Victorino Gets Beer Dumped On Him in Outfield

Monday night, luckily in a meaningless part of the game, Shane Victorino caught a sacrifice fly and as he was making the catch a fan doused him with a full cup of beer. Police arrested a guy that was taunting Victorino. It happens that it was not him and police are looking for the actual culprit. With Bartman and now this guy, Cubs fans just get a bad rap. Judging by the looks of this guy though, he looks like they typical Cubs fan that is not there for the baseball - looks like one of the rich college kids that know nothing of the game.

That could actually be construed as assault. I hope they find the guy, book him, and charge him.

Seems like a typical Cubs fan though. The worst is he wasted a good beer...oh wait, it was probably Old Style or something. Still, it's the principle of the thing.

I don't feel sorry for the "wrong" guy who got tossed...watching the video, it's clear he was laughing it up. Typical boorish Wrigley fans.

That's pretty bad, I know we have some bad Brewer fans, but the bad fan % seems much higher their.

Wish I could find Video of Braun getting a beer thrown at him just before he threw out a would be tagged run.

They get a bad rap because they usually deserve it. After going to the last series of the year versus the Cubs last year, I don't think I ever want to go to another Cubs game again. I happened to go to the game we lost and I have never seen a bigger group of jerks. Seriously. Every strike they got up and taunted Brewers fans. It was 3 hours of hell. I can't imagine being that brash at an opponent's stadiums unless I was looking for a beatdown.

Do you think Yankees fans would get in the faces of Sox fans on every pitch at Fenway, or vice versa at Yankee Stadium? Sure, there's some fun ribbing but outright taunting for an entire game... and not just from one guy... our whole section was littered with these guys... just pure classlessness.

I expect nothing less from the most ridiculous fanbase in sports.... where else could your team not win squat in over 100 years and you think you have the right to taunt other teams' fans like you're a perennial dynasty?

Did someone tag up or anything on that play? I realize it was meaningless, but I wish they would have called fan interference and have non of the runners advance.

Well, on one hand Old Style is probably the only beer that I would dump out....not on a player though. Says a lot about the sensibilities and tastes of Cubs fans that they are basically the only market (outside of 71 year old Wisconsin men) that still drink that swill.

You forgot to finish your sentence. It should read:

I hope they find the guy, book him, charge him, and convict him.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I realize that not all Cubs fans are like this. However, there is only one ballpark in the major leagues where beer gets dumped on players (on many occasions) and garbage gets thrown on the field. It is only news this time because it was a perfect shot. Usually the beer throwers miss badly and nothing comes of it.

It makes sense because the place is a urine soaked garbage dump. It's the most historic sewer in all of America. Actually, most sewers serve a purpose at least.

Why MLB has never made the Cubs do something about this is beyond me. Any time an outfielder goes near the wall he is going to get something thrown at him. MLB should have banned the Cubs from selling the first 2 rows a long time ago.

When in Milwaukee in mid July, I sat next to a guy from Fresno who was on a tour of midwest stadiums with his mom. The previous day they'd been to both Chicago stadiums. He came back grumbling, because he was in line and the moment the inning started, they stopped selling beer as per MLB rules. He said that in Wrigley they didn't start "last call" until that point in the game, and proceeded to sell beer for another inning.

Remember, when Bill Spiers was attacked in Milwaukee, it was a fan from Chicago! When the coaches were attacked on the first base line, it was in Chicago. I know it's a broad generalization, but IDIOTS!

I usually don't like most of the yahoo sports reporters for a few reasons including being anti-Wisconsin and other small market teams, but I had to chuckle and nod in agreement when Stay classy St Lou...err Chicago was written. Even though us biased brewer fans have known this for awhile, its nice to see the cubs fans' classiness in a public light.

Depends what policy he is on. Day games they can serve until end of hte 7th (like MP) and night games it's the 6th.

Think you might be wrong on this....I believe that for day games they sell through the 8th inning, and night games are the standard 7th. I sat in the bleachers for a day game last summer and remember this vividly, as I was pleasantly surprised at getting 1 more inning of service.

With the propensity of fans in Chicago to take public transportation or walk to Wrigley, there's less of a "drive home safely" element so I can somewhat understand the policy.

Anyway, this probably explains why Fresno Guy was upset.

Great photo in that article of the jerk that actually threw the beer pointing security to the fall guy. I hate frat boys.

I like that writer's idea. They should ban beer for a series just to send a message to the idiots that if they can't handle their beer while at the park, they should stay home.

The Cubs couldn't afford to not sell beer for a game, let alone a series. It's like hundres of thousands of dollars in revenue, and it pays for at least 3 Soriano strike outs, and 4 hopping catches.

I doubt the income taken in by the Beer sales is all that giant. They make their money on merchandise and tv/radio contracts. Sports Service has to take their cut before the Cubs even see a dime. Even if 20,000 beers were sold at the game, they won't see nearly as many dollars going directly into the Cubbie coffers.

Over at Bleedcubbieblue the reaction is just equally full of hate for that guy, and it seems that (from posts at least) the faithful are getting tired of these kinds of people.

The fan was actually from South Beloit.
