I was thinking this would be a long season when the record was 2-8. Starting pitching was iffy, the bullpen was very iffy, the offense was MIA. Since then the Brewers are 12-3 and now a half game out of first place! All that has occurred despite some players struggling mightily at the plate (Weeks, Gonzalez, Braun, most pinch hitters). The pitching has vastly improved and the offense has gotten the job done. Yuni and Seggy can't keep their current tears going, but that Greinke trade is looking like an absolute steal. When Ramirez comes back, Ramirez gets 3B and Yuni gets 1B. The offense gets even better. When Hart returns to 1B, Yuni might just take Week's spot if he doesn't get out of his funk by then. You have to assume that Braun, who hasn't hit with his normal average and yet has contributed nicely with his walks and homers, will kick it into gear and bring that average up to where he usually hangs out. That's all to say that, though the offense has gotten the job done, it will get better. The pitching has been decent, and if it remains like this, the Brewers will be in contention all season long. It will be a much more fun season than I was thinking after a 2-8 start. Go Brewers!

The haters had quite a valid point if you review the 2011 season. I will never forget the ball up the middle in the NLCS that he didn't even go for (And Weeks almost got to) when it was on Yuni's side of 2nd.

 

I also couldn't stand, how he never saw a first pitch he didn't like. He swung routinely on the first pitch and it routinely ended in a 6-4-3 double play, pop-up out to the first baseman or some other lamely hit ball.

 

I am happy for him and glad he has found his swing. And as long as he never see's a lick at short, keeps swingning a good bat and continues to be useful at 1B / 2B / 3B ... well then keep on keeping on, Yuni

I noticed on the replays of Gomez's and Yuni's homers, that when they got to the dugout, Segura took their helmets off. Does he only do that on home runs? It he just being funny, or is that some sort of home-run-specific routine, like the low-5's some of them give each other? Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. It'd be an interesting interview question for Segura.

I notice you don't even mention that Yuni hit .333/.333/.542 against the Cardinals in that series with 5 RBI. He wasn't the reason they lost. The pitching was awful. Yuni had lots of big hits in the 2nd half of that season too.

I also remember Hairston's error in Game 5 as the big blow in the loss. That and the Crew doesn't win Game 4 without Yuni and Randy Wolf, which is funny given the level of disdain for both of them throughout the years. Baseball really is a funny game.

It seems like a waste for me. You're down two runs, you're giving up an out. Just to turn around and take him out? Why not use a PH and see if you can get a big inning? Or tie it up with a long ball?

 

I don't get the "wasting a PH". That's what they are there for....there aren't that many games you run out of players because of PH...it's usually defensive subs or using two PH in one at bat that does this IMO.

I was just going on the premise that the manager is definitely calling for a bunt. Given that, I don't see a problem with having the pitcher do it, provided the manager feels he can.

You are correct, I didn't reference that specific series. Not sure if I should look into the 50+ series played through out the year either. In the end, he was not very good that year. (Not sure how 1 series trumps a whole year of futility) ... Like I said, I am glad he is doing good this year even though I thought the signing was laughable when we did it. (Glad I am not a GM)
