Wow... Anyone else seriously considering getting a Craig C jersey? Sure he's hot now, so that would be awesome, but 10 years down the road and wearing a Counsell shirt is going to give you some big street cred.

Craig was out.

I guess that call makes up for the umpire shenanagans in Atlanta in September 2007. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Oh come on Trowe, you know what they mean. Only 4 of the earned runs can really be placed on Manny, and the three-run home-run was simply a HOF batter doing what he does.
He never has to face that HOF batter with 2 men on if he doesn't walk a guy with 2 outs and nobody on base.

Yep, I think that's where the issue was in this situation. Not necessarily the HR. It's how he got setup for that.

Pitchers are going to walk guys, the hit afterwards was a grounder which is a good result that found a hole and then he made a good pitch to Jones who hit it out. That is not an inning where Parra looked terrible, he just gave up 3 runs.

Ugh...I still believe that the Atlanta series in 2007 cost this team a playoff spot. Still peeves me to this day.

I think Cox was more ticked off about having to run all that way to complain about that call than anything. Would've been nice to get Counsell in, but I'm not going to get too worked up over it since he probably shouldn't have been there to begin with.

10 baserunners and 2 HR's in 5 and 2/3 innings and and 5 er's.. Maybe in Coors field that is fine.. But yes compared to his last start this was a major improvement but considering that was the worse start by any starter this year it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

My personal rule. Anytime your ERA is over 2 runs higher than Suppan you probably shouldn't be starting.

Oh man, that Yost post-game interview was awesome. I wonder if it's still around somewhere.

Well think what you will, I'm sure Macha looks at this start as a positive one for Parra and he's the one that counts.

Pretty impressed that Macha is leaving in Stetter here. They have 5 right handed hitters in a row so it is showing some confidence in him being more than a LOOGY.

I don't disagree, but I don't see a silver lining here either. Manny walked a left handed batter, who he should be going right after, with 2 outs and nobody on base.

I'm a little confused by Macha there. I figured he was leaving Stetter in to keep Chipper batting from the right side, but now he lifts him before Chipper? Why leave him in to face one righty then? It worked out ok, but just a little strange.

I agree that walking a batter is a bad thing and walking a lefty is even worse, don't have a big issue with that comment. I'm just trying to establish that the results aren't what defines a good or bad outing. A season is too random to get a good judge of talent from just the results, over a single start the results are just not going to tell you the story.

This start by Parra was one of his better on the season, even if the result was 5 ER. His control was much better, he was using fewer pitches per at bats and other than Jones they weren't making very good contact overall.

I don't disagree with you here, it sounds like we're close to the same page, but with Manny, I guess I look at the context of what everyone's saying (control issues, lack of confidence in his stuff) and see him walking a guy with 2 out and nobody on, and I just see continuations of the same problems that have plagued him all year.

I don't blame him at all for that 2nd homer by Chipper, that was just silly that that swing resulted in a homerun. I just don't like that Chipper even ended up batting in that inning.

If you accept Manny for what he is this season, this was a decent start for him. That said, it doesn't change the fact that it appears he still has the same obstacles to overcome before he can be considered anything more than a back of the rotation guy. He's young, so he has time to improve. He was just fortunate that the Crew finally goth their HR mojo back.
