pretty sure that's the point of this website...

 

Count me in the slightly disappointed crowd. I didn't have two favorites lined up but I wanted them to go high ceiling and was willing to risk the potential low reward risk that comes with those guys sometimes.

To be an arm-chair QB? I wasn't aware that is why this was created.

 

Anyway, guy who can run it up there at 98, has great command, and 3 very good pitches is a guy who has a high ceiling.

Doesn't it seem likely that his velocity was down last game because it's the end of the season and he's gassed? If I'm judging his velocity, I go by the bulk of the reports, and they seem to say he sits at 93-95 and touches 98. He doesn't walk people. I just don't get "low cieling."

 

Jed Bradley looks like a nice grab at 15.

i'm overall happy. i wanted arms that could be up in 2 years. We have had trouble with high school pitchers too, so going high ceiling always doesn't work too. Atleast these are 2 picks we should be able to get in the system quickly.

MLB.com rated Taylor Jungmann the 7th best player in the draft and Jed

Bradley as the 8th best player. Getting them at 12 and 15 is some nice

value!

Question (since I'm far from knowing this)...what is the difference between our first two picks? Are they similar players?

 

Again, as someone who loves minor league baseball, but really has no clue about scouting, etc I would have hoped for one 'safe' pick and one 'high ceiling' type of guy. Did we draft two 'safe' type of guys? Just asking since it looks like that, but I really have no clue besides reading scouting reports, etc.

YES! Bradley has saved the draft for me. No need to ask I like him so much more than Jungmann it is on page 17-20 somewhere

Well, at least those who are unhappy with it will be just as happy as the rest of us if they're wrong, so "eating crow," may be a bit rough.

Forgot about Bradley he would have been my third choice at 15 after Gray and Barnes. His breaking ball supposedly needs a lot of work. On the plus side we didn't have any lefties of note, and if Bradley does develop a good breaking ball his ceiling might be higher than Jungmann.

I think I heard earlier today that Bradley gave up an obscenely low number of HRs in his college career. Don't have the stats to prove it though...

 

Let's hope that Jungmann is gassed after a long season.

I despise the Bradley selection. He gave up more than twice as many runs as Jungman this year. Considering HR's are down almost 50%, Bradley sucked, and has mediocre stuff. The Brewers are clueless about pitching.

Also look at this way, Seid missed on Arnett and Covey was awful in college so can the guy keep missing on 1st rounder after 1st rounder?? At some point you would think he would hit on one of these guys.

Deep Leagues had him at No. 9 to the Cubs.

 

Jonathan Mayo had him at No. 8 to the Indians.

 

Perfect Game USA had him at No. 4 to the Orioles.

 

Baseball America had him at No. 8 to the Indians.

I hope they're somewhat aggressive with these guys. I think both Klaw and Piliere said Jungmann could start in AA next year. Would be nice to have them on track to be rotation options in 2013.

I'm not all that happy here. Was very disappointed to see both Lindor and Baez gone. I would have rather seen Gray and Guerrieri but oh well. They now obviously need either a bat or a HS arm with their second pick. Please no reach!

Why are people skeptical of pre draft velocity reports? Well that answer is pretty simple...

 

Arnett, Adams, Frederickson are college pitchers who I never saw approach their scouting report velocity in person. Anundsen threw harder in high school than he ever had for Brewers, Heckathorn mysteriously working in the upper 80s during a start last month and has never worked anywhere near where he did in college (Hook said he intentionally holding back working on location)...

 

If he has a dead arm that's not a good thing... the college baseball season is long compared to HS, but isn't much compared to the every 5th day grind of professional baseball.

 

Like I said, he wasn't impressive the one time I saw him pitch, that's all.

 

I don't know anything about Bradley.

Okay, I have been to Omaha the past 11 years...now this year I HAVE to finally root for a Texas Longhorn if they get there!? That is and could be tough! But, I'd do just about anything for The Crew!!

The way I split them up by ceiling is. Jungmann is the same guy he was walking in as a freshman. Texas Gatorade player of the year, Freshman All-American, and etc. but he never really took it to the next level. This years ERA I think has more to do with the bats than stuff. When a guy walks in and pitches the way he did as a freshman you'd like to see him continue to become more dominate but he sayed at the same level IMO. Why would he all of a sudden take it to the next level now and be that electric Ace or #2. It is possible but he hasn't shown the progress to me.

 

Bradley was a no one light up the guns at a cool 86 in high school. Got to GT because he had really good off speed stuff to mix with that slow fastball. Now he is hitting 94 and has command of all 3 pitches (hope they give him a fourth to work on). He can throw all three anywhere in the count and from reports I have read they all can be out pitches. With him (about to turn 21) you can actually see his progression and him evolve over his time at GT.

 

So overall I think Bradley is still growing as a pitcher making his ceiling higher but has a lower floor because he had not been lights out. Jungmann has been lights out in his career giving him a really high ceiling but has not shown much progression giving him a lower ceiling. That is how I seperate them. I think Jungmann will be fine, I love the righty/lefty combo, now just hope they pan out. Said news is our system has gotten no younger so hope these guys get signed now and get working. Hate to see a whole rotation of 22 year olds dominating or struggling in MWL again.
