Betancourt is terrible. It would be nice if he was at least good at defense, but he's not.

Losing Cain sucks. Gomez can at least play defense, but his bat back-to-back with the aforementioned shortstop is going to be some black hole.

That said, it's worth it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Could we call Boston and see what they want for Mike Cameron? Their outfield is rather full.

I'd probably try to get Cameron and Scutaro from them, see what it would take.

Betancourt/Councell at short and Gomez/Dickerson in CF should produce about what we had at the same positions last year so offensively the team should be about the same. Cain really wasn't around all the long but I will miss him the most. Maybe Doug heard my comparisons to Bill Hall and decided to sell quickly on him.

My thoughts exactly. I will miss Cain, but really he doesn't seem like a slam dunk prospect to me. Really to me, not giving up both Rogers and Jeffress makes this trade a big win.

Please be true, please be true, please be true.

I'd hate to lose Cain and Escobar, but not nearly as much as I'd love to have Greinke.

You could do worse than Betancourt as SS
Not too much worse. His OBP is terrible.
It's even worse than Escobar and Gomez. This would be redeemable with a decent glove at shortstop, but this article tells you that based on the numbers "Bentancourt is one of the worst shortstops in baseball." He did hit 16 HRs last year.

If Beltre bails, I wonder if Boston would bite on a McGehee for Ellsbury deal. I'd kick in Parra or Gomez as well.

Youkilis is playing 3B with AGon at 1B and Ortiz at DH. Boston has no use for McGehee.

At this point, McGehee isn't really disposable either. If this is true, Melvin is clearly going for it in 2011, but he also has Greinke and Marcum for 2012. The Brewers would want one of Casey or Gamel to be playing 1B in 2012.

I'm so excited about this I forgot about the Gonzalez trade. Back to the drawing board.

"Source tells me #Brewers have traded SS Alcides Escobar, CF Lorenzo Cain, and RHP Jeremy Jeffress for RHP Zack Greinke, SS Betancourt + $2M."
Wow, if this is true I think it's a pretty good deal for the Brewers. We get a bona fide (young) Ace and still get to keep most of top young pitching. I dare say we will be contenders in 2011. I really hope this deal is true.

The deal sounds a little too good to be true to me. I know Greinke is effectively forcing a trade, but I would find it hard to believe this is the best package the Royals can get, unless they're more focused on getting specific pieces, like a SS and CF, in return.

The rumor last week was that they were looking for middle infield and CF prospects in return for Greinke.

I remember there was a report that the Royals wanted "up-the-middle talent". I guess Doug Melvin was listening (allegedly).
