How to manage a 5-5 game in the bottom of the 12th, by Jim Leyland.

1) Has your closer thrown 2 innings already? That's fine... he threw 3 innings last on 8/5/08. Leave him out there -- he'll be fine.

2) Do you have a RHB out-machine batting against your closer? Good -- now IBB him, so you can set up the matchup with the speedy LHB that follows him.

3) You haven't won the game yet? Crap, I'm out of ideas. But at least Chip Caray will still call this season your greatest managerial job ever!

I'm with Too Live on this one...Man I hate the Twins.
Well, this game had a bit of a "NCAA play-in game" vibe, in that either team could easily wind up as NYY fodder. Not that that's a particular comfort.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Yea, yea...the Dome great...Blah, blah. Whatever. Can't wait till the go outside, freeze and get eaten by bugs...and lose that stupid Dome-advantage.

Oh, you'll like a conversation we had here at home during the just-completed game:

One of the TBS guys (paraphrased): well, you get this dome full of fans, it gets warm in here and the ball just soars.

hawing: Yeah, wait until next year.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Not sure how valid this is. Young is an out machine, but Casilla is an even bigger out machine and there were two more out machines coming up (Tolbert and Punto) and Rodney hasn't had a huge platoon split the past four years.

I sure do hate the Twins, but that game is exactly why I love baseball. For all of the excitement we saw in that dome last night, tonight's game trumped it.

I don't think you could ask for a better game. I was pulling for the Tigers because of their story this year, but I can't begrudge the Twins. I really hope they can get past the damn Yankees, though.

I really think MLB should make these one game shootouts permanent each year...maybe add an extra Wild Card "winner" and have them do a one game playoff like this for the final spot.

I was really pulling for the Twins...but maybe it's because the Brett Favre mess doesn't bother me.

I was pulling for the Tigers, but maybe that's because I feel bad for the city of Detroit and the fact that I really hate Minnesota. It doesn't matter much, because either one of them are fodder for the Yankees machine.
