Halladay to Phils, Lee to M's in 3-Way Trade

The Phillies, Blue Jays and Mariners have agreed to a trade that will send Roy Halladay to Philadelphia and Cliff Lee to the Mariners, according to an SI.com report.
The exact terms of the deal have not yet been reported, although the Blue Jays were reportedly willing to pay some of Halladay's salary in the right trade. Lee and Halladay are both in the last year of their contracts, with Lee owed $9 million and Halladay's deal calling for $15.75 million in 2010. The Phillies are currently working on an extension with Halladay that would keep him in Philadelphia long term. He went 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA over 32 starts in 2009, spanning a league-high 239 innings. Dec. 14 - 3:59 pm et

I feel bad for the Blue Jays fans. I hope Toronto is getting some top prospects.

Yea, playing in the same division as the two ultra rich teams in baseball has to be deflating

If the Phillies give up only Lee and just get Halladay that seems like a lateral move at best. Lee is younger, cheaper and left-handed. I would think that the Blue Jays should get a nice haul of prospects from both teams.

Are the Mariners really a Cliff Lee away from competing in the divisinon? Seems like Jack Z is jumping the gun on the rebuild just a little. It'll be interesting to see if he also is able to bring in Jason Bay.

I don't think so. Great defense, they stole Figgins from their division rival and now Lackey is going to the Red Sox. That division is wide open right now and if they get Lee, I have to think that Seattle will be right in the mix for the division, if not the favorite.

Who does Seattle have that would make this deal work?

I don't see them dealing Adam Jones, but who knows? Would be a major coup for Toronto to get a cheap All Star centerfielder for one year of Halladay.

Now this is what I call adding a difference maker. Very exciting for Phils fans, and way to go Jack Z. Toronto should file for transfer to another division. NY and the Sawx should have their own division together, Balt, TB, and Tor in a separate division.

They traded Jones last year for Bedard.

They traded Jones two years ago for Bedard. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Sorry. I knew that.

I'm just stunned. Is Seattle that full of prospects or did Philly throw a pitcher Toronto's way too?

Outside of Hernendez, I'm not sure who could be in this deal.

Adam Jones was traded two years ago for Eric Bedard, he just played in the all star game w/ Baltimore last year. Off the top of my head they have Morrow, Aumont, Michael Saunders, Dustin Ackley and Josh Fields who are all pretty good prospects.

If that is the case (Aumont is going to Toronto plus others) then JP Riccardi was smart for not trading him at the deadline. Too bad he got fired in the process. Aumont looked really good in the WBC pitching for Canada as a 19 year old. I would think Toronto would move him back to being a starter, though because I believe he was moved to the pen by Jack.
