If I had to guess, maybe he wanted to save Gerut as a left-handed pinch hit bat just in case the game went into extras? Kendall seemed like an odd choice to pinch run, but after using Cat earlier in the game I think Gerut and Kendall may have been the only guys left on the bench and he wanted to save the better hitter for a possible pinch hit appearance...I could be wrong, though.

Kendall was only put in because of Counsell being shaken up. He took one off the toe, and he's had sore knees apparently.

Easily one of my favorite games of 2009, right there with the offensive explosion game that Monday in Cleveland and the Memorial Day Duel between Gallardo and Carpenter.

Why does this place have to be the Giants' Bastille? There is no collection of World Series trophies in the Miller Park lobby. The word "Brewers" does not make strong men weep. Why so much anguish - predictable anguish - every time?

I was there last night, and got to sit in the club level for the first time ever, which was a cool experience. What an awesome game and an awesome win last night. That 9th inning was about as loud as I've ever heard Miller Park.

Keep in mind that not only did Counsell foul one off his toe, but he also got roughed up on that double play turn last night. Uke speculated that Counsell might be pinch run for because of that. Apparently, his ankle was sore.

 

As for Gerut not running, it is almost assuredly because Macha wanted a lefty available to hit. SF only had right-handers left in the pen.

I too was at the game, it was looking bleak a couple of different times, but was an entertaining game with an excellent result.

The reason Kendall was able to score easily was that the Giants had the outfield back to try and cut off a game-tying double.
