal for him, I'd be all over it.

Somthing to stir the coffee pot: Is Bill Hall really an established star?

I'm a little biased though I thought we should have traded him last year when his stock was high.

Would the Mets want to do this deal? When Alou is healthy, their outfield is stacked, so unless he plays second, there is no where to put him. I also think the Mets would keep any decent bullpen arms giving that there are still some questions about their rotation.

I was thinking second base, but kind of hard to push this trade when their second baseman is doing better than Hall right now. Smith would be hard to get from them as well.

This would be a terrible deal. Milledge would pollute the clubhouse and Joe Smith has had two good months in the majors. Let Billy play and get out of his slump, he will be just fine.

I was under the impression that the "baggage" Milledge carries comes from befroe he was drafted.

Since being in professional baseball has he really been a problem? I know the Mets called him in for lyrics from a rap song.

I think the thing I like about Millegde is that he has the potential to be a lead-off hitter the Brewers lack.

Milledge would allow the Brewers to drop Weeks in the order.

Having Milledge at the top of the order with Weeks hitting somewhere in the order more comfortable in the future is tempting.

Last year the Mets put a "Know your place, Rook" note in Milledge's locker after all his showboating. Melvin has worked hard to draft/sign quality guys, so I think we'd be losing a lot by trading one of our best clubhouse guys and team players for the "me first" Milledge.

Plus I'd imagine a player like Milledge loves the spotlight and would bolt Milwaukee to a big market as soon as possible.

The Milledge issues didn't stop when he got to the bigs - if anything it appears that they increased. Most NY-area fans that I know would just as soon he be gone for a big, "fooled you" return. No thanks.

i'm so sick of so many people wanting to trade for milledge. he has not done anything and everyone thinks he's so great. he seems like a clunhouse cancer and someone the new york media builds up but will never be much of anything. i wouldn't trade bill hall for him if i had a gun to my head.

An OPS of .828 in AAA at age 21 isn't bad.

What are your benchmarks for a promising prospect?

i guess a agree he's a decent prospect, but he would not be held in as high esteem if he wasn't in a a new york farm system. i've seen probably close to a dozen threads in this forum about wanting to trade for him. you'd think he was the best thing since the wheel. plus he seems like a goon, what with his big rap album and perceived attitude problems. plus bill hall has a couple bad weeks and he's worthless, everyone gets in a slump, last year we wanted to make him king of milwaukee
